second year. music major. the girl in everyone's mind and conversations— and lara's hasn't cared if they were good or bad because of no one being brave enough to say it where anyone that knows her could hear or to her face. one of the school's legacy students, years after her older sister graduated, lara's impact on the school was felt only a few weeks after her arrival to the school during her first year, where she has since made dream academy her own playground and student for something to mess with when bored— or protect herself from. not many people outside of her friends and shiloh know the reason why lara now acts the way she does, but what she does know is she's not letting it happen to her again. but now that she's in her second year, lara has now gotten bored of messing around, or sleeping with, in her words, 'different people in the same boring fonts, and nothing shocks these idiots anymore' —until she sees sage boudreaux in the dean's office with manon and immediately sees an opportunity for her best game yet but also has some reservations because sage is the younger sister of the only person who helped and took care of her after the most awful night of her life.

final year. music major. wherever there's trouble, manon's usually not far behind, watching it all go down, and no one can actually tell if she's the cause or the reason behind it or if she's just there to see what'll happen next. manon is also the only one in the dream academy's history who sought after her to attend their school, and she's had her fair share of the manipulative games and fun lara and some of their friends play and hasn't done her own in a long time for the same reasons lara has now become bored of— the other is because she's been locked into a back and forth with friend— and secret obsession— sophia laforteza and believed it was going to continue that way. she had seen shiloh once or twice from afar outside of school and thought nothing of her, but then she finally got a chance to see her up close and in person one day outside dani's dance class with sophia, where she witnessed sophia immediately tense up and learned from dani, after much pestering, that several have tried to ask shiloh out, but she either rejects them or outright says she's uninterested. seeing how quickly sophia tenses whenever shiloh's name brought up or when seen, manon becomes intrigued enough for an idea for a bet of her own.

final year. theater major. one of the school's top students. the golden girl of dream academy and also its pride and joy. there have been plenty of positive things to be said about sophia laforteza due to her reputation as one of the warmest, most positive, and best influences on all students, new and old. when it comes to sophia, her good girl reputation is well earned and deserved; only a few know of her more ruthless and spiteful side. sophia doesn't go to great lengths to cover it up either or stop people from knowing because she knows not many will believe it or could ever see her like that. sophia and manon have had their own personal back-and-forth game since the moment manon came to the school because of their shared mutual obsession with each other. she has also known shiloh for years, and shiloh's the only person in sophia's academic school career who has effectively beaten and surpassed her— she doesn't know if she wants to destroy her, put shiloh in her place, or if she wants her. so imagine sophia's surprise when she sees her with daniela outside of her friends' dance class and learns that the girl has transferred to dream academy and immediately agrees to a bet with manon about shiloh.

third year. dance major. daniela and yoonchae, and sometimes megan, are probably the only 'normal' ones in the friend group and don't see the point of playing with people's social lives like it's a game. while yoonchae outright refuses to do or even support what lara, manon, sophia, and sometimes megan do, daniela willingly used to be a part of it, but since she personally got to witness the aftermath of someone's fall, she hasn't participated in any bets or even picked out the next person to see who could handle it. daniela has known shiloh for years since they are part of the same dance studio and considers the girl a close friend and has seen firsthand the pressure she's under. when she learned from shiloh and yoonchae that she'll be transferring, dani knew she had to keep the girl far away from her other friends after realizing manon's interest and the subtle way sophia tenses up whenever shiloh's mentioned and has definitely clocked lara as a new target but doesn't know it's her friend's baby sister.

second year. dance major. honestly, megan's more amused by it all in a way that basically boils down to, 'it's only funny and amusing because it's not happening to me.' as far as megan's concerned, it's all harmless, and nobody has been seriously hurt over it, and none of the people she genuinely knows and cares for have been targeted, so why would megan try to interrupt it? megan knows that sometimes things can go too far, and whenever that happens, she actually does voice out her concern about it and tells lara or sophia when she has her moments that they're doing too much and pulls back from it. megan and tamara have had an intense rivalry since they came to dream academy, and megan absolutely loves provoking the other girl just to get a reaction from her— and she may or may not harbor a small crush on tamara but is afraid to admit it. it was actually megan who tried to get lara to leave the situation with eunchae alone since the girl had absolutely no idea what was happening and immediately went to yoonchae about it,

first year. music major. either quietly observing-- or judging-- yoonchae can't but notice how everything or everyone is when no one's paying attention due to people misjudging her introverted nature as something to be dismissed or somehow seeing her as an easy target before learning very quickly just how lethal her words can be. yoonchae doesn't have to do any kind of the games everyone in the school somehow plays or do anything really to let other students know she's simply not one to mess with, and if you do attempt to try it with her and yoonchae doesn't come back with a response, it's mostly because she doesn't see you as worthy enough for a comeback— if sophia or lara, however, hears about it, then consider your social reputation and academic career to come to an end. yoonchae has known sage and shiloh for a few years since their parents know and live in the same neighborhood as one another and has subtly warned lara to leave sage alone when noticing the way lara has started looking at the other girl whenever she appears. has intervened several times whenever she hears of lara's plans and even stopped talking to lara the rest of the summer after the incident with eunchae.

final year. major in dance with a minor in music. the ADULT adult and the oldest boudreaux child, so her parents always demand perfection, and shiloh gives it to them— the perfect, obedient eldest daughter who makes her parents proud with high academic scores, being on the dean's list, getting solos, and the first violin chair. whatever that needs to be done— shiloh does it. and the pressure has started to take a toll on her. shiloh has no choice and only does any of it because her parents will turn their high standards and expectations onto sage, and she will not let it happen and would rather her sister continue to thrive without restrictions. knows lara because lara and her ex gf used to frequent her former college before the incident where shiloh was the only one to help and took care of lara that night. shiloh and sophia have known each other for years, as they attended private high school together, and she's the only person who has actually bested her but keeps a wide berth from both her and manon, with whom she has had several run-ins in and outside of school since the girl first saw her with daniela outside of dance class. has known daniela since they were younger because they have attended the same dance studio.

second year. theater major. laya has been best friends with tamara and sage since they attended the same daycare together, and when their parents saw how inseparable the three little girls were, they didn't want to separate them from each other. laya has always been the quiet, observant one between her two extroverted friends and the friend group in general, so she sees everything without meaning to, and because of her being quiet, no one really notices when she's around, so she knows a lot more than everyone thinks. since she's an only child, laya views sage and shiloh as her sisters and even goes to shiloh for advice dealing with homework and has listened to complaints over the years from sage about how cold her older sister is, but laya always told her that there's probably more to it. was almost caught in one of lara and her friends' games but outmaneuvered them, which impressed lara immensely, and has had little to no trouble with any of the popular rich kid crowd or anyone lara hangs out with since.

TAMARA SMART ● tamarasmart ● watertribe

second year. theater major. overprotective of her friends and loud whenever she's excited or just in general. tamara is widely known for being the best at whatever she chooses to do— whether it's on the softball field or on the stage in theater class, no matter what, she will give 1000% because that's just how she is. has crossed paths with lara and her friend group in and out of school but mainly has butted heads— or constantly antagonized —with megan since the moment they stepped foot into dream academy and on the team, but even then tamara pays them no mind. due to her practically being friends and friendly with everyone, tamara hears lots of things— like mumblings and whispers about lara having her eye on one of the new transfers, and she has since kept a closer eye on sage, telling her friend to just be careful around certain people but hasn't outright said lara's name...yet, but she hasn't said anything to their friends because she hopes it's nothing and is hesitant to tell shiloh about any of it as well because she knows shiloh would get involved to protect her sister and them if needed.

SHIN YUNA ● shinyuna ● yunaisangry

third year. dance major. yuna turns head wherever she goes and very well knows she does and has consistently used it to her advantage to get herself and/or her friends out of any situations— or into them should things call for it— that required a certain type and level of charisma—and a really good pouting face— that yuna had unlocked when she was just a child, bad for her family because she tries to get herself out of trouble using it, but good for her. yuna's considered one of the legacy students that attend dream academy due to every member of her family, including her older sister shin ryujin, who's attending the school for her final year. so it's no surprise to anyone that she's never been on the receiving end of any games or people trying to take advantage of her or whatever it is the other rich kids do when they're too bored because of her sister being shin ryujin— so yuna is essentially untouchable, and by extension, her friends are as well once they know she's with them. however, some have tried to test things and have failed catastrophically.

HONG EUNCHAE ● eunchae_ ● notchae

first year. dance major. eunchae's the youngest of the group and basically uses the 'im baby' card every chance she gets with a pout that can— and has— beats yuna's. has a bit of a dry sense of humor and is known for constantly humbling people without realizing it— eunchae knows very well when she does it. yoonchae and her family had been friends long before the girls were born and only wanted her to attend dream academy instead of any other college. during the summer before school, eunchae almost became collateral damage in one of the student's schemes until yoonchae intervened with help from tamara and has since stuck mostly beside tamara and their friend group since. eunchae has no idea that it was lara who was behind it all because she got a 'little upset' at being rejected because the person was more interested in talking to eunchae.

it really is. I've had the same done to me and that shit is lowkey so frustrating because in shiloh's mind with ryujin she's giving her the space she asked for and yoonchae was in the heat of the moment with anger, and she's realized now her anger is misdirected so now it's towards missy but because of her taking the day to calm down, she formed thoughts coherently because their relationship would have gone a little bit sideways because of the kneejerk reaction of being angry coming from yoonchae towards shiloh.

yeah missy knew exactly what she was doing when she took care of everything because that woman always have something up both her funk ass bun and her sleeves and she threw it out when both shiloh and the girls were making it know what they wanted and it was a clear power move and also reminded shiloh that 'ay i still have control'.

devon and manon's cousin. everyone swears he's the normal one in the group when he's very much not. views devon more as his little sister than a cousin due to them practically being raised together when he and his mother lived with their grandparents when they were raising devon. an established actor who can and will mention that devon is a cinematographer, so he. kelvin at one point did have a close relationship with devon's father, but after seeing how he treated devon and how hard he pushed her when she played soccer, it soured the relationship, and now he doesn't care about him at all after devon suffered her injury. actually met karina and devon's late brother when he went to korea for filming. considers devon's service dog as the group's baby and mascot.

kpop artist and actress, jennie and devon's grandparents have lived next door to each other for decades and were known for coming directly over to see baby devon after coming home from school. that's still hasn't changed, as whenever jennie came to visit her grandmother as she got older, she would go directly over to see devon. jennie knows bits and pieces of what happened with devon's mother from listening to her and devon's grandmother's conversation, but because of not hearing everything, she still believes that the woman is dead. she's very protective of devon, overprotective if you ask ayo and yunjin, and spoils devon and shows no remorse about it when someone points it out.

model, singer, and songwriter. minnie met devon after she and her family moved from thailand and she started attending the same school, and they started hanging out more once devon's father lifted his restrictions. considered to be devon's muse by everyone but devon herself because she just likes taking pictures of minnie or in devon's words, 'it's not my fault minnie is so photogenic.' she and devon did date throughout high school and some in college but mutually decided to break it off once minnie started taking her career in singing more seriously and decided to remain friends. minnie's the only one devon has confided in about her relationship with her father and how the pressure of being in soccer really affected her. is the actual baby daddy of devon's service dog, pan.

singer, songwriter, and devon's main headache (affectionately). yunjin takes being the youngest girl in the friend group very seriously and is a walking, talking chaos vortex with a very beautiful voice, and if you ask devon or anyone how she became part of the friend group, none of them have any idea but say the same thing about how she just appeared out of nowhere and has been part of the friend group ever since. yunjin's family is also wealthy, so she has met and knows karina and her friends and has talked about them in passing to her friends and has even said to devon's going to end up taking pictures of karina up close and personal one day. she and miles are the only ones who will use knowing devon to their advantage because they are more comfortable with her when it comes to taking pictures or being photographed for magazines and different photoshoots because they know her— and yunjin knows devon won't say no to her.

actor and singer. miles is the youngest of the group and is the one everyone actually dotes on and spoils; he claims to hate it but will look at everyone sideways if they treat him differently for more than two seconds. between him and yunjin is the calmer one, but when the two of them are alone, there's absolutely no telling what dumbness the two of them will get into, and it happened— and still happens— when they were in school. it got to the point where they were almost separated in music class because they kept talking in class, but the teacher saw that they were more productive when making music and musical activities. a very gifted musician but was convinced by ayo and devon to try out for an audition for a film— the film went on to become an award-winning hit with people pointing out his performance, and it boosted both his career in music and in acting. has managed to convince his management and team to let devon be the one who photographs him during most of his photoshoots and goes to her when he needs advice on how to take better pictures for his social medias.

i can empathize that sodani had tough decisions to make to save their families and themselves but they really couldn’t have just cc’ed her in the email and looped her in??? instead they disappeared for five years and let her spiral all for a lie??? i really want that sodanon endgame but they’re gonna have to work for it. i’m looking forward to seeing what you’re gonna make them do to get back in manon’s (and her friends’) good graces bc i’m sure it’s a lot lolololol (as they deserve!)

and as much as i love her, unfortunately i’m also looking forward to seeing the unraveling of manon now that they’re back in her life and she might have to play house with them (if i am interpreting it right). what can i say, i just love angst and pain and you do it so well

even when i was writing the part with manon's father i went 'i know i wrote this but sir-- wat do you mean listen without being mad???' his mind went straight to seeing how he could protect the families legacy and the company instead of thinking of manon cause it's kneejerk reaction not a defense but parent brain can be stupid and he was stupid dsjfnsdfkf

...oh ya'll not going to be happy at all about the next reveal in chp 3 because hgvjbknjknj but oh manon's going to put them through it for a while cause the anger was much easier to deal with when she didn't have to look at them but now that they're physically where she can see them oh that anger will surface. lara and yoonchae may talk to them but it's kind of surface level and megan does not deal with them at all. but future chapters will have a sophia and dani's pov, i plan to do sophia's for chap 4 or 5.

when shiloh unexpectedly quit the up-and-coming rock band katseye after they exploded on the scene with a critically acclaimed first album that was followed by a highly successful world tour, it left both fans and critics shocked as to why she would leave at the height of the band's success and popularity. unbeknownst to all, shiloh's contract wasn't renewed after being voted out and replaced by daniela's best friend, manon bannerman, by her band members. for the past two years shiloh has been dark on her public socials until she out of nowhere drops a teaser of her new single along with rumors of her releasing a solo album soon —right around the same time her former band will be dropping their third album. things are going to get interesting, especially when she has to start being around her ex, sophia, and the girl she left her for and was replaced in the band with, manon. fun, huh?

this deepening of shiloh’s lore…the audacity of her mother to reach out to her after all that AND demand she reply omg! and her fuckass dad too! and the way her found family abandoned her too! what the farkkkk 🫪🫩🫪🫩🫪 <- me the whole time reading the shit she had to go through. it actually partially reminds me of the broadway musical next to normal, except in that at least the parents make some sort of effort to love their alive daughter

you put both me AND shiloh through the ringer. bravo. that last part broke me. shiloh passing the age her uncle was when he died and choosing to make the same decision he did and surviving. shiloh seeing all the hate when she opened twitter and planning her exit while telling regan she was doing better. shiloh equating being left by everyone in her life to her trying to off herself because of the pain from all that abandonment, because that would mean “leaving” yoonchae and regan…OH MY GOD! painnnn. the moment with regan (and of course, everything else that’s been built up before) has made me really appreciate the position her circle of friends have in her life after everything that’s happened. and with regan, especially, being the person in the immediate aftermath of what happened, i wonder how she’s taking the reintroduction of not only katseye back in her life but also eventually finding out about (i’m just predicting here), shiloh’s parents trying to force their way back in too.

everything felt so visual and lyrical and cinematic here. thank you for writing this beautiful chapter, with how hard it was to read (as good as it was), i’m sure it was even harder to write. but you did it and it was a treat (and torture at the same time.)

even while writing i was amazed at her mother's audacity cause like ma'am YOU the problem and set the system up! i had it in my head way before that josiah's stupidity is the catalyst for a lot of shai then shiloh and sage's trauma because of what he did to his brother by dating and not saying anything about their son's back to back seizures that man really destroyed lives and then dipped dbsnsmsms

shiloh always had this weird thought that played in her mind after she read her father's journal because she fully believe that her fate was going to end up exactly like her uncles if and when she passes 21 because of her parents projection of their grief and guilt and pouring into her cause of their constantly saying 'you look like them' and was just defeated when she realized she survived but when she saw regan in that hospital and thought about yoonchae it hit her very hard that she tried to leave them and she's traumatized so badly baby girl thinks her trying to kill herself is the same as abandoning people. OH REGAN HAS PLENTY TO SAY ABOUT IT ALL!! and she's going to address it too, and there's going to be a lil confrontation in the future between her and sophia...possibly manon first but that sophia one is gonna hit hard and regan does not yet know about shiloh's parents coming back, neither does yoonchae or even sage, but that girl is going to be homicidal when she does she's very protective over both shiloh and sage.
