Hello, young Briar. I’m here to answer your questions and provide you with some information.
First of all, it’s fine to try out spells other people have made. Just make sure you get spells from people you trust.
I know it’s really hard to figure out which spells are “okay” to use. Right now, you don’t have the experience to understand what effects will be caused by what actions. You also don’t know what magic actually is. So here is a quick run-down for you:
In the future, you will define magic as being either conjuration or banishment. If it does one of those two things through nonphysical means, it is witchcraft.
Don’t use your own power for everything. Learn to channel energy from nature around you (but be polite, please). This is easy to do: imagine you are a copper conduit. Sit near the energy you wish to channel. Imagine – yes, just imagine – the energy coming through the top of your head and flowing down to the ground. Try this from different sources like trees, the sun, the moon, the sky, the winds, et cetera.
Your imagination is the seat of your power. I know you think it’s something super mystical and secret, but it is your imagination. Also, ‘visualization’ just means using your imagination. Don’t over-think it.
Learn how to ground out that energy. Practice it a lot. I know you are going to do the opposite, but I have warned you.
Colors don’t matter as much as you think they do.
When casting a spell, you are either going to draw things towards your target, or send things away from your target. Usually you will want to do BOTH. So, you draw wealth to yourself, and send away poverty. Draw friends to yourself, and send away loneliness.
Just as you can channel energy from the sun, you can channel energy from abstract concepts like love, beauty, prosperity, or solitude.
Okay young Briar, I am going to give you the basics on how to cast a damn knot spell.
First of all, do not leave voids. When you send something away, draw something back to fill up that hole.
Take some thread. When you tie a knot, it traps the energies around it. Channel some energy, like from the source of pure love. Instead of letting the energy flow back in to the ground, direct it in to the string using your imagination.
Now say a command, like, “when I touch this knot, I will feel the love of the universe and all sadness will be driven away.”
Tie a knot. The spell is complete. Note that love is conjured and sadness is banished.
Here’s how to cast a candle spell:
Channel some energy that you want in your life, like money energy maybe. Pour that energy in to a candle. Say commands over it, just as you did with the thread. A command could be, “I will get $10 by next week” or “I will find a job within the next full moon” (magic often tells time by lunar or solar calendars, not by the Gregorian calendar, fyi). Since there is no knot to tie, seal the spell by saying “so mote it be.” This ‘completes’ the spell, like baking your pie in the oven. It finishes everything up.
Burn the candle to slowly release that energy and that command in to your life.
If we can do magic just by channeling energy, why use ingredients like rocks or plants? The answer is, because they’re AWESOME. Try talking to plants, by the way. You will like it.
So to use plants in a spell, we ask them to help. Take some basil or rosemary or some other herb you have at home. Breathe on them a little to wake them up, then say, “please help my spell be successful.” Keep the herbs with the knot or the old candle, or even carry the herbs with you until your spell manifests. Then say thank-you to the plants and bury them back in nature. You will notice a difference in manifestation.
Manifestation is when your spell actually works. If your spell doesn’t manifest, it doesn’t work. Sometimes manifestation is kind of hard. The trick for us is to do physical actions that back up our magical actions. This gives the magic traction, or a ‘foothold’, with the physical world. Then our magic can manifest. So if you want a friend, after you cast your friend spell, go to places where you can meet new people. Or, if you want a job, apply for some jobs.
I know what you are saying, past Briar. If we have to go make friends and apply for jobs, what is the use of magic? The use of magic is that if we have been applying to 100 jobs without success, magic will help us secure one. If we have been trying to make friends for a month with no luck, magic will help us befriend someone. Sometimes, physical action is not enough. But, magic is often made more powerful by physical action.
You will want to keep yourself protected. Learn how to cast a simple circle. You don’t need to call the elements or the watchtowers or anything like that. Point at the ground and trace a circle using your magical will (id est, imagination) and that will suffice. Do this before you cast spells. It is easy and useful and will keep small nasties away from you.
If a small nasty does come to bother you, find it, and yell at it until it leaves.
If something will not leave despite yelling, create a protective sigil, channel Mars energy in to it, and draw it on your walls with water and a paintbrush. Just google “how to make a sigil”, you will find plenty of info.
You will want to get started with spirit work right away. My advice is, don’t bother with unknown entities. You have all of known nature there before you to interact with. Talk to the plants and the animals, and the planets, and weather; you do not need mysterious ghosts and demons to occupy your time. Most of them are not worth your time, either.
