I watched Jessica Merizan's youtube video yesterday about mental illness. She's one of my favorite cosplayers, and I love watching her creations through social media.
It really struck a chord with me, and I was inspired to make my own video and share my story.Β
So here we are.
ON THE 4TH DAY OF 2015 MY BRAIN GAVE TO ME.....
2014 was a rebuilding year.
Here are some nuggets of wisdom that have helped me progress:
1.The relationships that you keep greatly affect you.Β
There are going to be people in your life that add substance, and then there are going to be those people in your life that add entertainment. Some can do both,Β and some can only provide one of those things.Β
First we have the person who offers substance, but no entertainment. You maybe only talk through text every few months. But when you do talk, its as if you hadn't skipped a beat. You can hold a good conversation with this person about life, love, and your pursuits. This person may not be someone you go out with on the weekends, but you know you can rely on them for advice or a chat.Β
Second we have the person that offers you entertainment, and no substance. This is the person that consistently calls you to go out to the bars, to concerts, to parties. When you try to get serious with this person, they don't really listen and direct the conversation to something different, Β something more light hearted and fun. They fade out when you're going through a tough time. But you bet your sweet ass that when times are going good and you want to go to a party, they're the first person to hit you up and want to come.
Then last, we have the type of person who adds substance and entertainment to your life. This person supports you through the hard times, and joins in on the fun during the good times. This person doesn't judge you for your mistakes, but helps you get through them. This person will laugh at your farts when you're talking on the phone.Β
I've learned that someone I can rely on, and that I can have fun with is the best mix of who I want in my life from here on out.Β Keep in mind, there are many different variations of this that can happen. But as for me, and who I chose to keep close...I want substance and I want someone who I can share entertainment with.Β
That being said....
2.Β You cannot change what other people do, only what you do.
After spending time with certain people over the past year or so, I've come to truly realize that you cannot change another persons actions. People are who they are. You cannot try to influence or change a persons perspective until they are willing to change themselves. I've had to take a step back from a few relationships this past year that were very difficult to do. But I did this because I can't continue to co-sign someones bullshit with a refusal to change some pretty serious things that I can't be around. It was hard at first, but in the long run its done wonders for my soul.
3. The constant need to defend your actions, make up excuses, and get defensive get you nowhere.Β
I've really been working hard on this one. I'm trying to make less excuses for myself when I do something wrong. I'm learning to take responsibility where I fuck up. I'm working on owning my shit. In doing this, my quality of life has gotten so much better.Β
4. I no longer feel the need to "impress" other people.
If someone doesn't like me, I really could give a shit less. I remember someone not liking me a long time ago, and it really bothered me. I let it tear me up inside wondering why this person didn't like me. Two years ago I started a detoxing process with the people I chose to keep close in my life. I was dropping people left and right, and I really gained this sense of value and worth. I stopped worrying about the amount of friends I had. I'm now more concerned with the quality of friends and people that I keep close. I don't care if someone likes my clothes, my hair, or my make up. I'm myself, and I've come to realize I'm great just the way I am.
5. To expand on that, I really have become less concerned with my outward appearance.Β
This isn't a bad thing, and this isn't a "I've let myself go" thing. Its a "I'm happy with myself" thing. I'm truly happy with who I am. I may be the heaviest I've ever been, but I still love myself. I may not be attractive by society's incredibly high standards, but I don't give a shit. I love myself. My self esteem is amazing the older I'm getting. I'm really learning to love who I am and working on myself gives me great joy.
6. Taking a look into who you are is never a bad thing.
I'm consistently learning about myself. I'm watching patterns, I'm paying attention to my actions, I'm learning why I'm doing what I'm doing. I can't even begin to tell you how much this has helped the past 2 years. Self reflection is amazing. Its teaching me to stop giving so many fucks. Its again, doing wonders for my soul.
7. Chase your passions.
This year I recorded music again, I started a new crafting hobby, and I started making youtube videos. I'm learning that my passions and my hobbies may not ever be my career, but I still had a lot of fun doing them. Being creative makes me so much happier. Surrounding yourself with like minded individuals also makes this so much more awesome. Go to an open mic night, go to an art class, go to your best friends house and take pictures of yourselves dressed like idiots. Just chase what you love, and have fun.Β
8. Learn to ask for help.
I'm not the kind of person who asks for help. I usually let my pride take over and suffer through things that I could have gotten through with help from friends. I absolutely never take financial assistance from anyone. I always took care of myself if I needed something. This year has been one of the most humbling years of my life. My boyfriend went above and beyond to make sure I wasn't hungry, and that my cats never went without food or cat litter. My dad made sure I had rent money to cover my living expenses. And my best friend in the entire world blessed me with a plane ticket to go visit her and clear my mind. I've just gotten used to accepting help if someone wants to offer it. If someone wants to take me out for a meal, I will accept graciously and thank them. I'm trying to leave my pride at the door.
I can't think too much more about much else because my grandfather is currently trying to make a mess in the kitchen.Β
I'm excited for 2015. I hope that I can find a job this year, and that I can save up more money to be able to travel more. We're 4 days in and its already been difficult, but things are looking up.
2014 IS OVER IN 4 DAYS....
I was lurking around on tumblr tonight for the first time in forever.Β I feel like I just don't understand the majority of females, or how their brains work.
Are some of you girls really that concerned about the opposite sex? Like are you that desperate and whiney all the time to have a boyfriend? I just really don't get it at all. I like boys, yeah. But I really don't let that shit consume my emotions. Its a waste of my time.
I feel like I'm not emotionally available. I'm not the kind of person to get overly emotional about much of anything. My grandfather has Alzheimers and instead of being really sad about it, I can't wait for it to be over. I hate seeing him suffer and deteriorate. I don't wish it on anyone.Β When I think about people dying, I don't get sad. When I think about myself dying its a little freaky, but I don't really get emotional about it.
I thought I was a sociopath at one point. Sometimes I'll fake emotions because I know thats what I'm supposed to do when someone says or does a certain something. I may not really feel that way, but don't want to seem like a dick for not reacting. I feel and I get outwardly emotional sometimes, but its rare.Β
I don't care what people think about me. I really could give a fuck less. I don't care if a former friend doesn't like me. I don't care if a current friend stops liking me. I get over it and move on to people who actually do give a shit about me. I don't have time to waste on being upset about stupid shit. And someone who doesn't want to make the effort to hang out or stay close, I don't even care anymore.
I've reached a level of self awareness that is almost enlightening. I stopped giving a fuck about the stupid shit and started to work on myself. Its worked wonders. I can smell bullshit a mile away and now steer very clear from it.
Try not giving a fuck, its soooooooo liberating.Β
2014 IS OVER IN 8 DAYS........
I'm going to try and write about some of favorite things that happened in 2014, some of the things I've learned in 2014, and some of the things that I look back on from 2014 with as much fondness.Β
Today, we're going to talk about growing up.
I was reading through an AskReddit threadΒ yesterday and was highly intrigued by some of the answers I was reading about what makes someone attractive that is NOT appearance based.
Some of the answers were about hygiene, some were about your confidence, and others were about your attitude.
I came across these comments:
First of all, PREACH.
Second, PREACH IT AGAIN.
Growing up, to me, IS NOT simply being a legal adult who holds a decent job and pays the bills, buys beer, can rent a car, or own a gun.
Being grown up, to me, IS someone who can take responsibility for themselves. It's someone who can admit when they're right with grace, and when they're wrong with humility. To me, it is someone who can admit and learn from their mistakes and short comings.Β
That constant need to defend yourself and make up excuses drives me absolutely insane. In 2014, I've started to direct myself away from those types of people in my life. I've distanced myself from the negative people who were simply refusing to "grow up".Β
I'm as immature when it comes to poop jokes as the next clown, but I can also admit when I've fucked up. Instead of placing blame on something else when I rear ended a car for the first time ever this year, I accepted full responsibility and sought out how to get the issues addressed immediately.Β
Instead of defending my shitty actions, I accept my shitty actions. I pick apart the reason things are going the way they are, I do some soul searching, and I seek to correct the issues.Β
I'm a work in progress. I'm not the all knowing grown up. Truthfully, I'm kind of a mess.
But the amount of self awareness I have is almost enlightening. I'm completely in tune with myself and I consider that a much bigger success than having the fanciest job (or a job at all) or the most money in my bank account.Β
I would much rather me be poor and improving myself mentally, than to be rich and be a shitty person.Β
Its hard to look at yourself and admit your faults. Its hard to change. But slowly, I've been able to transform my life. I would pick one fault at a time and work on it. I started by separating myself from toxic people, and doing some inner reflection. I began to seek therapy and mental health options. I am now waiting for test results to improve my health so that I can lose the weight I've gained and get back to being a healthier me.
This has all come with time and the right mind set. When my mind is not right, the rest of my world comes crashing down. Now that my mind is better, I feel like I can conquer the world in 2015.

ROUGH STUFF
Getting sober was easier than the bullshit I'm going through right now. My challenges getting sober and losing mostly everyone was the hardest thing I had gone through until this shitty season.
I had someone close to me check up on me after I got into a car accident last week. One awesome sprinkle of toppings to the shit sundae that is my life right now. She said that she admired me, and that she wouldn't ever be able to handle all of the things I'm dealing with at once right now. She said Β that God is clearly putting these things in my path for a reason, and that I'm being tested....and passing with flying colors.Β
But being tested for what?
When you're wading through that shit creek, its often hard to see the clean water at the end of it all.Β
For me, I'm a fighter. I may not do things at the speed that people want me to do them at, but I'm taking it a day at a time. I'm pushing through this anxiety storm, and this depression that wants to take over. I won't let it happen. I'm not the kind of person to let things bring me down easily.Β
And honestly, I'm surprised I'm not breaking down with the heavy weight I feel in a lot of different aspects of life.Β
Some of you may not believe in God, and thats cool with me, but I do believe in God. And God is watching over me right now....HARD. Without me even realizing it.Β
I think I need to keep applying, keep focusing on my passion, find what I really want to do and chase it. I've got a few plans up my sleeve and want to see what could happen in a different setting.Β
That moment when you try to take a funny picture, but you're accidentally taking a video.

"You're just a shell of yourself."
I remember getting into the car and going out to the bay, so that we could play on the playground. He chased me through the sand and made sure that if I fell down, I was alright. The snack stand and I had become best friends at this point. I always got a pixie stick to overload me with sugar.
Countless trips to the zoo, Sea World, and Disneyland were under my belt. We took road trips across the country, pretending to be cooks and pirates in the RV. When I was 9, you made sure we took the road trip of a life time to Yellowstone National Park. I lost all of the pictures from that trip, but the memories are still alive and well. We came across a buffalo crossing, we took pictures on the edge of a cliff with only a tree standing blowing in the harsh winds, and horseback riding through the mountains of Wyoming. I forgot my CD's so we listened to Tragic Kingdom by No Doubt for 10 days straight. Whenever I listen to that album, I remember that trip. I didn't appreciate that trip then, but I sure as shit do now.
When I was 7, you made sure I stayed with my family. I'm sure the last thing you wanted to be doing was raising a little shit bag in your 50's. But you did. You took responsibility for me, and made sure I was taken care of above and beyond what I deserved sometimes.Β
You helped me with school projects, drove me to my friends houses at all hours of the day and night, and threw me birthday parties. You got me the N64 I still play with to this day, you put up with the multiple pets I would bring home, and you taught me how to take care of a cat really well.
You bought my school uniforms when I went to private school. You bought my shoes I had to have because all the other kids had them. And you taught me how to use a washing machine to wash said clothing and shoes by my damn self.
When I was a teenager, you taught me how to drive. I remember scaring you on more than one occasion on those morning drives to school. I remember you letting me take the car to school the day I got my license, just so I could show off that I passed my test. You let me take the car a lot, so that I could feel independent. You trusted me, even though sometimes I probably shouldn't had been trusted.
You sent me to college, even though you didn't need to. That degree was over priced, but I'm absolutely the luckiest person in the world to exit college without any debt. On top of that, you blessed me with the best graduation present I think I still didn't deserve at the time, a brand new car. I drove that car off the lot the happiest person in the world. I remember you calling me, telling you to meet you at the dealership after class. I begged my teacher to leave early and rushed there to get my graduation present way too early.
You didn't understand what was happening when I got sober, but you never pushed me to do anything I didn't want to do. I stayed with my grandma for a month because I wasn't comfortable in my own room. You never pressured me. You let me heal the way I needed to. You drove me to the ER countless times to figure out what was wrong with me. You drove me to doctors appointments and to psych appointments. You made sure I was taken care of physically and mentally not only then, but my entire life.Β
Those opportunities to travel the places that I got to travel to, would never had happened without you. The things that I was given and blessed with wouldn't have been possible without you. The silly memories and stories wouldn't be the same without you there.
When I was 21, I finally left the nest.
I landed a decent paying job a month after I graduated college, cashed out one of my bank accounts, and found my first apartment. Β
Everything was great. I was working a job I liked, had good friends to have fun with, and finally gained a sense of true independence for the first time in my life.
I started to notice a very slow and gradual decline with you. You would forget to write things down on the grocery list, your things would get misplaced, you would forget where you put something down.Β
Not too long after this started, the doctors determined it was the early stages of Alzheimers.
At first, it was simple. Take a few pills, do some mind strengthening exercises, and stay active physically. You took multiple walks a day, and still do now.
It started to escalate a little further for a couple of years.
You would make trips to the bank, very convinced that you were running out of money and taking out different amounts multiple times a week.
You would pay bills too many times.Β
You would send money to those ridiculous "pity my organization" type junk mail people over and over again. You were their best friend for a while, I'm sure.
It started getting to the point where food would be left in the oven, on the stove, or in the microwave for far too long.
You would take your meds too many times a day.
Thats when dad moved in.
HeΒ moved in to make sure you didn't burn the damn house down, and to make sure you weren't losing money anymore. He was there to make sure you weren't paying those ridiculous organizations preying on old people. He was there to make sure your medication was taken properly, and at the correct dosage. He was making sure you turned the microwave or stove off.Β
Things were still manageable for a while. You still drove, you still went to the store with your own money (given to you in small amounts by dad) and bought groceries you wanted. You still did your crossword puzzles and read your magazines. You could still manage to do your own thing, with a very minor bit of supervision.Β
Slowly but surely, the decline became worse.Β
As the months went by, the Alzheimers would progress.Β
It came to the point where we had to take your license away. I remember the last trip I ever drove with you. It was to the store in Chula Vista. It wasn't far, but it was the most terrifying experience I had ever had. You weren't hitting the brakes until the last minute, you shotgun started that car every light that turned green, and you turned way too fast for what that car could handle.
Dad would go out and spend time with his Ministry kids and families, he would go to dinner with his best friend, and go to meetings with his friends. The worse you got, the less time he could spend going out to do those things.
It started with dad being gone all day, doing whatever he needed to do. Then, dad could only be gone for about 6-8 hours a day. Then, dad could only be gone for about 4-5 hours a day. Then, down to 1-2 hours a day. Now, we're at the point where my dad can no longer leave the house without grandpa being supervised. He can go to the car for 5 minutes, or to the mailbox. But no more breakfasts with friends, trips to hang out with Ministry kids, or meetings.
Since its become this way, I've started to come in 1-3 days a week depending on the week. I'll be there anywhere from 2-5 hours depending on what my dad needs.
I'm not there enough to see every negative aspect of this disease, but the small amount that I'm seeing weekly is enough for me to fucking hate this disease for everything that it is.
My grandfather doesn't deserve this.
He lived such a great life, serving his country, making sure people were taken care of despite how shitty they may have turned out, and raising his granddaughter when no one else could at the time.
My grandfather doesn't deserve Alzheimers.
He is becoming a shell of the person that I used to know. He looks the same, but he's different.Β
I find that I'm repeating myself multiple times within a really small time frame because he can't remember what we're talking about. He will try to get into things he can't get into, over and over again. He's got this obsession with the back patio door. We don't let him have a key anymore because the last time he had access to a hose, he flooded the neighbors back yard.Β
This person that used to take care of me, is now being taken care of. The person that made sure I was fed, I'm now making sure is fed correctly. The person who would take me to the park to walk around in the sand and play, I'm now taking to the park to keep him active.
Its surreal to be in this position. I haven't really processed it all the way, to be honest. I'm not sad, I'm not upset. This is something we've known about for years. I guess whats surreal is the fact that the decline I'm seeing now, was much more rapid than before. Over the matter of about 4 years, the decline was going by slowly. Then, over this past year or so, I've seen a drastic and rapid downfall.Β
The man that once took me to the zoo and taught me how to drive, isn't going to remember what my name is before too long.
I'm scared.
I'm scared for the day that things get so bad, that we have to put him into a full time care facility. I'm scared for my dad now. He's so stressed out, and its shitting on his mental and physical well being hard. I'm scared of theΒ intenseΒ rapid decline I've been reading about. I'mΒ scaredΒ of that final stage of Alzheimers.Β
My dad and I are all we have. Our other family members don't help out, so its just us two making sure things are taken care of. Its just us making sure that grandpa has a guardian at all times. Its surreal to me that at 26 years old, I have to makeΒ sure an 80 year old man is taken care of.
I can't imagine it from my fathers perspective. Thats his parent. If I was doing this for my own dad, I don't know where I'd be mentally.Β
The only advice I have to give if you're reading this and dealing with a family member or loved one with Alzheimers, is to lean on those that you love and care about. Seek help if you need it. Talk to the people you care about and seek comfort through those people.
The one thing that keeps me going, and keeps me positive is that this is a season. This isn't a permanent situation. One day, we will all be released from this pain and sadness. One day, my grandfather will be able to rest easy and hang out with the big guy upstairs. Until then, its going to be an uphill battle full of pain and suffering.
Its only a season, thats what I keep telling myself.Β

These 2 are amazing first time parents. Its their first go at this, and Aria is going to grow up with the 2 best parents ever. I just can't wait to spoil her and take her out for ice cream, and then give her back all hopped up on sugar.
My Birthday is September 18th, but my sister couldn't resist baking me a cake and singing me Happy Birthday with her boyfriends family. That cake was fucking delicious, and I have some crumbled up in my carry on as we speak.

Philadelphia Photoset 1
I've fallen in love with Philadelphia
September 11th, I boarded a plane to come visit my little sister, Chelsea, and my new niece, Aria. I hadn't flown in nearly 6-7 years, and I was absolutely terrified to say the least. Once we took off, my seat mates made me feel at ease about the 5 hour flight. I watched movies on my iPad and paid for the expensive plane internet to keep myself sane.
I landed in Philly around dinner time. I was so relieved to get off of the plane and stretch my legs. I was extremely happy to be back on solid ground.
Over the next few days we went all over Philadelphia and New Jersey. We traveled out in the country side to have dinner with her family. We went to a few of the local spots in town for food. We brought Aria around town and showed her some of the sights even though she slept through all of it.Β
My highlights of this trip....
Reading Terminal Market:
We had lunch here twice because the food was so good. Imagine and indoor farmers market dedicated to fresh food, fresh meats and cheeses, good ass restaurants, and bakeries. The food was delicious, the bakeries were delicious, and the atmosphere was really awesome. I'll definitely be back when I come back next year.
The Rocky Steps
I really thought that I would be more tired than I was when I climbed up those steps. The view from the top was phenomenal. You could see Philly from a very beautiful prospective.
Independence Hall
There was so much history in this couple block radius. Thomas Jefferson's Garden, Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell. I was blown away by the beautiful buildings.
The food was amazing. Geno's Cheesesteaks are the best thing I've ever eaten in my life. Go get one when you're in Philly.
My niece is adorable. She's about 6 weeks old, and I'm sure by the next time I come out here she'll be running around raising hell.
I'm going to add more photos to another post. I just wanted to get up something for you guys to see what I've been doing.
I had such a fun time here. My flight home takes off tomorrow afternoon. If I didn't have responsibilities in San Diego, I would fly my pets out and never leave. I love it here. I can definitely see myself moving out East in the next 5-10 years.Β
I'll miss my sister and my niece when I leave, but I know that next year I'll most likely be out here again. Plus, we have Skype and talking on the phone.
