zeus actively keeping thalia ALIVE in the form of a pine tree wasn't an act of love or sympathy– he wanted a wild card in his back pocket for later. the other gods have shown how they feel about big three children simply in how they interact with percy, with most of them wanting him dead from the start as insurance. it's easy to assume they felt the same about thalia, but the whole tree thing earned him good dad points with demigods (thinking if they were in the same situation, their parents would save them too) while also quashing any potential pushback he was receiving about keeping her alive. it feels more in character for him to be gracious (in a roundabout, still fucked up way) about his own kid but not poseidon's because letting thalia die would make him look weak.

as if somehow paying the evil pro ai pro israel corporation (who assassinated the release in order to make the most amount of money with as little effort as possible) is the better option for everyone ??
