𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐫𝐲 𝐡𝐚𝐬 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐮𝐩𝐨𝐧 𝐧𝐨𝐫𝐯𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐭'𝐬 𝐬𝐨𝐢𝐥, as homely as it has become in its comforts and familiarity and all of its people who welcomed her with ushered warmth, hailed her as one of its heroes, this is not her home. it feels as though it is, in all of the trials and hardships she endured walking beneath its blighted sunlight and waning stars and moon hidden beyond a shroud of unforgiving light, and it surely has become akin to a second home to her. norvrandt will always be dear to her, and she will ever feel welcome to this shard for as long as she might find breath.
but it is not her home in the same way that it is nox’s. she did not grow up beneath its skies, with its familiarly comforting winds brushing over her skin. nox knew a time where the skies were not so blinding in its otherworldly light, a time where stars danced in the skies as they danced across her cheeks. to feel moonlight once more when it had once been lost is a feeling cherry can never claim to know. she isn’t much with words, anyways. cherry slides a slice of cake across the table instead and rests her cheek in her palm, head tipping to the side. “ how does it feel ? having the shadows back. the moon. ”
In all truthfulness, she had been on cloud nine since the bright sky reduced itself to the myriad of tiny speckles, much like the freckles littering her dark cheeks. Though the comparison did not dawn on her, she was marveled nonetheless. She could not remember a time when the skies were rid of the blinding light The Flood had cursed them with, so as natural as it was to cherry to ask, the Dark Knight could seldom believe they very things she spoke of were real in the first place.
❝ I-... ❞ she began, gaze peeling away from the window only due to the sound of the plate being pushed towards her, ❝ Growing up within the Night’s Blessed, we heard tales of the night sky... How our ancestors took it as a sign of shelter, and hoped our souls would traverse it and be rid of the everlasting sunlight once we departed...- ❞ all of which she was aware Cherry had heard before, yet she still told their history with utmost pride, ❝ I thought it magical ever since i was a child. But this... It goes beyond all my expectations. ❞ she said, awestruck as she was.
❝ I’m not sure how it feels, I had never felt this way before. But it’s nice... comforting... Home. I would thank you for everyone in our tribe, but I think- I think I know better by now. ❞ She added, soon going back to a sheepish smile as she scratched the nape of her neck.

Nox’s regret and her path to become a Dark Knight.
As it is stated in her backstory, Nox did have someone she was quite close to when living within the Night’s blessed. Back then, she was still a Paladin, and her vow to protect was quite strong, especially to someone she held dear.
So, once she noticed, together with the rest of the tribe, that her friend wasn’t coming back, that hit her quite hard, as one could imagine. Not only the guilt of not speaking up, her reticence, she felt like she failed her only duty, as well as wronged someone that was only kind to her.
Her regret, paired with her resolve, made her leave the night’s blessed in search for her friend. After some time she did find them, and it was then that she initially thought that, by some miracle, the single positive vision she had was the one that prevailed.
Though it wasn’t quite like that.
Anyone that has done the Dark Knight sidequests will hopefully get this next part, and to those who didn’t and don’t want to be spoiled, your time to scroll past this post has come. So yknow, spoiler warning.
