That 2017 #look
On the other side of the dressy scale there was a 7 months pregnant lawyer sitting on the floor at IAD
At O’Hare there was a lawyer who was about five minutes away from giving birth sitting there in her sweatpants with a sign that said “I’m a lawyer and I speak Hindi/Urdu”. Just her and her sign and supersized tea from McDonalds.
I’ll say it again. MOSTLY WOMEN.
Why does their being mostly women matter?
Because, statistically speaking, 64% of lawyers in the United States are men, meaning that the majority of the demographic showing up should reflect this. It is also interesting to note that only 27% of American born lawyers are female- that means that a lot of these women are likely immigrants or foreign born. We have a majority of women showing up in a field where they are a minority; women who dropped everything to help defend human rights and the country. There’s no cis-male equivalency to pregnancy, but if you fail to see the importance and stength of a woman who might feasibly go into labour at any second still standing up for what is right and good whilst the majority of politicians are cowering, then I can’t help you.
Who says romance is dead?

2016
Has been a horrific year for me. Just from start to end but the final half is really doing it in for me. In the last 6 months I got into my first car accident and not even a month later, my second. My grandfather just passed away on Sunday, and while we weren't close, I'm close to my dad and I know this is devastating to him and I feel absolutely useless. But by far the worst thing that has happened to me this year, my best friend in the whole entire world, my go-to, my rock, my everything, my gramma, passed away and not a day goes by where I don't think about her. I miss her incredibly. My gramma knew all of my secrets and my dreams and hopes and fears and there's just no replacing a person like that. I miss her every day. So for 2017 I'm going to ring in the new year surrounded by good friends and good times. I'm going to find my self and my self confidence, I'm going to work on improving my mental and physical state of being. I will make 2017 my bitch.
I hate realistic dreams. I feel sick to my stomach now. Dreamt that me and josh had decided to go out separate ways but for some reason I was still living with him and hanging out with him, it was an amicable split and I still loved him we just weren't working out, and he ended up dating his best friend (she's his best friend irl too) and idk the whole thing woke me up in a panic and I feel physically ill.

Found out someone I consider a close personal friend and who I've worked with for 4 years was talking shit and calling me a fatass. No that's cool I don't have fucking feelings or anything. Heart broken.
Why do men think that a back rub leads to sex? Da fuq.
I've always wanted to be the type of girl like in the movies that can just kiss boys on the cheek in thanks and they love it. You know what I'm saying
Don’t tell your daughter that when a boy is mean or rude to her it’s because he has a crush on her. Don’t teach her that abuse is a sign of love.
My mom always taught me yell or fight back. Boys would be mean and I would yell back. I would get my ass pinched and I would smack them as hard as I could.
Who alway got in trouble? Me.
They would call my mother and she always came in and lectures my teachers and threatened to sue for making her miss work and treating me poorly.
She always taught my brothers to respect women. The only fights my brothers ever got in was defending women from someone else.
The school tried to call my father once instead of my mother on us. He came in in his full preacher outfit (being a preacher and all) and gave them an entire sermon on what would Jesus day of he was called in. They decided dealing with my mom was better.
I think my favorite story of this is when some kid snapped my bra and I turned around, didn’t even think about it, and punched that little motherfucker right in the nose.
So naturally, I end up in the principal’s office, refusing to apologize.
“He shouldn’t have put his hands on me and I wouldn’t have hit him!” That’s the only thing I was saying.
These people had the unfortunate luck of catching my dad at home, instead of my mom. So he comes fucking sauntering in there, like he’s Clint fucking Eastwood in some western movie and looks at me.
“Melissa, did you punch him?”
“Yes.” I said.
“Why?”
“Because he snapped my bra strap.”
And he turns his squinty eyed glare to the principal and says, “You’re telling me my daughter is in trouble because that squirrely looking kid put his hands on her and she chose to defend herself? That’s what you are saying to me.”
“Well, sir-” The man kind of stuttered because my dad is kind of intimidating in the quiet sort of way that kind of whispers in the back of your mind that this person could be dangerous. “Melissa did make it physical.”
“No. That kid put his hands on my daughter. Are you saying my daughter cannot defend herself when some boy decides to put hands on her? Is that what you are teaching my girl?”
I didn’t get suspended that day.
*slow clap for excellent parenting*
This is the parent I want to be omg

GEE I hope I can handle it
There’s this one elderly couple who are regulars at the fast-food restaurant where I work. The women isn’t bad, but her husband is the most condescending jackhole I’ve ever had the misfortune of meeting.
They always get the exact same meals, and come in about once a week, so they don’t even have to tell me what they want anymore I already know. Every single time they come in. Every. Single. Time. This man HAS to say something to me that implies I must be mentally challenged because I work in a fast-food restaurant.
He always sarcastically praises me for doing things correctly (as if I have EVER messed up his order). Like “Oh wooooow!!! You did just.right. Sweetie!! GOOD job!! You’ve just got this alllll figured out don’t you :) ???” Seriously, he talks to me like I’m his pet dog or something.
At first I tried to tell myself maybe he doesn’t mean it that way, or maybe he just doesn’t realize how rude he’s being, but after he asked me how old I was when I “quit” High School I knew he was doing it on purpose. I graduated high school, an all AP student, and received honors on my diploma. Apparently to this guy though, only high school dropouts work fast-food.
Every time I see this guy walk in I grit my teeth and resist the urge to roll my eyes, because I know what’s coming. Que the overly enthusiastic compliments, and unnecessarily slow speaking.
Saying things like: “Could I get some sweet tea? if you think you can handle that :(” or “Can I get 3 honey mustards? That’s two and then one more. :)”
I. could. scream.
