Kotomi’s heart nearly stopped when she heard Gakupo-kun’s scream. Fear paralyzed her, holding her firmly in place. Even as the man thrust his hand into his chest, her mouth formed words but her voice was lost in the confusion. It felt like she was watching a scene from a show, or a book, but it wasn’t actually happening. After Gakupo fell to the ground, she snapped back to reality and rushed forward.
"G-Gakupo-kun?! W-What….?" She lifted part of his body to try to illicit a response, but it felt like a life-size toy that ran out of batteries. She carefully lifted his face to look into his eyes, but she saw nothing there. "G-Gakupo-kun… this can’t be… no…" She held him closer while a sob caught in her throat. Tears blurred her vision, causing her to almost miss the text that flashed on his arm. "Repair… immediately? Repair…" Suddenly her eyes lit up with realization. Gakupo-kun was a robot. Unlike humans who are so fragile, he could be fixed.
Carefully, she placed an arm around his shoulders and the other under his knees, and lifted him up. He was lighter than she expected. This sort of this must happen occasionally, right? He must have some sort of spare parts at his place. Kotomi rushed there as fast as she could despite carrying him, earning a few odd looks from passersby along the way.
When she reached his apartment and went inside, she carefully placed him on the bed. Perhaps he keeps them in his closet? Kotomi looked on the shelf in his closet and found a couple of boxes labeled spare parts. She pulled down one of the boxes and placed it on the floor beside the bed. Thankfully, in Kotomi’s extensive reading, she had read a book on robots and animated machinery, how they work and how to repair them. She took a closer look at his circuits and CPU, and found them both to be fried. Her hands faltered for a moment. The only way she knew how to repair him quickly, would be to give him a full system restore. What would that do to him? Or her, for that matter? As time kept ticking away, she decided that she needed to do something, and fast. Holding on to her last shred of hope, she performed the system restore.
