Bio:
Andromeda Zhou was born at the beginning of the 1870s. Her father was a seaman whoâd joined many other Chinese men in settling in Liverpool, before falling in love with a British woman. She grew up amidst the Victorian era, where -despite her fatherâs hard work- they could not be classified as middle class. Andromeda was one of the many children who worked in the factories, though she was thankful she didnât end up as a domestic servant, preferring working with the predicable art of textile manufacturing rather than being bossed around in some upper-class personâs house.
Just before she hit her teens, new laws began compelling children into schools, and Andromeda was thankful that her mother had taught and encouraged her to read, putting her ahead of some of the other children. Still, Andromeda struggled to see the point of schooling when she knew she was destined for a factory job.
By the turn of the century, Andromeda was rebelling against everything around her. Much of her meagre wage was spent at public houses, drinking alongside the other lower class women who were brave enough to do so in public.
It was in one of those places that she got caught up in the bloody hurricane that was Alice Rosenthal. While Andromeda doesnât exactly remember how it all happened, she has a distinct memory of Aliceâs face swimming into view as she choked to death on her own blood. The pain came next, burning through her veins. She woke up later - it could have been minutes or hours, she didnât know - with a vicious hunger swelling in her gut. A hunger that Alice was more than happy to teach her how to satisfy. Andromeda was awakened to an entirely new world, one of supernaturals and power struggles that she had been oblivious to before. And while Alice revealed little about herself, she taught Andromeda how to protect herself from hunters, but also how to indulge in everything that life had to offer. How to take wealth from those who wouldnât miss it, how to kill while going unnoticed, and opened her eyes to a whole new world of sexuality.
While Alice insisted that she should always have another identity ready to go, she couldnât entirely leave behind the heritage that had originally created her. However, she shed the name âAndromedaâ, which she had always hated, choosing to go by Andy instead. Though Alice still sometimes used her full name -Â privileges of a sire, she would say.
For the next twenty years, the pair were inseparable, Alice keeping Andy close during her long periods of languid, the younger vampire only leaving long enough to bring them someone to feast on. As naĂŻve as it was, Andy thought the two of them would continue like that forever. However, it wasnât to be. Perhaps if she knew more of Aliceâs past, she would have seen it coming: the abandonment. But the empty bed was the first sign that something had changed. Alice was gone. No note, no indication of where sheâd gone. Leaving Andy truly alone for the first time in her existence.
For a while, she tried to follow Aliceâs trail, but if there was one thing Andyâs sire had taught her it was the act of disappearing. A skill she had apparently perfected over the decades, Andy realizing that she had obviously done this before. When it sunk in that Alice really had abandoned her, the feral vampire went on a killing spree of her own, leaving a long trail of blood that lead the hunters right to her. Nearly getting killed set Andy straight, accepting that she had to use what Alice had taught her: staying discreet, under the radar of both humans and hunters.
Andy spent the next few decades discovering the world and herself, watching as the globe grew smaller in ways she never would have imagined when she was human. However, as small as it seemed compared to years previous, there was still no sign of Alice.
By this time, Andy had migrated to the Americas, making her way down through Canada and eventually over the boarder to the USA. Sticking near the coast, it was here that she witness first hand the scourge of not man but men. It was her hearing that meant she could hear the cries and pleas when no one else could, following the sounds of desperation unlike any she had heard before - and she had ignored hundreds of people begging for their lives. Two men were holding down a young woman, their intentions frighteningly clear. Without hesitation, Andy ripped their throats from their necks, later only wishing sheâd savoured the fear in their eyes a little longer. She managed to coerce the young woman into tasting her blood, healing any physical damage the men may have done, while the euphoria it brought hopefully easing some of the trauma.
This event changed Andy, though the vampire would never be able to put into words exactly how. She stopped killing women, however still drank from them as their blood was always sweeter, and kept a sharp eye out for men that made their hair on the back of her neck prickle. Sheâd follow them, sticking to the shadows until she saw them beginning to cross a line, emerging to rid the world of them. It gave her a small purpose, something to give her existence meaning.
While Andy still took from the rich, she didnât feel the same need to accrue wealth that Alice had, instead preferring to simply keep enough stashed away for a rainy day. If asked, Andy would say she was over her sire leaving her behind, but a brief look at her actions spoke otherwise. Still, sheâd convinced herself that Alice was simply someone from her past, who would play no part in her future. That was until 2024, when a pain unlike anything Andy had experienced before ripped through her. Instantly, she knew it was Alice. She was near death, dragging Andy right along with her. But it stopped just shy of that, leaving Andy on her knees and breathless. Honestlyâ it scared her. Not an emotion sheâd felt often since being turned. Not long after that night, Andy learned about Lunar Cove, a supposed safe place for supernaturals. She wasnât sure exactly what drew her to the place, but she slowly made her way there, supposing if nothing else, a few years without having to watch her back for hunters would bring a welcome reprieve. While well hidden, Andy was able to find it without much trouble, several people in the area sending her in the right direction. However, as soon as she crossed the boundary, she felt it - the sire bond, sending a ghostly shiver through her body. Alice was here.
