So it’s 11pm, I got home 1/2 hr ago after spending a full day at Comic-Con and I remember I didn’t check on Cheesecake and the finch app today, so I open it up and this is what pops up! 😂 i dunno why I find it funny, maybe because I only have an hour left in the day and I have to prep for tomorrow 🤷‍♀️

Anyway, yes finch I DID find some time to relax today thank you! It was while I was sitting on the floor across from the bathroom eating lunch for 15 minutes but yes it was still relaxing, thanks for reminding me lol 😉

Vampire of Color: Certain Dark Things by Silvia Moreno-Garcia, she did a different take on vampires with lots of different species of creatures that fall under the vampire umbrella, i really liked it ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 stars

Disabled MC or disability justice: Constantine Capers: The Pennington Perplexity by Natalie Brianne, this actually should have gone on the last update, but i honestly forgot that short term memory loss, ala 50 first dates, counts as a disability and the MMC Byron Constantine does have that, makes for an interesting circumstance ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 stars

Mermaids: Soul of the Deep by Natasha Bowen, finally got a chance to listen to this sequel to Skin of the Sea, it's a a great duology ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 stars

microhistory: A Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawking, i honestly don't know if it really counts, but it has "history" in the title and it's about 1 subject, spacetime, just because spacetime itself is the biggest thing that exists doesn't mean this book isn't a microhistory, right? right? if @batmanisagatewaydrug vetos this, then i've got another book i just finished i can use for this square next update, so yea, let me know ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 stars

literary fiction: Open Water by Caleb Azumah Nelson, once i got used to the 2nd person pov, i got into it ⭐️⭐️⭐️ stars

2x older than you: Winnie-the-Pooh by A. A. Milne, classic re-read, i love that silly old bear ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ stars

cultural nonfic: Finding My Way by Malala Yousafzai, hearing about Malala's college experiences and adult life while still advocating for girls education is inspiring ⭐️⭐️⭐️.75 stars

1. Best book you’ve read so far in 2016 2026 - They Called Us Enemy by George Takei, Justin Eisinger, Steven Scott, about George Takei's time spent in Japanese internment camps when he was a child, which is CRAZY, i'm hoping to buy this at Comic-Con next month

2. Best sequel you've read so far in 2016 2026. - Royal Crown by Meg Cabot, the last book in the Notebooks of a Middle School Princess series, i was able to get it from the library and finally finish this cute series

3. New release you haven't read yet, but want to. - Adversary to the Villain by Hannah Nicole Maehrer, Evie and Trystan are so much fun!

4. Most anticipated release for the second half of the year. - Hollywood, Ending by John Green, i watched one of his secret livestreams a few years ago? where he read a part of this book while he was working on it, and i've been waiting for this ever since

5. Biggest disappointment. - A Beautifully Foolish Endeavor by Hank Green, honestly it wasn't even a big disappointment, i really liked the first book and hoped this one would be just as good but it took a long time for me to get into it, this is an expectations problem, not a book problem, it’s still a really good book

6. Biggest surprise. - From Lukov With Love by Mariana Zapata, i dnf'd the only other Mariana Zapata book i tried so i wasn't sure i'd like this one but i didn't expect to love it as much as i do! it was soo good!

7. Favourite new author. (Debut or new to you) - Nora Sakavic, i hope the Sunshine Court becomes available at my library soon

8. Newest fictional crush. - still don't have one this year, sorry

9. Newest favourite character. - can i say Murderbot? because i found it 2nd half of last year, so it's still newer than last year's pick Princess Olivia of Genovia, i love Murderbot so much i actually watched the show and bought all the books, insert Marge Simpson i just think it’s neat meme here

10. Book that made you cry. - i don't read a lot of sad books so none yet so far

11. Book that made you happy. - Thumbelina by Hans Christian Anderson, my husband found an old little golden book and record version -with record!- from the 1970's in the garage, it's so cute and i love it so much

12. Most beautiful book you've bought so far this year (or received) - i got the paperback version of A Monsoon Rising by Thea Guanzon, love the black/white/red cover art and sprayed edges

13. What books do you need to read by the end of the year? - my physical tbr! i wanna read or unhaul them.

10 books this month woot woot! 🥳🎉 i got 2 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ reads so it’s been a great reading month for me! i also read 2 books in my 2026 tbr and more books for some different StoryGraph challenges, so even though i’m not reading a huge amount of books, i’m reading a variety of different books and it feels good to try different things 👍

we’re halfway through the year, so i might post some updates on the bingo boards and tbr lists, and hopefully i made some progress! 🤞

sorry for the late wrap-up but at least i'm still reading! 8 books woot woot 🎉 the books are shorter and taking longer to read, but i’m still taking a little bit of time to read most days and that's a good thing for me because reading is my me time 🥰
