OFF CAMPUS (2026) 1x01 - The Deal
Your first love was something you didn't forget; it didn't take a romance novel to tell you so. It was an age old proverb, one his mother had repeated to him many times when he was dating Darcy and in ways it could teach him for the future once they had split. But a first love as epic as Will and Darcy's? Well, that was one no author could pen. His heart beat for her, for many years, and he had resolved himself to get used to it having to beat for itself now that they had broken up. Not that he wanted to, but he also wanted what was best for her. He only ever wanted her to be happy, and it was that twinge of selflessness that he clung to when she left. "I do." He said quickly, jumping at her offer. "You know I always need your guidance, and there's no one around that I'd rather have show me your hometown than you." Another pale blush threaded itself at Will's cheeks and he looked at his shoes, noticing the flecks of Merrock's sand at the threads of his converse. A sight he had never had in New York.
His eyes looked up once again at her omission, a surge of electricity and longing shooting up from his toes. "Really? You did?" He inquired carefully, not thinking his heart could take it if he had misheard her. He nodded, "A coffee and a walk sounds great." He agreed happily, "You know better than anyone that I have enough books at home." Chuckling, he continued, "But we can't leave here until you check out with your purchases because seeing Darcy Jessops buy a book is the best future birthday present I could ask for."
There was no one who had made her feel the way Will made her feel, so losing what they had broke her more than she knew. She was not sure how she was standing there without her knees buckling and falling to the ground overwhelmed with the feelings but again to her that was probably too much like a movie moment. She couldn't help but blush at his comment, but she didn't want to think to much on that comment, "Well I am at your service to be your guide." She said as she bit her lip, getting to spend more time with him was something that made her happy but she didn't want to think this could be anything else no matter what her thoughts were telling her. She nodded, "I did, reading has become a big thing in my life now, my parents were shocked when I came home and just read. I actually exchange books with one of my friends here as well." She smiled, reading made her feel close to him in some ways. She laughed, "You should see my collection at home now its growing. But okay let me quickly purchase this book that I have in my hands." She couldn't even remember picking the book up but she knew she needed to buy it now.
After Darcy purchased her book, they walked out the store, before she walked towards her favourite bakery that did nice coffee as well. "Okay, first stop on your tour of Merrock, this could take weeks so prepared to be sick of me." She laughed, "We're heading to Cherry Armour to get a coffee and maybe a sweet treat and then we can head to the park for a stroll and I will give you my long story of why I came home." She announced in her most dramatic way as she looked up at him for a moment, she wanted to go in for a hug, she felt it was weird they hadn't yet hugged but also was keeping her distance better for them right now.

Wrangling children in a studio was one thing, wrangling them out in public was entirely another. Kenzie suddenly didn't envy teachers on field-trips. At least all of the kids she was keeping track of were in a specific costume and that had helped. But the performance had gone smoothly, so she really couldn't complain, and the kids parents had all the collected them to go enjoy the rest of the festival.
Kenzie's hand came up, running through her hair. "Okay, that was slightly more draining that I had expected." She mused, head tilting. "I think I need a little sweet treat."
Darcy had been helping Kenzie with the kids from Slippers since it was her idea for them to perform. She had found that after doing her own performance and dealing with all this kids, she was tired from it but she was so proud of them and happy they got to show off their talent. Darcy laughed at Kenzie's comment and nodded, "Oh gosh it was more draining then expected but was so worth it don't you think?" She smiled. She smiled, "Sweet treats on me, what are you fancying?"

The question caught Xander completely unawares and for a moment, he stared. But then he knocked himself out of it and offered a small smile toward Darcy. "It was nice over by the animal sanctuary stall before it got too busy," he responded. "It's pretty therapeutic, just petting a goat... which I never thought I'd hear myself say." He shook his head. "Your performance was great," he added.
Darcy smiled, "Oh I can imagine that would get extremely busy because everyone loves animals." She giggled over at Xander before nodding, "Oh I need to go pet this goat, my parents were raving about it after my performance more than my own performance." She smiled and nodded, "Thank you, it was really good to get back on stage after so long."
"Exactly that. Even people who are dancing for twenty-four hours need to eat and drink," he said with a soft laugh, knowing that the more that they offered, the easier it would probably be to get people involved, since they would feel taken care of. And everyone wanted that. Cage couldn't imagine performing in front of anyone the way that people like Darcy and his sister did. He did construction, so he supposed there was an extent to which his work was done in public, sure, but not quite the same as someone watching him perform what he loved to do. And he definitely was not wearing a bodysuit and tutu while he nailed together someone's house. Listening intently as Darcy talked about how she had once wanted to dance for a living, how she hadn't gotten the response that she wanted, he nodded his head thoughtfully. "I can understand it, honestly. You work so hard for something and make it your entire life, it's hard to keep the same amount of love for it when it doesn't work out," he said. Cage had lucked out; he had fallen into construction on a whim and everything had fallen into place after that. "I think it's a good spot for you. For now," he said gently, his smile matching the words, "a good landing place where you can still be in and around dance in case that whim ever hits you again, or you get the chance to take the stage as yourself, and not just a teacher, you know?"
Darcy smiled, "Definitely, I think it could be a good idea and a good fundraiser opportunity as well as bringing people together." She smiled, she couldn't believe she had just thought of that all from watching her favourite television show. She nodded, even though there was more to it she didn't feel like discussing that right now. "Yeah it became very disheartening to keep going." She smiled looking over at Cage and nodded, "Yeah I never really thought of that, only that it was the only thing I was capable of doing but I wish I did as that is a good way to look at it." She smiled, "Have you always wanted to do what you do? Or is it just something you fell into?"
"You mean besides that performance?" Zoya twirled the straw in her iced matcha, already buzzing from an inadvisable amount of sweet treats. She couldn't stand still on a good day. Now she was constantly shifting and fiddling. "Has to be getting to see my mom up and about again." She'd been doing better as the warmer weather rolled in. Zoya bit her lip. "That . . . or totally smoking my sister Cornhole."
Darcy blushed at the girls comment and smiled, "Well thank you. I am glad you enjoyed the performance." She smiled, she had chosen a contemporary dance with a good upbeat song so people would enjoy it. "Oh that must be great, how's your mom doing?" She smiled before noddin. She laughed a little, "Wait what did you smoke your sister on?"
One of Stelly's favorite parts of big events in town was getting to see people perform, watching them have a good time -- and seeing how passionate they were about what they were doing, too. Darcy's performance had been no exception, and they grinned when they approached, giving her a playful little clap, "you were great up there!" Not that they had been expecting anything else, of course. "So far? Everything. I kind of wish every day could be Spring Fling, but some of the baked goods that I've tried have been... really, really out of this world, you know? Beyond good."
Darcy was so glad she had put herself forward for this, originally she was just going to choreograph a dance for the students but she had never been more proud of herself. She smiled as she looked up at Stelly and smiled at them, "Thank you, I really appreciate it. It was lovely to perform in front a lot of people who were invested in the performance." She smiled as she looking over at them and nodded, "It looks great here and nice to see it fully packed out. I haven't actually tried any of the baked goods yet, wasn't hungry before my performance. However, I would love something now. What would you recommend?"

There was something about the performances that had Nadine lurking around; the talent displayed by her fellow Merrockites was always special. Putting a piece of themselves out there was something she couldn't find herself doing, at least while attaching her own name, so the least she could do was appreciate those who did. Giving a small smile at the dark-haired woman, she considered the question. "I made flower crowns with my sister, which was pretty fun... Was yours performing, or is that too on the nose?"
Darcy smiled at the women in front of her as she took a sip of her drink that she had in her hands. She smiled, "Oh that is so cute, how did they turn out?" She smiled, she needed to see more what was going on now that her performance was over and she wasn't as nervous as she was before. She smiled and nodded briefly, "I would say so far yeah it was, honestly I haven't performed in so long and it just reminded me why I loved it growing up." She smiled, being on stage then had been a breath of fresh air surprisingly. "I think once I see the kids of slippers perform the dance I taught them, I think it might top it though."
Che liked to watch as many of the other performers as possible, simply to see the talent in town. Sometimes it felt like scoping out competition, but he was too good natured for that. "Well, I got my face painted," he said, gesturing to a small but very glittery butterfly on his cheek. "I wanted to look beautiful, obviously."
Darcy smiled looking over at Che and couldn't help but laugh a little before looking at him for a brief moment as she went to run a hand through her hair but then stopped when she realised it that had more gel in it then ever to keep it in place whilst dancing. She smiled, "I think it suits you. did you get it out of choice or did someone persuade you to get it done?" She giggled although she was very tempted to get her face painted now that she was here.

Darcy had done her performance and it had been a crazy experience and adrenaline rushed performance. It was the first time in a long time that she figured out that she loved performing again after falling out of love with the idea. She had gone past a few people since who had congratulated her on her performance and she smiled and thanked them. With a coffee in her hands she looked at the person who had taken a seat, she smiled, "Tell me, what has been something you have really enjoyed today so far?"
While he didn't expect to see Darcy standing before him, the expectant feelings he usually experienced in her orbit came flooding back. The ping in his heart as it expanded in size, the blood in his veins seeming to surge and rush through his extremities. She had always taken his breath away, his own air hitching in his throat as he took in her sight. His eyes lightly scanned across her features; her eyes catching the light in the way they habitually seemed to- without even trying. He stilled his breathing, tucking the book under his arm. He couldn't help but smile at her. He had wondered ever since they broke up how she was doing, so he was relieved that she at least seemed to be alright now that they had unexpectedly run into each other.
He nodded, "Yeah, I am. I saw a posting online and I applied; I was getting tired of the city and wanted a change, so I came out here... rather spontaneously, which isn't like me, as you know." Will chuckled softly, adding, "Thank you. It's... really nice so far. The town is a lot smaller than I'm used to and I think I'm still finding my sea legs out here but I'm happy about the change." He rocked back on his heels slightly, his eyes following her as she shifted against the fantasy pages. "Oh, you have? So all it took was a break up for me to stop nagging you to finally become a reader?" He teased gently, his tone not malicious or cold, but rather excited that she had picked up his beloved hobby and soft, hoping to cut the tension a bit with a lighthearted joke. "But yeah, I meant in Merrock." He confirmed, cocking a brow. "A long story? I've got time. If you want to tell it, that is." He would be lying if he said he wasn't curious, but he didn't want to pry. The last thing he wanted to do now that they had run into each other was push her away.
Darcy knew a part of her had always wondered and hoped that she would see him again. However, she always thought that would be in the city. Seeing his smile warmed her heart and was definitely infectious, it was the smile that felt like home. She nodded understood being tired of the city. "It is definitely small, being a small town almost everyone knows each other but in a good way." She smiled, "Well if you ever need a tour guide or just a guide, I am happy to offer my services." She smiled.
Hearing his question, she couldn't help but giggle for a moment. "I guess the reading was something I picked up to remain somewhat close to you." She admitted quietly, she knew he was teasing her but the honesty just poured out of her when in front of him. She nodded, "I mean I do want to tell you, but maybe not in the middle of the book shop so if you would like to continue this conversation on a walk or at a coffee shop, I am free to go unless you wanted to continue book shopping." She wanted as much time with him now that she saw him again but honestly, saying everything in the middle of a book shop felt weird.

Katie turned at the sound of the voice. The sanctuary booth had become wonderfully chaotic over the course of the afternoon—kids laughing near the pony rides, dogs sprawled happily beneath shady trees collecting attention from anyone willing to stop, and somewhere behind her, a goat was currently attempting to eat part of the decorative banner.
At Darcy’s excitement, Katie couldn’t help laughing softly. "That is absolutely a bunny over there," she confirmed warmly, brushing her hands against her jeans as she stepped aside a little. "And honestly? She knows she’s cute, which makes her dangerous. You can go say hi if you want. She’s friendly."
Darcy smiled over at the woman, animal's were always a good companion for her even for a short period of time. She laughed a little, "Oh even worse when they know but how could she not know." She smiled and got excited, "Oh I would love that, whats her name?" She smiled over at the bunny, she hadn't seen one in a long time but she was reminded as to why she loved them.

Darcy had about an hour before her performance and she was in her head, she was nervous. She decided to try and stay busy which is why she found herself at the cobblestone cafe's stall. She wasn't getting coffee, that wouldn't help her nerves but she needed to see Yvaine, she had worked on the dance with her so she needed someone who understood her and knew the dance. "Yvaine.... Help. I don't think I am going to be able to do this. I am going to fail it. I am going to mess up the dance." She sighed, she was probably interrupting something important for the girl right now but she was stressed.
