BACKGROUND
- Nothing could have ever prepared little Danny Holly for what it was going to be like growing up in Royalty. To have everything he could have ever wanted handed to him on a silver platter, save perhaps the actual honest love and affection of his parents. From that perspective pressure was all heâd ever known. The pressure to be perfect. To sit, stand, talk, eat, perform to the best of his ability in every possible way. They were raising him to be an heir and anything less than perfect was punished. Even in childhood play, when heâd find himself in a tussle with Harvey, his father would come back with but you showed him whoâs boss right? Didnât matter that they were 4 and arguing over whoâs truck belonged to who, or who Elaine Archer would decide to pay attention to. As far as David Holly was concerned, there had to be a clear winner, and in his mind that had to be Danny. Which wasnât a responsibility he was totally unfamiliar with considering heâd been informed at an even younger age that with the coming of Donny came his first run in with responsibility. As soon as he was old enough to understand speech he was being reminded of his responsibility to look after his brother. A task that many years later he would find himself coming to resent as he started coming into his own as his fathers son. - Because of his upbringing, Danny has consistently struggled with showing face. With letting others see who he really is. Often times heâs more likely to put up a front than be honest about what heâs thinking or feeling. Always calculating his next move. Unfortunately this didnât always win him points with the locals. Throughout high school Danny found a way to rub Freyja the wrong way, made a point of continuously trying to win the heart of one Elaine Archer, loathed both the Russell boys with everything fiber of his being, made nice with the Jackson girls, had a full blown incident with Alice & Lux, further developed his hatred for Zev and Harvey, dismissed Mac like he was a scuff on his shoe, tolerated and maybe even liked Libby and Maddie, and on the rare occasion was a little more than your typical kind of friendly with Kitty Maddox. But to describe any of those interactions as real? It couldnât be done. -But the reality of his other options were way worse. As much as Danny disliked the majority of the gang, he couldnât be someone who was considered a loner. His father would never allow it. So he faked it. He forced his way into their group, dangled his brother in front of them like a bonus prize, while constantly managing to treat the younger boy as less than all the way up through the end of high school. When the time finally came for him to be an adult and leave the world of childish bullshit behind, he wasnât sure heâd be able to do it, but itâs been a conscious effort. Danny wants to try and turn over a new leaf, but he feels heâs gotten so good at being the perfect son his fathers always wanted that he no longer knows how to be anything else.
