Look, it’s kind of obvious. She wants to be with Nick. She’s in love with Nick. It doesn’t mean I don’t think Luke is an amazing guy. It also doesn’t mean that I don’t think she should be with Luke. I think she has a much happier life with Luke. But it’s not in the cards, unfortunately, for this woman, and that scene in episode 10 is a great example of why. The person that she is now, for better or worse, is a very different person from the one who married Luke. [June and Nick have] been in a war together. They continue to be in that war together. They say one of the most important things about being in a relationship is that what’s important to you is important to the other person. Luke is not going to deliver Fred to her to tear apart into pieces, and that’s what’s important to her.

Are there any big questions you want answered next season?

Hannah, Hannah, Hannah. Always Hannah. I want to know what’s going to happen to Janine and Esther and that little gang that’s formed of the two of them. Jesus Christ, that’s going to be interesting. I want to know if Lawrence is going to prove himself to be a good man. I want to know how Emily is going to find her revenge. And for June, Hannah, Hannah, Hannah. And what is she going to do to try to bring down this regime? Then, of course, Nick. What’s going to happen with Nick? Let’s be honest, that’s pretty much the only thing I care about. [Laughs]

When he put that ring on his finger in episode 9? I was screaming.

I know. I was screaming! I’m a fan. That moment where he put that ring on makes me scream when I see it. I’m like, “Oh my god, no!”

This was post was difficult for me to write because I didn’t know where to begin considering how many forms of intimacy Nick and June share with each other and the many different things I could say about intimacy as it pertains to Nick and June just in general. But then I thought once again about humour and the role their jokes play in establishing intimacy between the two of them. 

I do believe that there had probably always been a curiosity/attraction between the two of them from a distance but it isn’t until Nick cracks the joke about tuna 

that a tangible connection is forged between them. It is important to note that in her interior monologue June, a few seconds earlier, had been wry and ironic

and then Nick makes a joke out loud

and she goes from simply explaining who he is i.e. he’s a driver, low status, hasn’t even been issued a woman, to wondering if he’s lonely, which adds another layer of humanity to him. 

The next scene they have together further establishes their connection as June takes it upon herself to play a prank on him 

as I believe a kind of test to see how he responds and whether or not he can be an ally of sorts, but it’s also a private joke, a secret between them because Rita has no idea that Nick doesn’t like tuna, and now noting his sense of humour, the two of them share something that neither of them share with anyone else in the house 

and quickly, humour becomes a way for Nick and June to familiarize themselves with each other in particularly tense situations

which then forges a space that allows for other types of intimacy to occur between them 

because of the safety and familiarity that cracking a joke

affords them

it’s such a prevalent but subtly layered form of intimacy between them because it begets even more intimacy.
