When a family pet dies, it is important that you sit your child down and explain what happened. Although your child will be upset, it is better to be honest with them about the pet's death so they are prepared for getting another pet and this pet eventually passes away.

Make sure not to do your child's homework for them. It can be tempting to give a child the correct answer to a question that should be easy, but they won't ever learn if they don't arrive at the answer by their own merit. Try to guide them gently toward discovering an answer instead.

Provide your child with healthy meals and snacks.

If you have more than one child, spend special time with each of them individually.
