Kickboxing?
Last meeting we had a session on kickboxing aerobics. It was super fun but I think it would have been more fun if I had had enough space in the house to punch and kick around. Out of all the workouts *this* was the one that was most stress relieving for me. Maybe because Iām just generally an angry little person lololol. Iām not sure what happened after sinc I pretty much just took a shower and fell asleep right after. Super intense!!!
Optimus Priming Exercise
So we were told to react to this video. Ok i have to admit, at first glance,,,,maāam naman, ang,,,,,,,,,dyahe š . Bale, close your eyes and feel it.Ā Lalo naāt madalas, yung mental and emotional states natin, napaka-haywire . Making an effort to feel good physically, gives our mental and emotional selves a fighting chance. Itās a good exercise in awareness and just being kind to oneself. Good vibes everyone! have a great life.
Chill Out
I wasnāt able to attend the last meeting because I wasnāt feeling well. I came to class pretty confused because I dont remember any warm-up choreography HEHEHEHE but anyway Todayās meeting ended and we were told to think of some pre-cooldown songs after an aerobic dance. I recommended Lover by Taylor Swift and itās good for both pre-cooldown and cooldown. I donāt think I could have thought of it but the instructor also recommended looking for other versions of the same song. Oo nga āno for our second video we have to make a pre-cooldown and cooldown segment for the live workout we have to do. I canāt even remember what I choreographed for the last one HUHU. Iām going to try my best. Iām thinking of making a whole aerobic dance on nothing but Lana Del Rey songs. Who says you canāt dance to Lana? Iām a 2010 hipster I know what Iām doing. ;)
uhm....
Last meeting I wasnāt able to attend because I wasnāt feeling well... Hope Iām ok enough today :) . Weāre working on cool-downs.

Two Left Feet
All I can say is that I tried.Ā We were told to choreograph our own dance to the music from last meeting. Oh Lordt. The frustration. I feel like if I sat down and wrote the counts down and danced it out, I would have done better. I shouldāve picked up some pen and paper to write down the sequence of steps. I donāt know what Iām doing haha huhu. Physically, I wasnāt fazed by todayās meeting because I pretty much spent half the period just standing there blankly staring and counting beats to try and see when I could enter the song with my choreography again. Mentally, this was probably the most taxing meeting.Ā Emotionally, this was the caveat. The negative self-talk can be a downward spiral when I do stuff like this. Itās nice that our instructor was encouraging the whole way because I would have given up. But I guess itās just powering through the mistakes and laughing at myself. When I take it too seriously, it just becomes a disaster :^) . I suppose thatās the main takeaway from this meeting. Be kind to yourselves :DĀ
First Choreography!!
Today, we discussed ways to vary footwork with different kinds of repetition *single single double double pa morreee* as well as some fitness variations. If anything, the different tempos were the real challenge. I can double-double like an 80 year old but if you ask me to do it at concert speed, my legs get so tangled up lol. Afterwards, Maāam gave us a simple sequence to the songĀ āProvideā. Yes, the hip-hop/R&B song by G-Eazy and Chris Brown. The instructor gave us a homework on what song the original was and Iām pretty sure it sampled āReturn of the Mack by Mark Morrisonā. Hence the 1990s-eque vibes :))
I really got into listening to songs that sampled other older songs because itās a lot like finding little easter eggs. Much like how Panic! at the Disco sampled the 80s song āRock Lobsterā in āDonāt Threaten Me With a Good Timeā and thatās how I knew.Ā Anyway, I digress. The choreography taught to us was simple enough but for some reason, when I start overthinking the dance, I mess up hsakjdhasfkd. I tried tho. When I dont know what Iām doing I just dance some random bullsh*t and groove left and right. leT tHE mUSIC tAkE yOU~ That being said, I could follow along most of the dance. I mean most of it was just 50 shades of Sidestep. When you start getting into it, it feels nice. Itās not everyday I feel like I know what Iām doing sksksksk.Ā Iām so excited to understand this shit and make my own choreography so I can monetize it on a 15 minute aerobic-dance youtube video MWAHAHAHHAAHAH
Technical Difficulties
This is a sad but inevitable part of online classes. The webcam started disconnecting. I checked the zoom call and was still on but for some reason something in the app permissions maybe or the webcam itself was malfunctioning. UUGGHHHHGHJGJ so hassle. I tried leaving the call and reconnecting again for like 20 minutes then it got the the point where I kept dancing along anyway despite the camera not working lol. Unsurprisingly, small things like that can get me entering the class mentally dead and emotionally akdjfjdajxfhmaxrmhf. SO FRUSTRATING. I had to dance in the kitchen because there didnāt seem to be much space anywhere. Not sure why but my family is very private so they make a big deal about whether they can be seen passing to and fro in the background which I donāt mind (but they do). I just kind of gesture to pass and THEY. JUST. STAND. THERE.
Anyways, we went over the leg movements again. V-step, marching, etc. except this time we got to travelling around. By changing the direction, Itās supposed to intensify the workout. I couldnāt get the most out of it though because I was already stressdt prior and was totally out of it. Plus, even just changing the direction boggles my brain. Like,,,,I dont know man. Iām overthinking the steps and for some reason Iām deliberately thinking *go left* but my legs dont cooperate. We were even told to add arm movements and at that point I was just doing random bullsh*t HAHAHAH ok well I tried.Ā
Donāt Skip Leg Day
We went over some basic steps for the legs today. No fan kicks here hehe.Ā I can barely dance so Iām eternally grateful for the simple dance instructions. Not as physically exhausting as the usual classes we had but it was more mentally exhausting if anything. How does anyone do the grapevine? The steps we went over were: marching, step touch, knee lift, leg curls, v-step, grapevine, side step.Ā Simple enough. Ended on a high note. I got to follow along most of the class :3.Ā I suppose a cool perk of this is a boost in self-confidence huh.
Aerobic Dance in a Nutshell
Todayās exercise was really fun. All we did in class was discuss the syllabus and the instructor got us to get a drink. Any drink. And weād *hydrate* together whilst discussing the syllabus. Probably not the optimal hydration but all I had close by was these mini liquor bottles. The Feighling ones :^) so I was taking shots of that which helped me later on because she straight up asked us to dance anything.Ā *ANYTHING*Ā No choreography, no video to follow. jUST MOOOVEE.Ā Even with the limited space in the room, I got to moving and so did the liquor. (letās go liquid confidence). Pretty tiring since we had to keep moving without breaks. And the class ended on a high note. Aerobic dance is pretty straightforward.Ā
The wordĀ āaerobicā actually just means it needs oxygen. So when you get huffing and puffing alot, gettingĀ pumpedĀ with your heart rate up, youāre doing it right.Ā
There are lots of ways to classify aerobic dance like high-impact and low-impact and lots of debate as to what counts as high, medium and low intensity workouts but generally:
they base it on maximum heartrateĀ or MHR. Click here for an MHR calculator.
(sorry for linking mayo clinic lmao iād link scihub but thatās illegal)
Low intensity- around 40%-50% of your MHR
Moderate/medium intensity- 50% to 70%
High intensity-Ā 70% to 85%
So you donāt base it on how much you sweat. OK?Ā
Another rough but simpler way to classify it is by using theĀ ātalk testā.
Low intensity- you can still sing. Lady Gaga songs even. Lifeās a breeze.
Moderate/medium intensity- you canāt sing but you can rap. maybe. just slowly. You can hold up a conversation more or less.
High intensity- you can barely talk. much less sing. you can maybe hold a conversation if it means saying one word at a time. if it feels like youāre dying (metaphorically) youāre doing great babe.
Anyway aerobic exercise has lots of great long term and short term effects in scientific studies. It gives you serotonin. Need we say more? Lots of mental, physical and psychological benefits come with exercise so I hope some of you take it up :))

Letās get started
So I took Aerobic dance for a semester for required physical education units. I figuredĀ āHey, maybe this class will bump up my Just Dance 2020 highscoreā. I donāt know what I got myself into. This class is half a gameshow and half exhaustion. I didnāt realize my cardio was SO SO BAD. HAHAHHA.
(literally after 15 minutes of dancing I was *wheezing*). . . . *cough* but itāll get there. after all we just started.
So far Iām digging the energy the instructor has and my classmates have adorable pets scurrying into the camera every once in a while. Itāll be a fun semester Iām sure.
