🚨This is a Red Alert for net neutrality 🚨
Last December, the FCC voted to to kill net neutrality. If we do not take action, this will kill the free and open internet as we know it. The internet needs you—all of you—to make sure your voices are heard NOW.
We need all hands on deck for this one. It may be our last chance. If you’re feeling under-informed and overwhelmed about why net neutrality is so incredibly important, we have this handy guide just for you.
Here’s what you can do to save the internet:
In mid-May, the Senate will vote on a resolution to overrule the FCC using the Congressional Review Act (CRA). We only need one more vote in the Senate to win. Write or call your Senators or Representatives. You can also text BATTLE to 384-387 to get more information on how to write to your reps. You can do this, Tumblr.
Join us and dozens of your other favorite companies like Etsy, Vimeo, Reddit, and GitHub to raise awareness with the Red Alert campaign being run by Battle for the Net. Just add this small widget to your Tumblr to let your followers know how they can contact their reps. It’s as easy as copying and pasting the small line of code right into the customize theme page on the web.
This is important. This matters. It’s up to you to help.
Without Net Neutrality, we lack equal access to information.

On my Sunday jog, i noticed Edison School on Fernside was fenced. Interesting. For months i’ve noticed this school is accessible to public on weekends, while most West End schools are fenced off.

The first time I was called ‘Nigger’
One of my earliest memories of Alameda was first time someone called me a "Nigger." I was a first grader. I was playing outside our apartment on Central Ave when a white boy kept calling me Nigger, like an incantation.
I don't think i fully understood the word or its history, but I was upset, even angry. But I did what many little prepubescent Black boys would do: I went home and told my mama.
Mom listened to me, as i probably talked a mile a minute, trying to explain what happened and maybe why i felt so upset. She calmed me down and consoled me. Then, she told me to go back outside. But first she armed me with ammunition, a list of words i could use–"Cracker", "honky", "ofay", "redneck", "white trash", etc.–for when i encountered the boy again.
When the kid called me Nigger again (of course, he couldn't help himself, i'm sure) I unleashed my laundry list of insults.
So, he went and told his mama. His mother came to our house and told my mama. Moms told her the backstory, and had some words about her, you know, raising a racist and all.
When i think back my first known encounter with racism–at least a slur–i always wonder: why didn't i whoop dude? (i later did, a couple times, but for somewhat unrelated reasons). Also, in hindsight, I don't really recall ever being called Nigger again.
So, the only time someone ever called me Nigger, i learned that crackers hate being called peckerwoods! Ruffles the feathers.
