It is not with any great pride that Dal chooses to darken the fishermanās doorstep for a second time. Indeed, showing up where he had faced failure before is a joyless affair. The seaside winds are stronger than the breezes of the mountains and the scent of salt in the air aggressive. Dal feels he stands out like a aching thumb, pained and as red as his robes all in their boastful scarlets, nor had he managed to act the part of casual visitor even once since he had come flitting about the harbour. Since he had been turned away, his attempts to come asking after a certain someone with whom he had certain issues foiled far more quickly than he had expected, he had taken his time to wait about the harbour, to listen and to hopefully learn from the fisherman at the dock. Listening had, after all, proven more useful than asking. All that had achieved was questions being thrown back his way and it had made him quite cross. Rumour floats about the island like gentle sea-foam and Dal has long believed that he who listens well will soon learn what nobody tells him. Dal waits on his target, standing by the doorway of the hut of a fisherman heād had to pay to keep him from complaining about it. Granted, he hadnāt so much paid the man as he had shoved the coins into his hand and ordered him to be quiet but Dal is not one to get caught up in the details --- not when it doesnāt suit him to do so, at least.

His speech is clear and even, retaining not a drop of the aggression of before. He had allowed his status to make him ignorant and clumsy, and he had spoken too rashly before.Ā It is little surprise that he had left empty-handed. hello again! it took a little longer than planned (as in waaaaaaay longer) but hereās the character intro post as promised! hopefully, thisāll help you learn a little about dal! since i already linked my app before, this wonāt really be a post that deals with his plotline/backstory (although i think i might up a longer post at some point that handles that in more detail) but just a list of dal trivia & personality traits! anything i think of, iāll likely just share as its own post. this stuff will mostly be common knowledge so, if you want to reference it in a thread, feel free to do so! i kinda see dal as the kind of guy whoās a lil mysterious and a touch enigmatic without actually being at all secretive because heās also a bit of a showoff---Ā notice me and acknowledge me but donāt actually look at me for more than six seconds straight or else iāll curbstomp you >:3c
this is just a little technical note to start with: white tigers are really just the result of a pigment mutation and not an actual breed of tiger but, since white tigers are considered sacred in certain mythology, iām treating the spirits as their own deal. as far as i know, white tigers in the wild are super rare and most of the ones in captivity were bred that way through inbreeding. dal, as a spirit, is more based on the concept of the celestial White Tiger (BĆ”i HĒ/Byakko/Baekho) but he isnāt actually THE White Tiger....if that makes sense lmao
his nickname (dal, of course) doesnāt actually bare ANY resemblance to his true name but he was titled for the legendary white tiger of legendās relation to the moon. his true name is karam, meaning river, because he was born and raised...beside the river...
heās one of lord tagonās personal guards. he sees this as a terribly important job and will not fail to make it known. some might think he cares more about feeling important than the significance of the post itself but he actually puts his whole being into his work and takes it very seriously. the protection of the farmers is something he also sees as important but he isnāt especially good at keeping up relations with them. dal tends to keep most of the villagers at armās length, partly bc heās a shit and partly bc he doesnāt know what to do with them, but he wonāt turn anybody away if approached. sometimes heās just...a little patronising about it.
dal is dramatic. this bullet point could easily be left as is, nothing more said, but yeah, dal is dramatic. perhaps even overdramatic at times. he manages to strike a balance between imposing and showy when he needs to but heās still a bit of a showoff at heart and he likes to make sure his feelings are known, even if heās over-exaggerating. he can also be a bit blunt and very brusque. this makes him seem as though he might be a cold person but he mostly doesnāt think before he talks. but not because heās easily distracted or verbally impulsive, he just doesnāt believe he needs to think first around most people. that sort of foresight is reserved for people more powerful and important than him!!
as stated in the app, heās a bit of a trickster. this behaviour tends to be reserved for people who canāt get him back in some way because, as much as immediate threat doesnāt seem to bother him, heās a bit of a coward when it comes to petty revenge. planned threat, designed to foil him? now thatās spooky! his trickery is never too harmful or serious because heās not a total bastard but heās usually less gentle about if youāve pissed him off as some point. the easiest way to piss him off, for the record, is to make a fool of him or embarrass him. or muss him up. Do Not!!
his favourite food is all seafood. especially fish. he grew up eating fish from rivers and considers them to have a nostalgic taste but ocean fish are the real winners. dal doesnāt warm to people all that easily but, much like an npc from [insert harvest moon, stardew valley or your favourite calming job-simulator game here], hand him a fish a day for a long enough period and he might just grow fond of you (bonus points for actual cooked dishes). but i mean heās also that npc whoās rude to you the whole time, right up until he decides to have a change of heart, so itās really up to you if you wanna pursue that,,,
you may notice there are certain points in dalās backstory that are just vague bc he doesnāt remember and i want to clarify that, obvious issues with giving up his true name and losing his rights to his free identity aside, uhhhh...dal gives zero shits!! asdfghjhgfds basically, if heās decided itās not that big a deal to him for whatever reason, heās not gonna remember much of it unless he really makes himself try. heās not the kinda guy who dwells on the past very much because heās usually way too focused on what heās doing in the present. the logic is half lmao thatās boring, iām changing the subject and half uhhhhhh, why would i waste time thinking abt whatās already happened when i could just use that energy on being more interesting right now, dumbass.Ā a lot of important things did happen when he was younger and thatās why the recollection is murky in those areas. remembering your very early childhood when it happened 250+ years is a big ask.
heās a bit of a solitary guy but not by design. dal grew up alone for the most part so heās just not really all that used to having people around. he doesnāt go out of his way to isolate himself or anything like that but he doesnāt enjoy having too many people around. too noisy. too overwhelming. dude needs his space.
i havenāt worked out any basic wanted plots or connections yet so iāll work on that as soon as i can! for now, the only connection that comes to mind would be for an entirely new character so iāll leave it for when i finish up the proper page!
