It’s ‘Test Your Personal Best’ day. Two of my sons are competing… against themselves for faster finish times. Why? More about that in a sec. Swimming takes a lot of practice. Just getting to know the strokes so that you not only move through the water fast… you don’t get disqualified. Performing at a high level isn’t measured by the time you put in, but by how many times you practice. So why do we compete against ourselves? I believe it’s because we want to make progress. It’s part of human nature. If we’re not getting busy living and growing, we’re busy dying. When you measure yourself against your personal best, you have the potential to get better. You are in control. That’s called a GAIN MINDSET. When you compete against others, your’re now have a GAP MINDSET. Trying to beat someone else takes away your power because your focus is on someone else, not your full potential. Why FAILURE is inevitable. We have a super-computer mind, but we go around programming it for circumstances we don't want. The subconscious is power without direction. The mind is a specialized GPS system controlled by thoughts and emotions. Unless we program it for the coordinates we want, like a GPS, it will take us where we believe we're going.
