Needless to say, no matter what corner of the fandom you’re from, most of us are dissatisfied with this movie, particularly with how it ended. 

I don’t think I need to go into detail about what parts were the most insulting and disrespectful to most of us—Ben Solo’s death and Rey Palpatine/Rey Skywalker, the Stormpilot queer-baiting, & the side-lining of Kelly Marie Tran. 

What Disney cares about is money. Boycotting all avenues that give them money is how we make some noise. As well as causing a raucous on social media.  But it should be done in an organized fashion to get their attention. 

Stage 1: Everyone who is subscribed to Disney + cancels their membership together on a particular day (we can decide what day). It HAS to be before the last episode of the Mandalorian is aired otherwise they can justify it like “Oh they’re only canceling cause they’re done watching the Mandalorian.”

No, it has to be before the season finale of the Mandalorian. And we have to list the reason we’re canceling it as “Because Ben Solo was killed off.” And if we all do it together on a particular day, that will really get their attention.

Stage 2: Return any merchandise you’ve bought or gifts you’ve received recently. Doesn’t matter if it’s Star Wars or not….if Disney profits from it, return it. This includes Star Wars, Marvel, Pixar films, or any recently bought merchandise related to any Disney movies & characters. 

Stage 3: If you don’t have a twitter, make one. On New Year’s Day we tag all of the important accounts and include these hashtags to get them trending: #BenSoloDeservedBetter #BringBackBenSolo #BenSoloLives #TheRiseOfBenSolo #BoycottDisney  And we briefly describe why this matters to us. 

Stage 4: Letter writing to DLF….We all write detailed letters about why the character was important to us and why we found this ending disappointing and harmful to our mental health. And that we will no longer be supporting Disney until they change this. 

Last but not least….remain CONSISTENT with these convictions until Disney changes something. None of this matters if it’s all just empty threats. 

Lizzie: Come with you? Now? Why on earth-

Darcy: Because I need you, Bennet. I need you to come with me.

Lizzie: Darcy...

There’s nothing ‘empowering’ about forced pregnancy or parenthood - no matter what ‘pro-life feminists’ tell you. 

Georgiana: You were hitting on Lizzy.

Darcy: So? She's my wife!

Because of this image from SWCC there are a lot of comparisons between Darcy and Kylo aesthetic, but besides this, is there any other parallel worth to mention? In my opinion the answer is YES.

Darcy is probably one of the most romantic characters ever and I see a lot of similarities with Kylo Ren:

They are both coming from an important family, they are seen as nobles or princes.

Both of them are arrogant

Both of them though, are softer when they have to speak with Lizzie/Rey (Kylo says PLEASE to Rey!)

And they share style!

Now let’s go with the analysis:

Of course in the case of Star Wars we’re talking about a space opera and Pride and Prejudice is set in the XIX century. However, We can see a similar structure on how Kylo/Rey and relationship Darcy/Elizabeth have been built till now. Be aware I’m talking only about the “arc” of the relationship and not about the nature of the relationship itself:

* FIRST ACT:When They first met, they have the same arrogant attitude. Darcy doesn’t want to dance with Elizabeth (she’s not enough handsome for him) in the case of Kylo (I can take whatever I want)… we can agree this isn’t the best introduction.

* SECOND ACT: when they propose, Darcy proposes marriage to Lizzie and Kylo proposes to rule the galaxy to Rey, but what it is even more important is HOW they propose, both of them object about their origins/families ( “you are nothing” says Kylo, “the inferiority of your birth” says Darcy). And un both cases they are rejected.

* THIRD ACT: yet to see, but in Pride and Prejudice we have Darcy, redeeming himself to be worthy of Lizzie’s love, and I hope that will happen with Kylo and Rey

So I hope Kylo can become more Darcy in The Rise of Skywalker

BONUS EYES: In Pride and Prejudice Darcy says ““I have been meditating on the very great pleasure which a pair of fine eyes in the face of a pretty women can bestow.” In The Last Jedi, Luke says to Rey “you opened yourself to the darkside for a pair of pretty eyes.“

Darcy: I think I’m in love.

Elizabeth: *stands up to him and his fugly aunt*

Darcy: Ooh, I am definitely in love.

Darcy: *proposes*

TROS SPOILERS AHEAD

Ben held Rey in his arms, breathing deeply, hoping, praying it would work. With each passing moment it seemed as though it were more and more unlikely, that she would never wake up.

But then he felt her touch his hand. He felt her breathe once again, and he let out a sob as she looked up at him, eyes misty with tears and full of a million emotions he could never hope to decipher.

She leaned forward and kissed him, and suddenly all was right. He held onto her, kissing her deeply, knowing that he had finally found what he wanted in life—Rey, in his arms, like this, for eternity.

They broke apart and he felt himself fading, but Rey gripped him in her arms, refusing to let him go right now. It hadn’t been long enough. Not now. Not ever.

They held onto each other, forming a lifeline. Both barely alive yet full of life at the same time, the force healing flowing equally between them as long as they stayed together.

Rey tried to stand but doubled over as soon as she did, almost losing her grip on Ben’s hand, and so they stayed, tangled together, waiting for someone to find them.

And someone did. When Finn and Poe showed up they helped them to their feet, Poe carefully supporting Ben, Finn supporting Rey, and Ben and Rey still locked tight holding onto each other’s hand. They made it to a ship large enough for them to sit together, and Finn and Poe went to go back to their respective ships.

“Wait!” called Rey, weekly.

Poe turned around, nodding for a response.

“Someone has to bring back Luke’s X-Wing. I can’t lose the last pieces of him.”

Ben squeezed her hand in agreement.

Poe nodded again. “As Acting General of Leia Organa, I will bring her brother’s X-Wing back safely.”

And he was gone, and all the remaining resistance pilots were flying back home, and Rey was forcing herself to stay awake, alive, while Ben was falling asleep in her arms, exhaustion catching up as they held onto the force for dear life. They finally made it home, and someone helped them to a bed in the hospital, where they both were attached to countless tubes and wires and fell asleep, still holding onto each other.

When Rey awoke she saw Ben was already awake beside her. She felt more strength than she had had before, all these medical professionals had obviously done their job by attaching these wires to her arm. So she left them alone, turning to look at Ben instead. He was still gripping her hand tightly, his skin pale as a ghost.

“I’m scared to let you go.” His voice shook as he spoke, and she leaned forward to rest her head on his shoulder. He finally lessened his grip on her hand, and she let go the rest of the way to give him a proper hug, which he returned, though more timid, softer than her needy grip on his back.

She hugged tighter, edging him towards hugging her back with the same force, but he just squeezed her shoulder once, still holding on gently, caressing her back with a softness she didn’t realize he had.

“You won’t hurt me, Ben.”

He looked into her eyes. “Ren would have.”

She shook her head. “You never wanted to hurt me. You never did it because you wanted to, you did what you had to to fulfill the destiny you thought you had to achieve. But now that you know the truth, you would never even dare. I am not afraid of you.”

She kissed him again, more passionately than before, pushing him back down onto the bed. He kissed her back, full of longing and regret for all the lost time of fighting and hatred.

They were interrupted by a cough, as a nurse had come into the room to check on them. They broke apart, Rey giving a nervous laugh as Ben’s cheeks turned red. The nurse told them that they were both alright, both just needed rest, but that they were free to go. And after they were both carefully disconnected from the wires that had kept them alive overnight, they walked hand in hand back to Rey’s quarters, ignoring most people who tried to talk to them in order to have all the time they could together.

And once there, Rey locked her door and pushed Ben down to be sitting on her bed as she leaned down to kiss him, finally sitting in his lap as he held her and they continued the kiss, deepening it with every passing moment.

“I could stay like this forever,” Ben murmured as they finally broke apart.

“So could I,” was the quiet response from Rey as she held his cheeks and kissed him again. They fell back onto the bed tangled together, and vowed to never let go.”

“Ben,” Rey said, a while later. They were both alive, revitalized, had been training together, had built their own lightsabers and had plans to return Luke and Leia’s to their home.

“Ben, I need to ask you something.”

He turned around, his dark hair framing his face like a halo, and nodded, eyes filled with curiosity and hope.

Rey carefully held out a hand towards him. “Will you take my hand?”

And without a word he reached forward and took it, pulling her close to kiss her.

“Always,” he whispered into her ear, and she hugged him tightly, burying her face in his neck as he ran his hand through her hair.
