At some point in monsterheart, Varka commissions gemma to make azoth some binders. Azoth usually binds with bandages and is very self conscious about his chest as he does have large breasts.

In come these binders. They're made to be super comfy and flexible and discreet, so azoth can go shirtless if he wants like everyone else. A detail is that the marking on the binder is wrong, because Gemma doesn't know what his chest looks like. Varka -does- but isn't gonna give up those details. Also confirming that Azoth's markings are actually scales.

and ironically, Azoth's father would go on hunger strikes too when -he- was upset with -his- father so, he knows his son and he knows this song and dance, and he sees that Azoth gets it from him. And he knows that Azoth hates how easily his father reads him.
