...I edited this cap. But I would love a fic from you about the heart eyes this man is giving. He's so besotted. Jeez. Thanks!
The candlelight was unfair.
Sophie decided that at once.
It softened everything, the sharp lines of the room, the worn edges of borrowed silk, even the uncertainty that still lingered at the edges of her new life. It turned the world into something gentler, something almost dreamlike.
And it made Benedict look at her like that.
“Stop,” she murmured, though she did not move away.
“I’ve done nothing,” he replied, far too innocently.
“You’re doing it now.”
His lips curved, but he didn’t deny it. If anything, his gaze only deepened, warm, intent, utterly unguarded. As though there were no society to answer to, no expectations waiting beyond the door. Only her.
Only Sophie.
“I cannot seem to help myself,” he said quietly. “I have just realised, quite inconveniently, that I am actually going to marry you.”
She huffed a soft laugh, though her cheeks warmed. “You have known that for some time. You asked me…”
“Yes, but I had not yet appreciated the full consequence of it.”
“And what consequence is that, Mr Bridgerton?” She asked trying not to panic.
He leaned closer then, close enough that his voice dropped into something softer, something meant only for her.
“That I shall spend the rest of my life looking at you and thinking, how did I come to be so fortunate?”
Sophie’s breath caught, just slightly. It still startled her, how easily he said such things. How simply he offered them, as though they were facts rather than feelings.
“You exaggerate,” she whispered.
“Never about you.”
His hand lifted, hesitant only for a moment before brushing a loose strand of hair back from her face. The touch was light, reverent, like he was still learning the shape of her, still marvelling that he was allowed.
And there it was again.
That look.
Soft. Entirely too fond. A little bit awed.
“Benedict,” she said, almost a warning.
“Yes my love?”
“You are doing it again.”
“Doing what?”
She swallowed, unable to quite meet his eyes now. “Looking at me as though I am… something extraordinary.”
His answer came without pause.
“You are.”
The simplicity of it undid her far more than any grand declaration could have.
For a moment, neither of them spoke. The quiet settled around them, warm and close, like the glow of the candles themselves.
Then Benedict smiled, slow, helpless, completely besotted and, despite herself, Sophie smiled back.
Unfair, she thought again.
But perhaps… not altogether unwelcome.
i'm just imagining, for a while after the Queen's Ball, the Bridgertons keep finding Sophie doing jobs around the house. And at first they try and stop her, but then they realise that it's hard for her to break from her routine straight away.
So maybe they start to join her. Colin and Gregory join her when she's in the kitchens (with a very wary Mrs Wilson watching over them) and attempt to help her cook (they mainly just eat the food).
When Sophie's mending or sewing clothes, Hyacinth and Francesca keep her company. Francesca watches how she sews, and after a while, lends a hand whilst Hyacinth gives her opinion on fabric types and colours.
If she's in the garden, Eloise will often accompany her, either to read aloud from a book they both enjoy or to learn about the different plants they have. When he's visiting from Aubrey House, Anthony will make an appearance in the gardens whenever Sophie is there. The conversation is stilted at first, and the lengthy pauses border on awkward, but after a month or two, they start to find common interests.
Violet does keep Sophie company when she can. However, most of the time, when she (or Mrs Wilson) notices Sophie working, she'll give her children a little nudge to make sure that Sophie isn't by herself.

Did Pen really choose to write so much about the Bridgertons in Whistledown or did she kind of have to constantly write about them because they’re the messiest bitches in the ton?

Cressida met her husband, Lord Penwood, because he was reading a report on fashion trends out of Paris and they bonded over their shared love for avant garde design.
You take one look at that little man and his giant pink frills and tell me he and Cressida DIDN’T spend the whole carriage ride from Wales coordinating their looks.
They are, in my mind, the textbook definition of a lavender marriage. Lord Penwood, terrified of being unable to navigate society without bringing ruin and scandal to his family name, is finally given the courage and opportunity to return when he finds a woman who is not only brave and outgoing, but also not in the least bit interested in sleeping with him.
“Are you prepared to see her again?” he asks as they prepare for the ball.
Cressida clutches his hand tightly, her heart jumps nearly to her throat at the thought of encountering Eloise again.
I just lost it when Violet was explaining Ben the repercussions of marrying Sophie when she was like you would not be able to join us in weddings, birthdays and funerals
Ma'am your viscount son and duchess daughter does not join you either. 😂😂

Something I enjoyed so much about season four was how much Benedict and Sophie clearly enjoy being in each other’s company. The way they just match each other’s energy and are constantly smiling when they are together shows how well situated they are for each other.
Their relationship isn’t just a passing flirtation or only sexual tension (which they got that too for sure), but they like being around each other and that makes it believable that they are meant to spend the rest of their lives together.
Still playing around with this.
Kate is learning how to keep a quiet but watchful eye on the family at these events.
She regrets missing the queen's ball last season, and certainly regrets being absent in supporting Benedict and Sophie.
Anthony, too, wishes they had been in tow. Between John's death and Benedict's struggles, she knows he feels deeply guilty.
When they'd shown up a few days early at My Cottage for the wedding, the two brothers had been cold towards each other, which had been deeply troubling to Kate. They had always been the best of friends, and for them to be so unhappy with each other just felt wrong.
Colin had come to the rescue two nights before the wedding, with two bottles of scotch and a promise to have them sorted out by daylight. While there had been much yelling (and possibly a drunken tussle at some point), the third Bridgerton brother had made good on that promise. And while the two older brothers emerged deeply hungover, they were yet again the best of friends.
As Kate looks over the sizable crowd out in the back of Bridgerton house, she spots the two men chatting together. Anthony reaches out to poke at Benedict's now clean-shaven face and Benedict whacks his hand away and they both laugh.
