personality: Davina is a hardass woman, most times viewed as snob but she just doesnât know how to put her hair down. All she knew while growing up was that she only had herself, look after her family and it left her little time to relax. Sheâs not mean but doesnât know the word âsubtleâ, hence sometimes she comes across apathetic but given her caretaker nature, Davina means well and tries to be helpful, although she might complain about it all the while. Sheâs more on the intellectual side with a love for books, fed by her grandmother who opened Bookend, and she can talk for hours about whatever book-related subject.
BACKGROUND / BIO
Davina was the unexpected child to Elaine and Robert Davis; although a surprise, they didnât love her any less (same as baby number two that came two years later), however, since the marriage worked all day, Davina -and later- her younger sister were mostly raised by her grandmother and got to spent more time at her bookshop than her own home. Sheâd go there after school, do her homework and then read whatever book her grandmother put on her hands until she was old enough to pick her own reading and also helped her little sister. Â
In the same way her parents loved her but rarely got to spend a lot of time with her, Davina loved them but preferred otherâs company than theirs and during her teenage years it was her taking her care of the family house, her younger brother and her grandmother, whose health started getting worse Â
Fast forward to graduation, Davina decided not to stay in Merrock; her grandmother was gone and she didnât want to keep working at the bookstore, her sister wasnât little and didnât need her anymore, her parents didnât mind if she was there or not and so she took off to New York to study and as she promised her grandmother, Davina worked in books. It wasnât an easy landing and she jumped through other positions and houses but she finally made it and she loved it.
Her visits to her hometown were sporadic and everytime it fell on her to take care of things at home, especially when her father passed when she was twenty-five, and all the while feeling like an outsider in her own family and town. Â
Her city bubble was blown when she had to come back to Merrock to look after her mom who got sick, the bookstore was barely looked after and Davina knew she had to step in again, quitting her job as editor since her boss didnât want her to work long distance and she took over the bookshop that her parents had almost forgotten about and is slowly putting it back in shape while taking care of her mother and trying to get used to the small town air again.
