I noticed a common misconception with Sagittarius is that people think a lot of their actions are random and made on a whim. They aren’t. Sagittarius is a fire sign and ruled by Jupiter, a very exaggerating planet, but thoughtless impulsivity is not a typical sagittarian trait, even when it might seem like it at first glance. Sagittarius is very cerebral, its fire is more controlled and mindful - it has to be at the end of autumn, its season, otherwise it would go out. The sagittarian mind is quick and intuitive, not orderly and structured as an earth sign’s, but nevertheless aware and active. Decision-making can be quick, but rarely is it completely thoughtless. Sagittarius loves to use its mind and loves to play around with the meaning of things, experiences, actions; what they do and say can seem random at first due to the exaggerating (Jupiter) nature of how they do things feeling unfamiliar and with that akin to randomness, or because they don’t explain how they came to a conclusion they blurted out, but their fiery nature simply makes them that flashy and it makes their mind race that quickly. Even decisions made on the ground of apathy or nonchalance are consciously and decisively apathetic/nonchalant. The expansive, always-look-to-the-horizon nature of this sign immediately responds to stimulation by mentally exploring that stimulation further. The archer symbolism describes their focus, their awareness and their fire shows the quickness and vibrancy in their behaviour - both not really traits associated with control and thoughtfulness -, while Jupiter provides the vast playground and mobility on which they operate, but Jupiter is also stable and conscious. The myth of Sagittarian impulsivity is fostered by other people’s inability to look behind the scenes, but to the Sagittarius itself most everything makes perfect sense and is perfectly thought out.
