No, seriously, if you're reading a fic for the second time, and bemoaning that there isn't a way to leave second kudos... just say that in the comment box! "Second kudos!" Even if you didn't leave a comment the first time--it's okay! You don't have to say anything else, I promise, we will still be happy to see it, because it means you read it AGAIN, and that's one thing we're always happy to know!

today another fic idea clubbed me in the back of the head and I got really really tempted to sit down and actually plan it out with any actual intention to write it. but then I wrote down the basic concept in my fic ideas file, and just those ~350 words hurt, and kept hurting for several more hours.
anyway, I've since closed the fic ideas file and am now staunchly ignoring it. it just keeps whispering.
Sometimes when checking bookmarks on my fics (or the comments/notes left on them, anyway) I see comments that make me wonder why people even bothered to pick up the fic. Like, I 100% get being a picky reader or having preferences or whatever, but, that's what tags are for? If you dislike a specific character, why read a fic where that character is tagged? If you're looking for hardcore angst, why read a fic tagged "fluff" and not "angst"?
Been hearing this is a problem again.
Don't be a dick in bookmarks, folks. And yes while I made this image, I'm giving free reign. Take it. Spread it far and wide. Because I'm hearing that some readers don't know that their bookmarks are visible.
I always see people make certain dp characters [ie: Danny's parents, val, giw] wanna get rid of phantom from danny like an exorcism
Even tho they're the same person right
But I always think of that ep where danny went through that ghost spliter, and you see Phantom and danny as two separate beings [this would've been so cool to explore btw]
Before they quickly went back lol
But what if the giw or someone actually succeeded in splitting them up. I wanna see the ramifications that would have.
Would Danny's "human form" slowly deteriorate from the injuries he sustained from the portal? Would it be instant or would it happen slowly.
Everyone thinks yay! No more halfa hes cured yippee đşuntil Danny looks more and more worn down, has phantom pains, can't sleep, nightmares, and slowly slowly his injuries start killing him and everyone starts noticing.
And then they realize danny can't live without phantom. That the people trying to save him from phantom inevitably ended up killing him again.
Also on the flip side how would this affect phantom like would he just fade away since his body technically isn't dead yet. Would he be caught up in some weird in-between đ¤
Many thoughts many thoughts
I'd also love to hear anyone else's thoughts on this
I wrote a fic along these lines a few years back! Admittedly the Fenton parents think Phantom is 'just' possessing Danny, so they split them apart and destabilize/destroy Phantom to make sure he won't be a problem anymore. Without Phantom/the ectoplasm Danny starts to die because of the portal injuries. It's on AO3 right here, if you're interested.

Welcome back! I saw you are taking story ideas so I wanted to submit two of the prompts I wrote for Phic Phight.
1) Danny's excuse when someone notices the resemblance between Fenton and Phantom and comes too close to his secret: The ghost is his dead twin who he ate in the womb. This might have more truth to it than he originally thought.
2) Long ago Clockwork had and lost a child, the young Ancient of Space. Even with his Sight of time, he could never see what became of them, only that they disappeared. Now another being that evades his Sight has crashed into his existence. Another child, and this one a boy with the stars in his eyes and the cold of space in his veins.
I hope you like either of these!
Thank you! I went with #1, but admittedly it turned out a little short.
Duplicity
Rating: Gen
Warnings: focuses on vanishing twins & the formation of ghosts, especially in connection to each other

âYou know, one thing still confuses me about ghost cores.â Danny resisted the temptation to fidget when three pairs of eyes turned to him. âOr, uh, the cores of half-ghosts, at least?â
âDo tell, Great One, and perhaps I can answer.â Frostbite turned further to face him.
âWell, um.â Dannyâs eyes darted over to his parents, briefly, before returning to Frostbite. âIsnât it kinda weird that my core is more stable than Dani and Vlad? Like, I thought Dani was just because she was a clone, so she was destabilizing, but apparently Vlad got really sick as he was developing his powers? But I was, well, fine?â He shrugged, unsure of how to put his thoughts into words.
His mother hummed thoughtfully, but didnât say anything. Neither did his dad, though he did frown.
âOf course not. Both other half-ghosts you refer to had to develop their own cores, growing them from scratch. You, on the other hand, absorbed yours from another ghost, thus stepping past the initial growing pains.â
Danny felt his heart stop. His core freeze. Thoughts grinding to a halt.
âExcuse me?â he blurted out, automatically, incredulously. âAre you telling me I killed another ghost?â
âNo, no.â Frostbite lifted his hands, voice dropping into a soothing tone. âAlthough it is not unheard of for proper ghosts to fuse together into one, this sort of core-binding is only possible with blob ghosts.â
âAnd blob ghosts arenât truly sentient, right?â Maddie hummed in thought, saving Danny the effort of trying to figure out what, exactly, Frostbite meant. âTheyâre barely more than free-floating ectoplasm, which is common here in the Ghost Zone.â
Frostbite nodded. âIndeed. A more developed ghost couldnât have been absorbed in such a manner, so there is no need to worry, Great One.â
âThatâs a relief.â Danny heaved a sigh. It still felt weird to imagine that his core wasnât originally his, that it had developed separately, but, well. At least he hadnât killed someone in the process.
âAlthough,â Frostbite suddenly started, interrupting Dannyâs thoughts. âIt is very unusual.â
âOh?â Danny felt like slapping himself. Why did he ask for more information? He regretted asking in the first place. Knowing more wasnât going to make himself feel better, was it?
But his parents would probably have asked if he hadnât. Right? Yeah, definitely.
âTypically, ghosts require some form of connection to be present to bind together. Two fully-formed ghosts can fuse over shared goals or other such traits, but such a thing isnât possible with a blob ghost. To absorb one of those, a more tangible connection is required.â
Frostbite eyed Danny, but he couldnât quite read the emotion in his eyes. âObviously the power of the Ghost Portal let you bypass the part where you werenât a ghost yourselfââ or perhaps he was dying and turning into a ghost anyway, ââbut that connection wouldâve still been necessary.â
But how. What? Who? The blob ghost mustâve come from somewhere, something, someone, but Danny couldnât imagine, couldnât thinkâ
âOh, that makes sense,â Maddie said, voice casual. âDanny absorbed his twin in the womb, so it makes sense for him to do the same thing with his twinâs ghost.â
âWhat?â Danny blurted out, turning to her in shock. âI had a twin? A twin I absorbed?!â
âWell, yes.â Maddie nodded, looking at him in confusion. âOf course, it happened fairly early on, so he wouldnât have become a real ghost. But the impression of it, the potential of a twin gained and lost, that wouldâve been enough form a blob ghost.â She turned to Frostbite. âRight?â
âRight.â Frostbite nodded back. âAnd yes, a connection like that would have worked quite well. A connection of blood and spirit, an action repeated. An echo between life and death.â
Danny shook his head. Well. Jerked his head side to side. âAre you serious? Why are you all acting like this isâthis is normal, totally expected?â
âI thought you knew, honey.â Maddie was frowning at him now, confusion deepening. âWerenât you the one who started using it as a cover?â
âWhat?â He blinked at her, then realized. Yes. Yes, he had been using that as an excuse for the resemblance between Danny Fenton and Phantom. A dead twin, a ghost which looked just like the living Danny. âI didnâtâI didnât think it was real.â
âOh.â She shot an uncertain look at Jack, then Frostbite, then turned to him. âWell. You know now?â
Danny stared at her, incredulous. Then shook his head. âYeah. Yeah, I guess I do now.â
But what the hell was he supposed to think of all this?
Hi there, hello! For the prompts, if you're still doing them: Escape, hugs, or emblem
Happy writing!
You were actually the first to send in a prompt, so yeah, I was still open for them. I went with "escape" with a hint of "hugs" (or, well, hug, singular).

âWho did you say you were, again?â Danny asked, looking down at the girl standing outside his house, looking just like he had when he was eight. Long hair in a sloppy ponytail, baggy clothes, and all.
The girl grinned up at him, clearly nervous and trying to hide it. âDani,â she said, âwith an I.â
Danny cast another skeptical eye over her. She didnât feel like a ghost, beyond the metaphorical ghost of seeing his own past, but it sure wasnât right. âItâs not time travel though, is it?â
âNo,â she admitted, slowly, drawing the word out. âI think that that mightâve been easier on both of us.â
âFigures.â Danny sighed, shook his head, then stepped aside to let her in. âSit down, this sounds like itâs gonna be a long story.â
âProbably.â She grimaced, but slipped past him. God, had he really been this small at that age? Surely not. Clearly Dani wasnât him, so he should stop comparing the two of them.
Danny followed her into the living room, where she had claimed one of the comfortable chairs. He rolled his eyes but followed her example, sitting down in a different chair. He probably shouldâve invited her up to his room, but something about that felt⌠weird. Not to mention that she was a stranger, no matter how much she reminded him of, well, himself.
Besides, his parents were down in the lab. They probably wouldnât surface for hours, if not days.
âOkay, soâŚâ Dani trailed off, then fell silent. Licked her lips. âUm. Iâm not sure what to say. Or, uh, how to say it?â
He groaned. âJust. Anything. Who are you and why do you look like me?â
âWell, thatâs easy,â she said optimistically. âThatâs because Iâm your clone!â She paused, before tacking on. âSupposed to be, anyway.â
âMyâWhat?!â Dannyâs eyes darted over her again, taking in every detail of her appearance. How, from the moment he saw her, his first thought had been himself. âWho would evenââ He felt himself pause. âNo, stupid question. Vlad, of course.â
She nodded, grimacing. âYeah. He was going to age me up further, I think to your age, but.â She gestured at herself, then the room. âI kind of ran away before he could get around to that.â
âWhy?â Danny rubbed a hand over his face. âNot that I blame you, because Iâm sure I wouldâve done the same, butâŚâ
âI⌠Spur of the moment decision, kinda.â She shrugged, eyes darting away and back again. Posture hunched. âHe was⌠I guess I was always a failure, but he pretended I wasnât. And I⌠I believed him.â
He waited for a moment for her to continue, but she stayed silent. âWell, you didnât know any better, did you?â He shrugged awkwardly. Encouraging people wasnât exactly his thing. âI canât blame you for that.â
Dani huffed, but shot him a wry smile. âThanks. Um. Anyway. I overheard him talking, or, uh, muttering? I wasnât going to stay, but then I heard my name, and, well.â She shrugged, that same wry smile on her face. âSo I stuck around, listening in. And I⌠heâŚâ
She sighed, deep and rattling, her shoulders dropping down. âHe was talking about what a failure I was, how I hadnât turned out right at all. What a shame it was that I was the best clone so far, when I was so far off of the mark.â
âWow.â
âYeah.â She snorted, shaking her head. âAt least there wasnât much space for self-delusion that he didnât really mean it.â
Danny snorted as well. âAt least it got you away from him, huh?â Away from Vlad, and right into Dannyâs hands. Well, his house, at least. Shit. What was he supposed to do now? Gaslight his parents that he had always had a little sister? He couldnât exactly let an eight-year old run loose, even ignoring the fact that she looked exactly like a younger him.
âGhost powers definitely helped.â She winked, coyly, then froze suddenly. It took Danny a moment to realize what she had heard. The metal door of the lab. In the kitchen. Uh oh.
Before he could decide what to doâget Dani away and into his room, probablyâhis mom appeared in the doorway to the kitchen. The light glinted off of the red goggles on her forehead, drawing his eye right to her furrowed brows.
âDanny, sweetheart, whoâs this?â
Danny opened his mouth, ready to deliver some sort of perfect excuse. âMy clone, apparently,â came out instead. He grimaced, but didnât refute it. Stupid mouth. One day he should learn how to think before speaking.
âYour⌠clone,â Maddie repeated, slowly, eyes moving between him and Dani. She moved further into the room, clearly taking in the same similarities that Danny had immediatelyâinstinctivelyânoticed. Jack appeared behind her, looming in the doorway, but stayed silent as Maddie moved. âSo this would beâŚâ
âDanielle,â Dani supplied quietly, when Maddie trailed off, clearly waiting for an answer. âUm. Dani with an I.â
Maddie nodded, stopping next to the couch. Still facing the chairs in which Danny and Dani were sitting. âI see. And where did you come from, Dani?â
Dani shot him an uncertain look, but Danny honestly didnât have any great excuses either. He shrugged back, but took the lead when she stayed quiet. âVladâs, apparently.â
âWho else,â Dani muttered, shoulders hunched up again. Danny wasnât sure if it was nerves, defensiveness, or something else.
âVladdie?â Jack echoed, finally coming into the room, and clearly startling Dani with his loud voice, based on the way she jerked in her chair. âThe V-man cloned Danny?â
Now how was he supposed to explain this without revealing his secret in the process? Well, here goes nothing. âUh, yeah,â he agreed, shrugging again. âHeâs been super weird pretty much since we met him during that reunion. I didnât think it was this bad, though.â He nodded towards Dani. âNo offense to you, Dani.â
âNone taken.â She offered him a shaky grin. âIt is pretty weird to clone someone without their permission. Or knowledge.â
âOr consent,â Maddie chimed in, voice dark and expression darker. âDanny, why didnât you say anything before?â
Because he couldnât really say anything without revealing he was half-ghost, or that Vlad was half-ghost, or both. âWell, he never really did anything.â Bold lie. Speed past it fast, Fenton, before she catches on. âBesides, what was I supposed to say? âVlad gives me the creepsâ? Nothing would be done.â
He shrugged loosely, trying to stamp down the fluttering in his stomachâand his core. He didnât like lying to his parents, but if he could just get through this conversation with his secret intactâŚ
âThere was nothing specific?â Maddie was still frowning, but at least she was moving to sit down on the couch now. Jack was still looming near the doorway, uncharacteristically quiet, but Danny would take what he could get and worry about the rest later. âNothing he did or said?â
âNo. Well, actuallyâŚâ He grimaced. âHe keeps calling me Daniel even if I ask him to call me Danny. But I think that thatâs just a smug âI know better than youâ thing, not a transphobic thing.â
On the other chair, Dani was now also frowning at him. What? What did he do?
âThatâs not even your name.â Maddie huffed, shaking her head, frown finally lightening. âUgh, that man.â
âWhat do you mean,â Dani finally cut in, having apparently lost her patience with waiting. âWith, um. The transphobia thing? What does that mean?â
Oh. No, of course, that made sense. Who wouldâve taught an eight year old clone about that stuff? Certainly not stuffy old Vlad.
âDanny-boy wasnât always Danny-boy!â Jack appeared out of nowhere, enthusiastically clapping a hand on Dannyâs shoulder. He startled, just barely tamping down the instinct to phase away. He hadnât even noticed his dad move further into the room, distracted by his thoughts. Sloppy. âHe used to be a girl! Or at least, we thought he was, until he told us otherwise! Right, Danny-o?â
âYeah,â he grunted, rolling his shoulder with a grimace. âI changed my name to Danny years ago, and most people donât even remember my old one, but people acting weird about calling me Danny is still a bit of a red flag.â
âOh.â Dani blinked, clearly processing. âI guess that that makes sense.â
In what way? Was Dani also trans? Did cloning copy transgender-ism? âYeah?â
âYeah.â She nodded, expression clearing up. âNow I understand why I was the most stable clone. Vlad thought something went wrong with me because I turned out female, but clearly he was messing up the other clones by forcing them to be male from birth.â
âOther clones?â he repeated. Then processed the rest. âWait. The most stable? Whatââ
âUh, yeah.â She shrugged, face falling. âThey. We⌠I guess cloning isnât as easy as Vlad thought. So weâre all somewhere along the lines of âsomewhat unstableâ to âvery unstableâ. And, um. We melt.â
âMelt.â He felt like a moron, just repeating her words. But. Well. What was he supposed to say?
Luckily his mom figured it out before him. âDanielle, sweetheart, what do you mean by melt?â
âWe, so.â She frowned, clearly weighing her words. Shot him a quick glance, though he couldnât figure out what the look in her eyes meant. âVlad used ectoplasm in the cloning process. So, um. Weâus clonesâweâre all kind of⌠half-ghost? And if we use up too much energy, one way or another, we kind of⌠melt back into ectoplasm?â
Oh. So that is what that look meant.
Also, yikes.
âWell, that makes sense,â Maddie muttered, a thoughtful frown on her face. âHumans and ghosts are biologically entirely different. There is no overlap whatsoever. Or at least, thatâs what we always assumed.â
âIt must be more possible than we thought, though,â Jack pointed out, previous enthusiasm muted again. âOtherwise she couldnât even exist, let alone be this stable.â
Maddie nodded, frown still in place. âRight. But how do we stabilize her further? We canât exactly re-alive her, not if she has been part ghost since birthâŚâ
Danny turned to shoot Dani a look, but she didnât seem overly bothered by the conversation topic. On the other hand, if she was used to Vlad, he supposed that his parents werenât that bad.
Wow, now that was a thought he hadnât had before.
âWell, we canât exactly make her less alive either, Jack.â Maddieâs dry voice cut through Dannyâs thoughts, and he snapped back to the conversation. Right. The important conversation. About half-ghosts.
âMaybe thereâs a perfect mid-point,â Jack suggested instead, while Danny tried to figure out where the conversation had gone while he wasnât paying attention. âWhere both ghost and human balance each other out?â
âBut wouldnât that still put too much strain on the body?â Maddieâs gaze had shifted to Dani, but it didnât seem like she was really looking at her. âIf her human and ghost halves are constantly battling for dominance, isnât that why sheâs unstable now? Unless balancing them somehow gets them to co-exist, which doesnât make senseâŚâ
Wait. Are they really⌠trying to help Dani? Not by making her ânormalâ, by making her fully human, but by finding some way she can exist as half-ghost?
Would that⌠also go for him? Or only for Dani because she was essentially born half-ghost?
Does it matter? He knows what a stable half-ghost looks like. If him staying quiet about his own secret makes it harder to help Dani⌠what kind of shitty brother would that make him?
âActually,â he blurted out, interrupting his parentsâ conversation and immediately drawing three pairs of eyes to him, âIâm also half-ghost?â
He licked his lips, stalling for a moment. âSo. Um. Thatâs actually why Vlad is interested in me, and tried cloning me, I guess. Because Iâve been half-ghost since the accident with the Portal.â He paused, then hesitantly tacked on, âSorry.â
âOh, honey, no.â Maddie reached out a hand, then paused when he automatically shifted away. âWeâre sorry you felt like you couldnât tell us before.â
A massive hand landed on his head. This time, Danny couldnât repress his automatic response, and he phased through the handâand the chairâbefore he could stop himself.
Grimacing, he looked up from where he had landed on the floor, meeting Jackâs startled eyes. âUm. Sorry.â
âDonât be, Danny-boy.â Jack held out a hand, and Danny cautiously took it. âMy bad for startling you.â
Danny let himself be pulled to his feet, then suddenly found himself trapped in Jackâs arms. Oh. A hug. Right. It had been⌠a while.
He let himself sag against his dad, melting in the embrace. And then stiffened. Right. Melting. Dani. Focus, Danny. Priorities.
âAnyway, so.â He cleared his throat, and waited for his dad to release him again. âSo, we can compare my stats to Daniâs and see why sheâs unstable. Right?â
âRight,â his mom agreed. She was looking at him like he might flee any moment, but. But at least she wasnât looking at him he was her dead son. Or a despicable ghost. This was just. Just normal emotions.
âSo, um.â He gestured at the kitchen door, vaguely. âLetâs. Go do that?â
âRight, right, of course.â Maddie wiped a hand past her eyes, mostly inconspicuously, then got up from her chair. âCome on, kids. Letâs go figure this out.â
Also in case anyone was wondering why I wrote "scar-to-be", she called it a scar but considering that it's been 4 days since surgery I personally think it might be a little early to call it a scar.
