“Romantic love as most people understand it in patriarchal culture makes one unaware, renders one powerless and out of control. Feminist thinkers called attention to the way this notion of love served the interests of patriarchal men and women. It supported the notion that one could do anything in the name of love: beat people, restrict their movements, even kill them and call it a "crime of passion," plead, "I love her so much i had to kill her.
When men say they would kill for you, they are not necessarily doing it out of devotion, but out of dominance. They picture themselves standing tall, blade in hand, ready to attack the people who object to their woman, they dont think of themselves gashing blood on the floor, powerless, and in tears, because to them tears and anti macho rhetoric is submissive and weak. The act of devotion women should be looking for isnt if he would kill for you, but if he would heal for you, if he would forgive for you, if he would be gentle and kind for you, if he would love for you. It is easier for man to hate then it is to love from devotion.
