Up in Flames

The heroes had lost. Everyone could see it crystal clear now that Tomura Shigaraki was seconds away from wiping out the city with a single hand, along with all the heroes around. The one battle that they couldn’t afford to lose was going to end with dust. There would be nothing left.

In Hawks’ mind, he had it coming. He had failed to finish his mission properly, getting overwhelmed by his emotions when the moment came to betray Twice. He had failed to save his colleagues. He had failed to kill Dabi, the man he loved and who now wanted him dead. He had given up on the one thing that brought a genuine smile on his face.

As Shigaraki lowered himself to the ground, seconds away from using his decaying power, Hawks for the first time, resigned himself to die. There wasn’t anything left he could do.

At least, he thought so until a wave of heat and blue flames erupted around him.

The strangest thing was, it didn’t burn.

Hawks was a hero. The Commission dictated his every move and he knew he was nothing more than a tool to them, but it was fine. He still helped people and beat up villains. He even got to work with Endeavor, the hero he admired most. But when he finds himself having to take care of a younger version of one of the most wanted criminals in Japan, Hawks’ ideals start to crumble.

Hawks never had anything that was his. He had to give everything up to become the hero the Commission wanted him to be, and he was okay with that. At least, that’s what he always told himself. He felt guilty though, and selfish. Because he never truly gave up on everything. There was one thing he didn’t want to have taken away from him: his soulmate.

Dabi had left his old life behind. The person he used to be was dead, and he had been the one to kill him, without any remorse. Trusting and loving people had brought him to the brink of death, but now he was a completely different person. He wouldn’t make the same mistakes again. But there was one thing he had trouble getting rid of: his soulmate.
