Have you ever had a thought so profound it just shifts you entirely? Like suddenly you see your world from a totally different perspective all because of a sentence that pops into your brain? This past year, I had a revelation: "You are afraid of playing BIG. You have been avoiding the next level, because this level is safe." This hit me in the gut. I have not been playing full out to achieve my next level goals because a part of me feels truly safe in the comfort zone. Have you ever been there? Have you ever wanted some sort of goal but at the same time found yourself playing small because the level you were existing in was comfortable and familiar? The truth is many of us take "comfort" in our current reality even if we want to change it because it's what we know. Many years ago, I didn't have certainty or comfort. Everything was a big risk. Even after going to law school, I wanted to find out if I could "make it" as an artist. I wanted to become successful despite the fact so many people, including my own family, said it was too risky. Venturing out into the art and business world, I knew setting goals were important. So I decided to start small, and I set my first goal to book my first wedding photography gig. A month after moving to a new city AND starting a new business, I signed my first clients at $800. You would have thought I won the lottery. Omg! People believe in me and want to hire me as a professional photographer! When I hit my mark, I decided $1000 was my next goal. Then I hit $2000. Then $5000. Then my company was grossing 6 figures a year. But somewhere along the way I stopped caring about "achievement" of the next level. I stopped growing because I was scared of what the next level would look like. Many of us signed up for creating my own business for the "freedom" and "abundance" but we forget that big risk is what gets you there. Leaping into the unknown and taking a chance on a dream is just the first big step. Are you taking leaps?
