Pallid bats are speciliazed in hunting ground-dwelling arthropods such as scorpions and centipedes. They track their brey staying close to the ground and listening for their quarry's footsteps. They also have immunity to scorpion venom strong enough to kill humans.

Bats' wings are actually modified arms and hands, with the wing membrane stretched between their elongated finger bones and the rest of their arm.

The Pipistrellus etula is the most recently discovered bat species, having been announced on September 30th, 2025.

The oldest bat skeleton we know of dates back over 52 million years!

Tadarida brasiliensis aka the mexican/brazilian free-tailed bat is pound-for-pound the fastest animal on earth. It can fly at speeds of 100 mph.
