imagine escaping the city, coming off the pills. adjusting to blistering sun and dirt and the smell of ozone and hot asphalt. tasting your food, whether dog food in desperate times or meals made with zone-grown vegetables, imported meat saved up for months in advance or spun sugar candy from a zone fair stall. recipes worked on together, passed down, tweaked by tasting as you go. what magic it would be to learn the smell of perfume lingering in the air after someone has already left, the atmospheric smell of a storm on the horizon, the whiff of sulfur after a match is struck. that's what the killjoys are fighting for
