You gotta read and watch some old books and films that aren’t 100% modern politically correct. I’m not saying you should agree with everything in them but you need to learn where genres came from to understand what those genres are doing today and where media deconstructing old tropes is coming from.
Also, more often than you might think, they’re not actually promoting bigotry so much as “didn’t consider all the implications of something” or just used words that were polite then but considered offensive now.

When we choose to avoid history because it's Problematic or Says Bad Things, we are choosing to divorce ourselves from understanding how we came from that time to this one, which makes it even more likely for the cycle to repeat, with no one but a few people with shelves of old books aware that it's happened before.
and this shit's important. Media from the past tells us how people from the past acted and thought and behaved.
Plus, a lot of these media pieces were socially acceptable and/or progressive for their time. For example, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, while it contains a lot of words and ideas that are offensive now, was very progressive for its time. The book is a statement piece for how a young man who's grown up in a racist environment, with no words to explain himself other than racist and bigoted ones, decides that the whole system is shit and he's not going to follow those rules any more. So not reading or engaging with it because it uses the n-word a lot really misses the point.

I hope it’s okay that I’m reaching out. My name is Rola, and I’m a mother of two from Gaza. Life used to be simple—filled with laughter, home-cooked meals, walks with my children, and ice cream on weekends. But since October, everything has changed.
We lost our home in a bombing. One moment, we were sipping coffee on the balcony… the next, the house shook, windows shattered, and our world collapsed. We had to flee with nothing—no clothes, no toys, no sense of safety.
My children still ask about their beds, their books, their quiet little room. I don’t have answers. All I can do is hold them and keep going.
We’re now raising funds to evacuate—or, if returning becomes possible, to rebuild. I just want to give my children a future that isn’t defined by fear and loss.

ahmed and his family live in a small tent, these tents are incredibly horrible to live in. as they can’t handle weather like rain, and a bunch of small creatures like bugs are able to get into their tent. and if their tent breaks, they’re also very expensive.
ghada needs food and health care, but because of the bombings. ahmed can’t get the proper care for her. so, they need funds to evacuate!

I only ate 6 dates for breakfast. Have you ever thought about what it is like to be agonizingly hungry and to fear death at every moment? Do you know that I have been injured for 300 days and have not been able to remove the metal shrapnel stuck in my body due to the closure of hospitals in Gaza? Also, do you know that my house is destroyed and I move every day from one tent to another due to the occupation’s warnings to bomb areas in Gaza? I am sorry that I spoiled your mood with this conversation. I just wanted to tell you what I feel and live here in Gaza in light of our neglect, lack of assistance, and the media’s silence about us and the famine we are living through and the massacres being committed against us.
