u r gonna die like the romanovs
Whatever, loser.
Lovely colourised photo of the Romanov family.
What a well-preserved interior. I think the those are even vitrolite glass tiles in the bathroom.
What's the hoping that someone is going to restore and preserve this rather than destroy it in a "renovation"?
Rather nice King George V and Queen Mary family portrait, apparently from 1923. I do like the Princess Royalâs hat.

Royal Doulton art deco tableware, 1934.
Bullockâs Wilshire Department Store (now the Southwestern Law School) is easily one of Los Angelesâ finest remaing Art Deco buildings. What makes it so special is that both the exterior And the interior are well preserved. It has so much going on, one post simply can not handle all of it. This post alone is dedicated to just SOME of the light fixtures in there. Since it is an operating law school, you canât just walk in there. You have to wait for an annual tour & hope you score a ticket before it (quickly) sells out.
A channel called John Elevator. The owner films lifts and collects films of lifts from various decades in different countries. Very interesting if you like vintage design.
Hey! Just a tip: donât call flight attendants stewardesses. My parents are both pilots and itâs a huge no no in the airline world. Thatâs what they were called back when they had no power and were abused more.
Okay. Fair enough. I was using a female-specific term as part of the point I was trying to make, but I will accept that that was an error.
the modern feminist movement is a failure because instead of saying âthe work that women are already doing is valuable and should been appreciated by societyâ they said âsociety already values the work done by men therefore to be valuable women need to do the same kind of workâ
since this is gaining a small bit of traction i just want to clarify: i have nothing against women in traditionally male careers. in fact, i myself am in a traditionally male field (architecture)! and iâm glad that those doors have been opened because that was an area women were shut out of for so long. but women shouldnât have to be in these fields to be considered valuable by society. weâre valuable by default.
Exactly.
A woman can be a doctor, but she can also be a nurse. A woman can be an airline pilot, but she can also be a stewardess. A woman can be the boss, but she can also be the boss's secretary. A woman can have both children and a career but she can also be a full time mother and housewife. A woman should be allowed to decide for herself what she wants to do and if what she *chooses* is to do a traditionally female job, her choice should be respected rather than mocked.

I donât care if you send hate, but please do it coherently.
Thought on Fashion.
I was just watching several episodes of a tv music and talk show from 1996 and it dawned on me that if you watched a show from the 50s in the 70s, youâd notice changes in fashion, or if you watched a show from the 70s in the 90s, youâd notice changes in fashion. But if you watch a show from the 90s in 2020, everyoneâs wearing the same clothes and hairstyles that people still wear today. There wasnât a single thing on this twenty four year old show that looked old fashioned or outdated, except any technology that cropped up.
Itâs been over twenty years since we had any real changes in daily wear. Why is that?

The UK has officially told âArticle 13âł to fuck off because theyâre leaving the EU.
Brits, your memes are safe now!
Now *this* is what Brexit is about. Getting rid of stupid laws and regulations that no one actually wanted.
Next step. Can we please start getting in some of the delicious American foodstuffs that the EU wouldnât let us have?

Closing Credits:Â The Battle To Save 1930S Odeon Cinemas
Though they went up fast, Deutschâs cinemas were by no means slapdash. For many of the towns and cities around the Midlands and along the south coast, where most were built, they were the most exciting and modern pieces of architecture in the area.
This was Odeon at its zenith and its signature styles became well known. Faience, a material that remained unblemished by the smoke and smog of industrial towns, was employed in tandem with rounded corners to complete a streamlined finish. If this couldnât be done â if the council objected to the plans, for example â then brick was used in an art deco fashion (used for Odeon buildings in York and Chester, for example). A vertical feature, sometimes used for advertising, was another trademark element.
I didnât know that the art deco look of so many Odeon Cinemas was an intentional differentiator. This article (and accompanying photos by Philip Butler) is a delight.Â
So...,
A local restaurant is holding a 1920s themed New Yearâs party. Would absolutely love to go to that, but it costs ÂŁ55 and Iâve already spent far too much this Christmas.
