My theory on the Michael Jackson āLast Supperā, and what we all can learn from itā¦
Ego? Christ wannabe? Delusional? Or maybe something a bit more entrepreneurial all togetherā¦
This strange painting hung over Michael Jacksonās bed in his bedroom in Neverland. It depicts Jackson seated at the center of a large table. To his left are Walt Disney, Charlie Chaplin, Elvis Presley, and Little Richard. To his right are Albert Einstein, Thomas Edison, John F Kennedy and Abraham Lincoln.
Jacksonās place, at the center of the table, recalls images of Leonardo Da Vinciās āLast Supperā taking the place of Christ and replacing his deciples with icons of the 20th century, and has only fueled the fire for the late artistās critics to see him as nothing more than as eccentric millionaire man child who is completely out of touch with the world, and sees himself as the second coming.
But could this painting, perhaps, be more at the heart of entrepreneurialism and less to do with an eccentric artist seeing himself as God?
When I first saw the painting I thought the latter. However, it wasnt until I read Napoleon Hillās book, āThink and Grow Richā that I began to see it with a diffrent perspective.
In Hillās book, written in 1937, the author makes a bold confession, admitting that he would lay in bed having imaginary conversations with his ācommitteeā and among his imaginary committee were also Edison, Lincoln, Einstein and 6 other influential men of history.
Taking a second look now at Jacksonās painting, I see very influential men of history, as well as Michael Jacksonās personal heroes. It is known that Jackson was a fan of Napoleon Hillās book, and used visualisation as a common practice to aid in his strive for success.
I see Chaplin who was so influential in Jacksonās life, that even his brother Jermane sang the Chaplin song, āSmileā at his memorial services. He married Elvisā daughter. Admired Little Richard, designed his home Neverland, inspired by Disneyworld, and the rest of the men present would be perfect if you were the most famous man on Earth and needed to assemble a team of whoās who on your committee to engage in dialogue and seek advice
Its just a theory, but for me it is a testament to Hillās book and the power of visualization.
The book, āThink and Grow Richā while written in the 1930s, continues to dominate the lists of many of the top successful people of the world.
