“Primal Matter” performance dimitris papaioannou

The drawing depicted is an adaptation of the Vitruvian Man, a famous illustration created by Leonardo da Vinci around 1490. The original drawing explores the ideal proportions of the human body, based on the studies of the Roman architect Vitruvius, who described the proportions of the male body in his treatise "De Architectura".

The human figure is inscribed in a circle and a square, symbols representing the divine and matter, respectively. This combination illustrates the Renaissance search for harmony between the microcosm (man) and the macrocosm (the universe), reflecting the belief that man is the measure of all things and that his proportions reflect those of the universe.

The Vitruvian Man is considered a canon of proportions, an ideal model for the human being, whose proportions are perfect according to the classical ideal of beauty. The drawing is one of the most iconic works of the Renaissance, representing the union between art, science and mathematics.

Textiles by Koloman Moser.In 1903, Moser (1868 - 1918) and his colleague Josef Hoffmann founded Wiener Werkstätte, whose studios and artisans produced a number of aesthetically and functionally designed household goods, including glassware, silverware, rugs and textiles. In 1905, together with the Klimt group, he separated from the Vienna Secession. The same year, he married Editha von Markhof, the daughter to one of Austria’s great industry fortunes. In 1907 Moser, due to internal conflicts and as his plans for reorganisation withdrew from the Wiener Werkstätte. Koloman was one of the designers for Austria’s leading art journal Ver Sacrum.
