artist tips
don’t save as jpeg
as a former yearbook editor and designer, let me explain this further
if youre only planning on posting your art online, them please save it as .png ;this is also better for transparencies as well
BUT
please, if youre planning of printing your art, NEVER use png. it makes the quality of the image pretty shitty. use jpeg or pdf instead. and always set your work at 300dpi to get a better printing quality - this means, the images are crisper and sharper and theres no slight blurriness. i had a talk with my friend who is currently taking design, and pdf is much better to use when youre working with a bigger publishing company because it still has the layers intact, but if youre only planning on printing your stuff at staples or at some small publishing store, the jpeg is the way to go.
this has been a public service announcement
Want a good picture to save as? PNG
Want a good printed picture? JPEG
If you were ever wondering how I get the colors in some of my pieces, this is my secret (and now, not so secret) method.

BIG REMINDER if you’re ever looking for a tablet with a screen you can draw on Parblo and Huion are your best bests. They’re cheaper that Waccom and Don’t break as fast. I have a parblo 10 tablet, it was $220, and roughly the same size as a small cintiq that would be like 1k. It works perfectly fine, and fits comfortably in my lap, which I like. While there are others more expensive for $400+ I got this for it being cheap, and smaller. Parblo tablet Huion tablet Other Huion Tablet
don’t bother with Waccom, honestly. You can get cheaper tablets that work better and won’t break as fast.Think of it like an iphone vs a smartphone. iphone is more expensive, does the same shit as a smartphone, but overheats more. all it does is have a slightly better aesthetic and charge you up the butt. New to digital art and want a tablet but poor af? TADA!! (pls buy from newegg they’re a good company) Bam $30 tablet Bam $26 tablet
(keep in mind the super cheap ones are very tiny) and they wont be THE BEST, obviously but they work for what they do and its a good way to step your foot in the waters of digital art without spending $100
Need some free programs? Firealpaca Its like sai but easier to get lmao Gimp Its like Photoshop but easier to get Krita Its like a mix of the two And a free 100% legal copy of Adobe Flash, its an older version.
You seriously do not need to spend thousands to be the BEST artist. Use what you can, and hone your craft. You using firealpaca and a $26 tablet? Do it! You make art!! Destroy the idea only “good” artist use waccom products and photoshop. Seriously, just buy what you’re able and use free source programs. Heck for 5 years I drew with ONLY a mouse.
