I sometimes think about the letter KA Applegate posted for her fans who were disappointed by the ending of her series, and while I understand simply not liking how a story ends, I really respect her reasoning.
Like you can dislike the ending, that's fine.
But her reasoning is very interesting to read. And I really enjoy the framing of the anti war message.
You don't like that one war simply led to another? Fine. Pretty soon you'll all be of voting age, and of draft age. So when someone proposes a war, remember that even the most necessary wars, even the rare wars where the lines of good and evil are clear and clean, end with a lot of people dead, a lot of people crippled, and a lot of orphans, widows and grieving parents.
K. A. Applegate, May 2001, 6 months before the start of the US-Afghanistan War.
hey. hey what the fuck.
it's a really scary and sad time in the US right now. but you guys have absolutely blown me away with your generosity - we SOLD OUT of protect trans kids stickers. that's almost $3,000 raised for transcontinental pipeline to help relocate folks from unsafe states to CO ;_;
and, since it looks like we're in it for the long fight, i ordered more stickers. if you want to make a donation and pick up a sticker at the same time 100% of proceeds go to TCP
thank you all for making this fundraiser happen, i am blown away. it's felt good to help, and not just be a bystander in all of this. it's scary and sad and i'm afraid for the future, but i also know we're in this together and it turns out we can do pretty great stuff together. stay safe, love you all đđ¤đ
in light of Recent Events, a reminder that you can buy a sticker from me and 100% of the proceeds go to helping trans folks relocate to Colorado

online communities are so strange because people slip away so easily. you can be on here for years, folding people you've never met into the fabric of your daily life, and then they disappear, leaving only ghost posts scattered across tumblr behind. or their blog stays dormant, for weeks, months, years, until you're only still following them because you remember that they love sunflowers or they were kind to you when they didn't have to be or the last thing they posted was sad and raw and you still worry about them sometimes.
and sometimes they come back when you least expect it, years later, even, and there's this sudden rush of relief like there you are, there you are, even though you barely knew each other.
there's a strange kind of love to it. i don't know you and i want to hold your hand across miles and time zones and oceans. i can still see the imprint of you in this community you left. you don't think anyone will notice or care when you're gone, but we notice and we care and we wish you well.
i hope you're all okay out there. i hope the sun is shining on your face and you are breathing deeply. i miss you.
the kind of gay representation i want from marvel is simple. i want to hear a grindr noise from buckyâs phone while he and sam are staking a place out and sam is like come ON dude
this and the stakeout is in the middle of absolutely nowhere. Bucky pulls out his phone like heâs about to swipe right on Greg-the-Henchman, mostly to fuck with Sam.
Meanwhile, Greg-the-Henchman, showing off this hot match he just made and his buddy Jake-the-Henchman, who is more up to date on the briefings, just â...Is that the winter soldier.â
and there is a single moment. before they both remember that grindr is proximity based. âOh FUCK we gotta GO!âÂ
Jake Thehenchman: Wait is it just me... or is that the winter soldier
Greg Theotherhenchman: Aw dang it, I'm being catfished?
Jake: Do a reverse google image search
Greg: ...I'm not finding it
Jake: Wait
Greg: Wait.
Jake: Is that his actual profile?!
Greg: holy shit, I got swiped on by the Actual Winter Soldier!?! The man hangs out with Captain America and he swiped on me!?!
Jake: He sure did, buddy! Congratulations.
Greg: Wow. The Winter Soldier
Jake: Yeah.
Greg: Crazy.
Jake: Yup. Hey, ask him if Sam Wilson is single for me.
Greg: I'll do it right now. Hes only 20 feet away--
Jake:
Greg:
Greg & Jake: SHIT!!!!!!
@icoulddthisallday
Okay, we got a new one, boys.
Close enough welcome back Chekov's gun.
Prev you canât bury this in your own tags
I also like the idea of showing something as a problem before itâs shown as a strength. Almost every character trait has two sides, and by showing the âbadâ side first, it sets things up to not only make sense, but to also be very satisfying.
i wish everyone following me made enough money to not feel like they were being boiled alive and had the time and energy to clean their room at their own leisure
idk what neurodivergent young adult needs to hear this but you are NOT supposed to give 100% at your job. I've gotten more promotions and raises since I started giving 40-60%, which my evil CEO uncle informed me is what bosses actually expect when they say 110%. My mental health has improved tremendously. I've spent 2 out of 5 workdays secretly writing my novel for the last 2 years and I've never been more respected and appreciated. Also--when you see glaring wasteful errors in the company's operating systems, say absolutely nothing! Embrace inefficiency. It is your friend in this capitalist hellscape.

dear everyone on tumblr who needs to host images elsewhere (e.g. to embed on ao3 etc), please give squidge a go!! it's free, it's nonprofit and it's geared towards fandom so nsfw images won't get deleted!! and please stop using imgur if you can because they blocked the uk rather than acquiesce to the fucking internet safety laws, which I can't really hold against em but it does mean all imgur pictures just show up as big purple boxes now
Squidge! Holy blast from the past, Batman. The last time I remember even looking at that site was... eons ago.
( Oh, what was I reading? The Quartz Key. Yes, it's m/m. )
Not only is Squidge still around, it's expanded and grown! It is still run by the same guy, though now it's a nonprofit with a board and everything, and while they maintain all the old squidge sites as static archives, they have a new multifandom archive using the AO3 code at squidgeworld.org. They also host podfics and fanart.
For those younguns in the crowd, back in the day erotic fanworks--especially slash--was not welcome very many places. Walter was willing to host it, and has been a haven for NSFW fanworks since 1994. The various archives and so on hosted at squidge.org were never very large, compared to lots of other archives, but they were a necessary part of the fannish ecosystem, and I'm really glad that there is now a structure in place to keep the whole system running beyond just "Walter's a great guy willing to donate lots of time and money." Walter is a great guy! but like. it's good to have other people to help out and keep things going in the long run.
NO. NO WAY. NO WAY THEY ACTUALLY PUT IN A FAKE RELATIONSHIP SCENE BETWEEN ELIOT AND HARDISON OH MY GOD

Iâm seeing a bunch of posts that make me think most USAmericans donât know about The No Surprises Act.
It was passed in 2021 (thank you Biden) and essentially states that if you donât have insurance or your insurance doesnât cover a service you need (or want) you are entitled to a Good Faith Estimate of the cost of care. (If your insurance does cover the service, you should be able to estimate the cost of care based on your deductible and co-pay.)
As a healthcare provider who does not accept any insurance, I am very careful to not violate The No Surprises Act. Why? Because for every penny more than $400 that the Good Faith Estimate was âoffâ (or if it wasnât provided), you are entitled to a refund for that amount.
Yâall. Ask for a Good Faith Estimate. Get it in writing. Compare it to what you are paying. If you are not provided an estimate or if itâs wrong by more than $400, demand a refund.
Iâm reforging this for the second time in five minutes because I needed to add that part of this is also about what your health insurance provider is required to do. Theyâre required to tell you what your out of pocket cost will be. If you contact them and they say actually they donât know but your copay is X%, you can ask them to call the provider and get the codes they plan to use to bill for your services. If the provider is in network theyâll have negotiated rates in place so the insurer will know exactly how much you can be charged for that service and then they have to tell you. No surprise huge medical bills even if you are insured.
Adding onto this. If you have a surgical procedure that involves anesthesia, the No Surprises Act also accounts here. Most anesthesia companies/providers are OON (out of network) with most, if not all insurances. If your service is performed in an in-network facility, they are REQUIRED to bill as in-network due to this law.
This alongside demanding an itemized bill for any and all hospital stays, surgeries, and procedures, including the outpatient ones.
i've noticed that there is a bit of ingrained antisemitism in some non-jewish fiddler on the roof fans and im not gonna lie it really rubs me the wrong way. like they probably don't even know they're being kinda antisemitic in this way
here's what i mean. fiddler on the roof is about (shocker) jewish tradition and change. when you see tevye who cannot accept his daughter for marrying a non-jew, do you think, "oh, he's set in his ways, he's bigoted, he's just not modern enough, his (jewish) tradition is making him blind." ? whereas every time someone in my family would see it for the first time, literally everyone said, "it's a shame, but i absolutely understand why."
i think that's the most important thing -- do you understand why a man like tevye, a jewish man whose judaism is incredibly important to him, a jewish man who lives in the pale of settlement and whose village is under constant threat of pogroms, a jewish man who is alive in this period literally 2 years after the infamous kishinev pogroms (assuming this story takes place in 1905), a jewish man whose ancestors were constantly persecuted for being jewish (ESPECIALLY in the pale), a jewish man who is so remarkably proud to be jewish despite all of this --- do you understand why this man might be rightfully upset at his daughter for breaking the tradition that he and his people have paid with their lives to keep?
you can disagree with tevye's decision all you want -- i do too -- but like. if you don't see this you need to check yourself. fiddler on the roof is not just about the breaking of tradition -- it's about the breaking of tradition that is been their only method of survival for generations because they are Jews.
Yeah that's why I absolutely hate it when people try to make a "progressive" retelling of Fiddler and have Fyedka be a woman and Chava a lesbian. It completely misses the point of the plot to paint Tevye as merely a bigot rather than an anxious father who objects to his daughter marrying a man who is *part of the oppressor class*. As a non-Jewish Russian, Fyedka is in a position of immense power over Chava and there is a long and bloody history of non-Jewish men taking Jewish women to do as they please (and in Fiddler itself it's heavily implied that another one of his daughters is assaulted by a pogrom, considering that's what historically would happen). Tevye is not a narrow-minded old man set in his ways, he's a father with very real fears about his daughter's life.
