“See how great a love the Father has bestowed on us, that we would be called children of God; and such we are. For this reason the world does not know us, because it did not know Him.” 1 John 3:1 (NASB)
the original Greek form of the phrase “how great” is an idiom that is hard to translate, similar to “raining cats and dogs” in English. The Greek word that was translated is potapos, meaning ‘from what country, race, or tribe?’ The verse is highlighting how the love that we display as Christians, is literally a love that is not recognized by people. one that is not common to any group of person, apart from Christ. when the world is unable to recognize us for our love, that is when we know we are becoming more and more like the person of Christ. To be considered a child, a brethren of Jesus Christ, what an honor it truly is.
