Vent post: why is being upset about not getting feedback/no one wants to interact/comment or even like something you made is being considered entitlement? And it doesn’t help that the content I make are mostly from obscure fandoms with very very rare pairings.

Piece of advice for haters on this blog: how about instead of spending all your time hating on a character or mxtx novels you instead focus on characters you love or stuff you actually love. Because news flash you aren’t gonna convert anyone to your little anti group. People are gonna love whoever they wanna love and you need to learn to move on. It’s a lot more healthier.

I admittedly didn’t go through the notes for this blog all that often up to now, but given people seem to not get memo that we’re not here to discourse with others I’ll pay more attention.

It is really aggravating how the fandom I’m in is slowly splitting into more and more factions because of minor disagreements. It started with two groups, with each group demonizing the other. (And the few people in the middle who were either completely clueless about the situation or had no desire to involve themselves in it. I wish I had stayed in thay middle.)

Now one of the main groups (the one I’m in) has started another argument based on some shota bs or whatever, and I have absolutely no idea which side to take. Accusations are flying, people are making bold statements about who they stand with, and I was following people on both sides.

One of my favorite artists is at the center of the accusations and I don’t know what to do. Everyone is so assured in their ideas and no one is impartial enough to give me nonbiased information.

I’m really freaking out and I don’t know how to deal with all this. We’re all brought together by a love for the same thing so why can’t we all just get along and accept that different people like different things???

So before we move forwards, I’d like to try and understand what exactly you define as ‘canon.’

From my understanding of that post, your definition of ‘canon’ is separate from the fandom’s contributions to it. Whatever is in the text, what the “official” authors put into it, is all that ‘canon’ is. Interpretations that are not explicitly ‘confirmed’ by text - headcanons - do not fit into your definition of ‘canon.’ No matter how much they might be accepted by the people engaging with the work, they are not ‘canon.’

I’ve read it multiple times. I have a good idea of what you’re trying to say. However, it is a position I disagree with. I am not saying you are entitled to agree with my own position. The maxim that “there is nothing outside the text” is patently false. Let’s just put that on the table where we both - sorry, where I - can clearly see it.

Now, rather than type out what has already been typed out, I’m going to be quoting liberally from a conversation I had with a friend [who has elected not be tagged] on the topic of “canon.” [He is the one speaking in the grey bubbles.]

“Canon” is concerned with future installments, and continuity between them.

So to the point that “people still have their own internal canons,” I recognize your right to your canon, one that simply exists as what you are given. I recognize your right to vent your opinions on canon to the Internet. And I hope that your experience with canon is at the very least enjoyable for you.

I strongly disagree with the implication that you have the authority to police how people engage with your content, though I will concede that it is on brand with your views on what constitutes canon.
