October 2 - Pink Floyd’s Atom Heart Mother was released on this day in 1970.

The title track evolved from some instrumental fragments that the band had developed during rehearsals in London in early 1970. The main theme was dubbed “Theme from an Imaginary Western” by David Gilmour; later it came to be known as “The Amazing Pudding”. The Floyd continued to develop it in live performances, and by February the band entered Abbey Road to record it. Feeling that it needed something more, the band then handed the track over to Ron Geesin to add an orchestral arrangement. In July 1970, prior to a performance of the finished song on BBC Radio with John Peel, it obtained its final name from an Evening Standard headline about a woman who had been implanted with a radioisotope-powered pacemaker.
