Perhaps that’s not a bad idea… I could still wear a gorgeous best maid’s dress as a city hall witness, and then you could have a party that would feel a lot more relaxed than any big elaborate thing you had to plan. Or if she felt willing to let me and her… is he also a best maid? The best maids, if she let us help a bit perhaps, take some of the weight off her shoulders. I don’t want either of you burning out worrying about this, and it absolutely should be something that’s for the two of you when all is said and done. It has to be memorable because of what it means to you and not because of the enormous breakdowns that come along with the whole thing.

I’m just going to say that I love you, that you’re always right, and that I appreciate you dragging me to that meeting despite my protests.

At least you agree with me. Trying to convince my future wife of this though is damn near impossible. I just want her to be happy, Ri, and all of this, the planning and organising, it’s stressing her out and it’s making her unhappy. I hate seeing her like this and not being able to do anything to make it better for her. I can suggest to her letting the best maids help but I don’t know if she’ll go for it. I’m not worried about the wedding, I’m worried about Charlie though, I swear if she starts getting sick over this I’m throwing her in a cab and getting the first flight out of here to Vegas, her family can be pissed all they want, it’s her I’m worried about, not them. 

I know she’s been really diving into all the planning. You’ll have to come with if you like, just to enjoy all those confused faces. Perhaps I’ll get a number or two. Those shops always have a couple of gay employees… It’s been awhile since I properly picked anyone up.

YShe really has. I worry about her, Riley, she’s putting so much pressure on herself with all of this and I don’t seem to be able to help with anything. Part of me wants to just take her to town hall and get married just the two of us. We can still do the big thing for everyone else, but this is meant to be her day and her getting all stressed about it just seems like it’s going to ruin it for her and she deserves more than that. I like that you think I wasn’t going to come in the first place! I’ll be there, ready with the camera to take pics so that when we’ve all got tiny versions of ourselves running around I can show them exactly the kind of best friend you are and what they have to live up to. Ok, now I’m definitely coming, given your history, sorry babe, you are in need of a wingwoman to make sure you don’t take home so jerkoff that’s can fuck and buck. 

It’s a job you take very seriously. Best maid it is then… It’s a title I’m very proud to take on. Just as soon as I know what color the dress should be in, I’m happy to start looking. The looks I’m going to get as I shop will be absolutely delicious.

Oh good, because an hour in a room full of drunks even weepier than I am is exactly what I need to stay sober. How anyone finds the strength not to drink after one of those meetings is beyond me.

I do, I’m fully committed to it. Good because I wouldn’t want anyone else in the world as my best maid. I’ll talk to Charlie and find out. I genuinely have no idea on that front, she’s been working her ass off with all of it and I’ve just been trying not to step on her toes and stress her out even more. Oh, it’s going to be scrumptious! 

She’s been living in her room cave since she got here. It’s not like you’ve had many chances to see her. But yes… she’s good people, and she’s absolutely never going to be my best friend. I have a best friend and her name is Dani. Best maid… I like it. When do I get to go dress shopping?

Kinda sounds like us back in Second Hope. I know, I just like winding you up, it’s my job as your best friend to drive you insane. You do? Then maybe that will be your officially title. I’ve been trying to mesh the best man and maid of honour together and that’s the best I’ve come up with so far. How about when you’re not hanging? 

She lives with me. For a few months now. World came crashing down on her and I took her in for awhile. We met… I don’t offhand remember how we met now, but it was after Second Hope. Anyway, she’s here, she’s lovely, but she’s in no way competition for you as my best friend. And she’s eating ice cream, so I think she’s fine.
