″ Guilty for change.” Case Study 5 : Lesson 6
How is it possible that a basically good person who preached a set of values and beliefs about truth, wisdom and good governance was accused and put to death?
- The world is filled with people with different thoughts and opinions on different things. It is full of people who has different purpose in their life, purpose for power, purpose for happiness and many more to mention. The greed of men to power leads to men’s ignorance and if ignorance grows within men it can form a strong opinion that is filled with false accusations. People with power see people that have different thoughts as them as an enemy. We can compare this to bullying, the one who speaks his mind will be the next target so that, he can’t grow his supporters. Men are afraid with other men who has the capacity to take their power away. That’s why they are selfish to the people they govern, they want no one to grow alongside of them.
Is it possible that politics plays a role in how the good and truth are ultimately defined and lived?
- On the web, Politics is defined as the organized control over a human community. Yes, I believe that politics play a role on the ultimate definition of truth and good but it is not as wide as religions influence but it is influential.
- It is the job of the people involved to politics to help govern our country and mold them into a united group of people and because of it the people in politics must place all the people in our society in one table, in one thought to keep us intact. They make laws, rules and regulations to guide us to what we perceive as a good action or a bad (illegal) action.
- Define the notion of “virtue”. Which are important virtues?
- Based on Wikipedia “Virtue is a trait or quality that is deemed to be morally good and thus is valued as a foundation of principle and good moral being.”
- It refers to the moral capacity of a person, if a man has a high capacity of morality he is filled with good character traits and these positive character traits, makes a man committed to do good things even if it’s against one’s personal wishes.
-
Below are the following Important Virtues that can be found online
- important human virtues
- —empathy,
- compassion,
- kindness,
- generosity,
- service,
- loyalty,
- patriotism
- and forgiveness
Describe “moral relativism.”
Moral relativism is the view that ethical standards, morality, and positions of right or wrong are culturally based and therefore subject to a person’s individual choice. We can all decide what is right for ourselves. You decide what’s right for you, and I’ll decide what’s right for me. Moral relativism says, “It’s true for me, if I believe it.”
- Moral relativism is the belief that there are no universal or a natural set of ethics or standards that we men must follow. In simpler words, A thing is only right or wrong if we perceive it to be wrong . This is the belief that you cannot put anyone under punishments of law because in the first place there were no existing laws passed down by an upper hand. We have our very own perception of what is right and wrong that’s why one MUST have no concern of what you believe in.”
Formulate resolutions regarding knowing the truth, doing that is good, and avoiding evil.
- To know truth, well and avoid evil. One must know what the truth, good, and evil first is. One must have an idea of what they are dealing with.
Truth: One must first, know “a truth or fact” about what he or she believes is true. He or she must consider the ones that will be affected with his or her words.
Good: To know what is good, on must consider his or her way of living is he living with the directions of religion or does he live on his own beliefs and wills. One must also be aware if this will affect him or her as a man living in the world.
Avoiding Evil, to avoid evil, one must be aware of his or her surroundings and he or she must think through things before committing it. Because an action that has been done cannot be taken away anymore.

″ Kind Hearts” Case Study 4 : Lesson 5
What do you think has molded the honest and cheerful behavior of Mang Eugenio?
- On my point of view, Mr. Eugenio was molded by __ things
- First, he is molded by love, he loves his job, he is passionate about his job that is why he wants to keep it for as long as he lived.
- Second, he is aware that the world is a very cruel place to some and he wanted to give his passengers a short time to be able to gather peace and love.
What lesson can learned from the good example of Mang Eugenio?
- We must not only act because of the benefits that we are wishing to acquire. One must act because it is ethical and it is right. One must act because he or she wants to be ethical not because he was forced to.
- What can be done in our schools in order to teach and train students in honest and ethical behavior?
First, as educators of our future generation we must be the role models of what they should become. We must show them that we are ethical in both our hearts and minds not only by the words we speak but also by the actions we commit

″ Ethical Culture” Case Study 2 : Lesson 3
Who is responsible for an ethical culture in a business organization?
· The leaders or the higher-ups are responsible for the ethical culture of the organization. They are responsible for the wide implementation of culture that must be prevalent to the company for they are the one who the employees look up to.
-
What are some examples of unethical business behavior exemplified in the movie Wall Street?
One of them is when, Gekko is convincing the shareholders that greed is good and that greed is right. It is unethical because as an employee of the company, you must provide the shareholders the right behavior and ethics of your company.
How can a corporate code of ethics help a company to be ethical?
The code of ethics symbolizes three things in a company
- It is a compass, it guides the company about the moral quality that they must possess in order to mold the company as an ethical and successful company
- It is a glue, it keeps the company united and helps them to go to one direction together.
- It is a gear in a clock, it is the thing that makes the company move well and in sync.
-
Is it possible for a company to collapse due to unethical practices despite having a Code of Ethics? If so, give an example or explain further.
- Yes, it is possible. A company doing unethical practices despite having code of ethics will just project their dishonesty and un-professionalism in the field.
- An example of this is Halliburton
Halliburton is one of the biggest oil corporations in the world. They faced multiple lawsuits from their very own employees for endangering employees, endangering National Guard members by mistakenly exposing them to hazardous chemicals, and over oil spills said to be the result of thoughtless and dangerous practices.
-
What can practice of virtue, on the part of the individuals in the organization, do to ensure ethical behavior and successful company operations?
- If the individuals of the company individually practices the ethics this will eventually develop as a culture and a habit. They will have a single direction through the objectives and goals of the company. There will be no chaotic events that will hinder them to their progress. Their behavior will cause a domino effect not just internally but also externally to their consumers. It will give them a positive image to the consumers and the world it will also build them a loyal group of supporters

″ Cinderella.” Case Study 1 : Lesson 2
What is the main vision and mission of Rags2Riches? What did it seek to achieve?
The main of the Rags2Riches is to help women in Payatas and also to relieve poverty in Payatas which is considered as one of the biggest dumpsite of our country, the Philippines.
What method did the business employ in order to help in poverty alleviation?
Rags2Riches tried the method of using scraps and stitching them together to make colorful doormats, rags and rugs that is commonly used for cleaning in our Filipino homes. They considered using scraps because it is cheaper and widely available in dumpsites.
Is it possible for a business enterprise to fulfill a social function (such as help reduce poverty) and at the same time earn profit? Explain your answer based on the business model of Rags2Riches.
Yes, this approach is possible. It is possible because many consumers are getting themselves caught on this method because of their belief that by spending on a company that is giving back to the society is an ethical company. It also feeds satisfaction to people’s behavior because it gives them the thought that it is not just the company who is giving back but, also them. This approach is viewed as “charity” to our society and the profit that the company earns is seen as a form of reward to them.
Do you know of any other enterprise in the Philippines that has achieved what Rags2Riches has achieved, i.e., severe a social function and, at the same, make money? If so, describe that nature or operations of that enterprise.
Benitez Collection, Their production and sales of their products by provides revenue and employment to women that are less privileged in the Philippines and 10% of the revenues are re-invested into Gawad Kalinga projects for the community of those villages to help fight poverty.

GLOBALIZATION
“Globalization has changed and influenced people’s lives”. In what way?
Globalization has shown us an intense impact, it has affected our lives in many unimaginable ways. It has changed and influenced us in both good ways and bad ways. It has helped us to be more open to different cultures around the world, to be more open to many brands all around the globe, easy transportation but, with these endless positive benefits comes negative benefits as well, easy transportation also means easy transportation for viruses and diseases all around the world, easy kill of the local companies because of the foreign brands entering home and many more.
“Through globalization. there is better access to better products from different countries”. What are those better products? Do you agree?
Globalization is believed to be the end of geography, it means that countries will be more open to their borders and trade. They will be more welcome with more reduced restrictions for other brands to easily enter the country. Locals will be able to easily afford it and patronize those products because it can easily enter the country. Locals can easily buy products that are not produced locally.
“Globalization promotes understanding and goodwill among different countries.” How?
Globalization gives the world a window for others to see through the vast cultures and traditions of different nations. With those windows, we are able to view and accept the differences of each because we now have the idea of what is happening around us. We are now aware of their reasons and excuses. We can adapt them because we are now educated about it.
“Global market may lead to the loss of cultural identity as Western ideas are always imposed upon the Eastern thoughts.” Do you agree? Why? Why not?
Yes, I do believe that there is a big possibility that the world might lose their cultural identities. The world is believed to be turning to the western ideas because it is alleged to be the superior idea around the globe. Everyone is adapting to the belief and it scares many people especially the ones who are very protective of their culture.
“Globalization can increase the spread of communicable disease and cause social degeneration”. has this happened? How?
With globalization, modes of transportation will be more accessible and borders are open for foreign nationals. An individual that is carrying a disease that connects to an interaction every day can easily spread diseases with the people surrounding him or her.
Many deadly diseases or viruses of today has escalated throughout the globe because of the foreigners entering the country.
Also with the easy access of transport and opening of borders, we are also opening our minds to the cultures of the foreigners coming in, we might lose the core of our cultures because we are being surrounded by many more cultures that are wanting to be shared too.
Going Back - Moving On: Philippines Migrants Return Home
What does it mean "to go back home" in the Philippines context?
For the Overseas Filipino Workers, the phrase “to go back home “usually means, to be in the arms of the family they have left behind. It is a verbally expressed of their endless yearning of what they call home, a home in which they feel that they belong. A safe haven that doesn’t judge them because of their nationality or status. Or it could be their only option, many Filipino leave foreign countries because of the extreme conditions that have welcomed them. Many Filipinos especially the female sex are experiencing harsh conditions like harassment, violence and much more. To go back home is a wish that many OFW’s hope for, they seek for the warmth of the Filipino people.
How does it cost to move on for a migrant worker?
Moving back home after many years of leaving home is not easy. After being accustomed to the culture and behaviors of the foreign country that one has lived in for years, it would be tough to settle for their local country. You might take a step back and view your country and compare it with other countries. You might hate some of the Filipino behaviors because they have now seemed a little bit odd to them. They will also find it hard to settle down because of your financial needs. They believe that there is no more chance for them in the Philippines.

How will you start with simple things?
As a citizen of the Philippines that is one of the founding members of the Philippines, I will start with myself, we are aware that our Filipino culture has behaviors that is a big no-no for this kind of execution of change. I will be open to the doors of changes but still be meticulous of the effects of these changes, I will be willing to see the changes that my country and the ASEAN wanted for our country but still speak out my comments that are constructed.

“Globalization has changed us into a company that searches the world, not just to sell or to source, but to find intellectual capital - the world’s best talents and greatest ideas.” - Jack Welch
Chapter 5 :Over the Horizon
In a world that is constantly changing every single second as we breathe. We must be sure to catch up with its ever-growing developments and connections. I am just a mere citizen and my country, I may not be of any help but, I will still do my obligation.
I will be a citizen that is informed. How? I will be reading and watching the news. I will be meticulous in judging and in researching of topics that affect my nation and the world.
I will be a citizen that is responsible and obedient but, I will still practice my freedom of speech. I will abide my nation’s law so that the others will do too. I will be responsible for how I react to my governments, shortcomings, and controversies. This is a behavior that will start from an individual that may gradually affect other people.
With this behaviors, I will make sure to show the world will see that the Filipinos are not just hard working but also, a well-guided and responsible people.

CHAPTER 5
*Beep* Disconnected.
To be connected is to be alive. To feel that you are with the world, to feel that you are one with it. Being connected to what’s around you will keep you moving, informed and with the world. It keeps you on the ongoing road of life.
But, are we really fully connected with ourselves and to the world? The world is a big factory, everyone has their own job and task that they are focusing on, and because of this, they don’t mind the other things that are surrounding them. We are living in a world that is functioning because everyone is working, we are not alone and we must learn to connect and be aware.
I admit that I lack connection both within myself and others. To be connected, I will practice with myself first, I will learn my capabilities by exercising it in my daily situations like decision making. To the world, I will always read the news to keep me updated as a citizen. I will try to speak out my voice and knowledge that I can share online. I will exercise my rights to speak. I will also look out for my other fellow beings and communicated with them in the way that I can.
It is important to live with others for they will teach you and you will too. Life is filled with different wires to keep us connected. We should use it efficiently.

What is keeping me and you connected? (Chapter 4)
The brain has been one of the most “peculiar & magical” things that we humans have ever tried to get our hands on. We have tried every possible way and sets of experiments just to get the quirks and works of the human mind. But, to no avail, our mind is just as mysterious as the universe.
The brain is known to be the control center of our body, it processes the information that we receive from our senses. We process information almost every second of our day when we breathe when we talk or walk and many more of our activities. The brain connects us to our everyday lives, to the things we do or people we encounter. The brain is a lot of work for us to be able to grasp the whole being of the brain. So we have found an alternative to study our brain and understand its complexities.
The brain is compared to thing that keeps us connected worldwide called the “Telecommunication”. Telecommunication is what keep us updated and connected to the everyday events in our world. It works very much like our brain, it is fast, it holds much information that it can share with you and it has an effective network.
Our brain keeps us connected to ourselves but, we have a connection that is more than what is on our self. Our world has connected us more and more in many ways. A popular topic of our connection is with our environment and other organisms. We connect with them because of our needs, we need them to live that is why we must give back to them. We are connected because we give each other our needs for survival.
Another example is the biggest thing that connects our people from other people, energy. Energy is like money in many countries. Although there are many ways to get energy, the most important and fast way is oil. Oil has been keeping countries connected, it could be for the reason that a country severely needs it or a country can benefit from it.
The examples above show that we are connected in different ways. Connected in ourselves, with others or to the world. We know that we are never alone. We are always together in some aspects.
