Croatian vintage postcard

Pictured here is HMS Terror stuck in the ice. The image was taken from the Arctic reports and notebook of Admiral Sir George Back during his Arctic expedition in 1836. It was commissioned by Henry Back, the admiral’s brother and vicar of the church in c. 1860.

Moonlit Seascape with Ship, by Gevorg Bashinjaghian (1857 - 1925)

The ship has been identified as the Portuguese trading vessel 'Brilliante', owned by a merchant in (Portuguese-run) Macau. The initials on the pennant identify the merchant as Miguel Alves Sousa, who clearly commissioned the service for personal use, quite possibly on board the ship itself.
