prompto had tried calling terra when he’d heard the news of insomnia. when he couldn’t get through was when he’d been sent into a nervous frenzy. ignis had tried to assure him that terra was okay, but prompto was a mess nonetheless. when the group reached lestallum, prompto tried calling again and again and again – to no avail. everything hurt, his home was gone, terra could be out there somewhere either hurt or worse off. he was trying to be brave for the sake of his friends, but it was hard.

       it’s only when he hears terra’s voice that his heart breaks, heavy in his chest as he turns in the direction it came from. terra. the blonde wastes no time as he rushes over to him, throwing his arms around his shoulders and pulling him down to his height. ❛ terra ! ❜ he gasps out, clinging to him as if his life had depended on it. ❛ you’re – you’re okay … but. you haven’t picked up the phone ? i was worried about you. ❜

‘ is it better or worse if i tell you it sort of got trampled on by a dualhorn ?? ’ 

he laughs softly  ,  letting himself be pulled down to prompto height  ,  pulling the blonde tightly against him for a moment.  for a moment  ,  terra lets himself relax  ,  with the knowledge that  one  person he cared about was alright.  the slight ache in his chest has dissipated slightly  ,  &  he leans back for a moment  ,  hands on prompto’s shoulders now. 

‘ i’m glad you’re alright. ’ 

&  he means that  ,  leaning back enough to get a good look at prompto now  ,  sighing quietly.  his hands settle on the blonde’s shoulders gently  ,  &  terra offers a kind smile  ,  one that’s almost a little sad.  he’s tired  ,  it creeps in the moment he lets himself relax even for a moment. 

                        “… You don’t have to talk about it if you don’t want to, but I’m always here to listen to you if you do want to say what’s on your mind.” 

                        He meant those words with every fiber of his being. Terra needed to know it. He’d repeat it for Terra until he couldn’t speak a word anymore. He didn’t know what Terra was thinking about, because he just kept telling him that he was fine, but Riku only wondered more about what it was that had made Terra’s smile become soft and almost sad… 

                        Riku slowly shook his head as he looked into Terra’s eyes. “–Whether you’re fine or not, I’m always going to worry about you.  I can’t turn it off, so I’m sorry in advanced if it makes me overstep and– ” Riku blinked then lowered his gaze slightly. “…You’re right, I’m not the only one who can read people. You’re pretty good at it too.” 

                        Deciding to try and bring the light back into the situation as much as he could, Riku rose on his toes slightly and kissed Terra’s lips gently and lovingly, then rested his forehead against his. “…Whatever it is that’s bothering you, we will get through it together. Alright? Ever by your side … I promise. ”

‘ you make it sound so serious. ’ 

terra laughs quietly  ,  shaking his head again.  he hadn’t meant to get that wrapped up in his head that it would show on his face  ,  but terra had never had much luck in disguising his thoughts  ,  not when he really wanted to.  he closes his eyes for a moment  ,  smile falling completely before he speaks  ,  voice quiet. 

‘ i just....was thinking too much.  about all the time i lost from....xehanort.  like i said, it’s....not that important. ’ 

his gaze trails off towards the side  ,  looking down at the floor with a quiet sigh.  it’s not pleasant to think about  ,  that twelve years of his life had been taken in the blink of an eye.  time didn’t pass for him in that place  ,  trapped without a true sense of himself  ,  of who he really was.  it was like he never existed at all sometimes.  it was awful.
