                    “ for a man betrothed, you certainly don’t act like one, ” the lady’s maid comments with a huff, offering julietta’s cousin a damp cloth to wipe away the grime from his latest scuffle. she can’t help but frown despite knowing she really has no right to. gianni is NOT her betrothed, NOR is he the lancelot her past self had pined over. she doesn’t pine anymore; elaine knows by now that nothing good comes from herself and love. still, a lingering part of her still believes in it, and especially feels for rhona, as surely the girl must care for him. “ i don’t understand it. you have SO MUCH, a handsome face, a good family, a lovely woman waiting to marry you, and here you are. fighting as if you have nothing to lose ! ”

She does her best not to flinch at the man’s attempt atnicety. Margot may have been a product of the Isle’s faulty education systems,but she isn’t dumb.                   maybe that was true, but carlos knew many other things that people could do that were still cruel without killing him. it only took a little bit of imagination and the reminder that those here hadn’t exactly been the most welcoming to him in the first place. he couldn’t figure out why this guy he hardly knew was being so nice. at least ben and jane and the like had gotten to know him, but right then…

                    “ WHY NOT? ” the question very nearly throws him, and most certainly would have had he not spent the last three years trekking around auradon. certainly his home country was nothing like the isle, but there was poverty even here, people that the crown prince had met who did not know kindness without tags attached. a charming smile cracks on his lips, one he has honed to be especially disarming as his eyes leave carlos and instead skim the rest of the special gathering.
