As I've gotten older, one of the coolest things IMO that Mother 3 has is that the game is that the game was written in a way where only enough information presented in the game to make your own personal assessment about several things, without knowing definitively what the case is.
Flint is probably the best example of this I think, since it's up the player's interpretation on how he was with Lucas, he could have been very supportive of Lucas, or rather distant. No one can say for sure.
Personally, given that Lucas is right away shown as capable and pragmatic as soon as you start playing as him in chapter 4, that implies to me that Flint had to have had been supportive of Lucas off-screen to some extent before then for Lucas to be as strong as he is immediately (not to mention other details like how the family house is in prefect condition despite being constantly struck by lightning, indicating Flint was always home repairing it). But that's the beauty of having writing like that, I can write out my interpretation, and it may be wildly different to someone else's, while simultaneously still working what's presented within the game. That's good writing right there.
Most importantly, even though two or more people can have a very different interpretation of these things, they can bring people together from different walks of life to discuss these things. And connecting with others over a story in a game is what's most important, right?
But yeah, I think Flint is the best example of this with Mother 3. Maybe he was a good parent, maybe he wasn't, maybe he's also Ness too lol (which is a whole seperate tangent that opens up some really interesting thematic analysis and subtext, but that can come some other day).
Sorry to ask Mr DaEgg, but do you know where the new EB64 server is if one has been made?
There isn't a new one, nor will I make a new one. But, the 2021-2026 server will return sometime… I can promise that much.

Hi Jonathan!
I noticed a few days ago that SnowWood delisted their Earthbound 64 recreation videos on YouTube. I haven’t seen any explanation from SnowWood as to why this was done.
Do you happen to know anything about the situation?
This isn't the first time she's unlisted and privated a number of her videos. I would imagine it has to do with some personal stuff with her, that I would like to be respectful of and not pursue any further. I'm sure she'll relist everything at some point.
So long as Mother 3 remains relevant on the internet, I doubt people will stop highlighting the 'Hot Spring scene', so I may as well post here something of intrigue:
The scene as it was presented with the screen going to black and Lucas having his head held underwater to unlock his PSI powers, was a late addition to the game's story.
Sprites exist of Lucas being zapped while in the water, collapsing deeper into it for a few seconds, then emerging out.
Given that PSI abilities are shown to be awakened through lighting strikes more than one other time during the game… there really is no other explanation as to what those unused Lucas graphics were intended for.
So, what does this all mean?
1. Given that Flint being cut from the chapter 4 party was relatively early in the GBA version's development, it means the way the Hot Spring scene in the final game occurs, and Flint being present to witness it, was never something that coexisted at any point during development.
2. Given that the Magifolk were all redesigned (more than once) and their final designs were probably only implemented around the same time as Flint getting cut… the scene as it occurs in the final game, only ever existed with Ionia's final design (I know this point may be confusing so if anyone needs further clarification or context on this, feel free to ask me)
3. Itoi (or possibly a different developer) must have specifically requested the way Lucas unlocked his PSI powers to be rewritten after having already come up with an idea that was to be utilised, that already had graphics drawn for it… and if they went out of their way to change something they already had that would have worked adequately, it must mean they felt the 'new' way of having it happen must have been worth portraying. You don't scrap already adequate work without good reason, no?
Mother 3 seemed to have a lot of 'last-minute' changes, that perhaps wouldn't have been the way they are had the GBA game come out in October 2005 as planned initially. Who knows?
you do gotta love this creature
MOTHER3 20TH
After 12 years of development across a number of consoles, different titles, changing looks, and even a cancellation... A strange, funny, and heartrending finally came out on this day 20 years ago.
Happy 20th Birthday, Mother 3. May the world learn from what you have to say.

I know it's probably pretty silly to be upset about "fairness" regarding these video game series's, but I think using Sonic's inclusion in Puyo Puyo Tetris 2S (a game where he doesn't even appear in the story mode) as a selling point, while simultaneously not having *any* Puyo Puyo representation in Sonic Racing Crossworlds despite there being lots of other Sega (and even non-Sega) characters as playable, is… not a great choice I think
Thank you, Sonic Team and Sega, for the step in the right direction.

Some fun trivia regarding Flint in chapter 4:
If you hack your party in Mother 3 to have Flint and Lucas & Boney as per what was planned in pre-release:
• The game doesn't soft-lock, once. Putting incorrect party members in place via hacking in chapter 4 onwards tends to cause soft-locks, but Flint in chapter 4 will not cause any issues.
• As a result, even though a couple of cutscenes look a bit broken, the game will progress normally despite this. Flint will disappear after the shower discussion scene, but will reappear once you regain control. After the hot spring scene, it takes about 15 seconds or so before you regain control, but no other issues besides that.
• If Flint is on the second slot and Boney is on the third, Boney behaves normally and still says all his lines he normally does (such as before the hot spring scene), with ONE exception. Flint will say Boney's line (and stand in Boney's spot) after the DCMC finish their performance of King P's theme, and Boney reappears after the player regains control.
• Flint can equip various equipment that Lucas can also equip, including the sticks Lucas uses.
• The only unused graphic that the game calls into use if you have Flint hacked in, is of Flint dodging the train with Lucas. The game doesn't know what to do with the third party member though, and the train phases over Boney :(
• While I did mention before the game doesn't soft-lock at all, there is one optional exception that can cause a softlock. If you actually got hit by the train, the game will bug out. So… just don't get hit.
If you want more trivia regarding the battle-side of things for Flint in chapter 4, I recommend reading the pinned comment on this old video of mine. It was written by GGFan, who's someone who knows Mother 3's gameplay mechanics back to front. https://youtu.be/MCFBMSAAL7E
So, this is all to say: While the majority of any game logic and whatnot regarding Flint being in your party on chapter 4 was overwritten in the final game, there's still bits and pieces leftover, and not only that, but hacking him in still somehow works despite everything. Can't say the same thing about chapter 5 though, unfortunately.
