His Princess and His Queen

I can not stress this enough.

For your baby/little/kitty, play time is a very exhausting experience; not just physically (as any good session should) but emotionally, it can be crippling.

A good friend/kitten referred to it as “sub drop” and as the names implies, she crashes after deep emotionally touching sessions. Some of you may know exactly what I am talking about and others may not; so, I shall explain a little more in detail.

Have you ever been in a “fight or flight” situation? You knees shake, your hands tremble, everything slows down and you become hyper-acute?

That is the wonder of adrenaline. It gives us the ability to run faster, track multiple targets with accuracy and fight well beyond our physical means. When the threat is gone, the body has to re-absorb this adrenaline.

For some, they become fatigued, tired, listless. Others become agitated, scared, anxious or even abusive. The same happens to your little.

After a long session, she needs to be comforted, brought back from the edge as it were. Remember, she just had the equivalent of an hour long (I say hour because it should never be shorter than that) fight; physically and emotionally.

Some littles tap into deeply repressed emotional ties, things they knew but forgot or just never shared. She is trusting you to not only understand the drain on her; but, to help her back on her feet.

Wind down with a massage, a hot bath, simple caressing, brushing, order Chinese and snuggle in front of the TV with cartoons on. Stories are also a great way to come back from that space. Make something up, make her giggle, be silly with her.

Aftercare should be at least equal to playtime and it doesn’t hurt to go over. Who doesn’t like spending time with their littles?
