Here is my own design for the Class Catalogâs Resume/Biography Section. I am definitely for the option of having a photo (or self-portrait/avatar) be an option, since we didnât have that available to us for the Myriad. Which, given that I know how much work we all put into it, seemed such a shame.

My (hopefully) final spread for our Class Catalog. I still stuck with food, and used 2 rather contrasting image, where the main similarity is the round arrangement, and the color blue.

Here are some previous versions of my spread. Since I was definitely more focused on the cover (both front & back) given my position as 1 of 2 Lead Designers, I wasnât really able to give my spread much thought.Â
I did do a Light & Dark Galaxy watercolor thing, but it didnât feel like it was enough. So I turned to food, which I definitely felt much better about. However, it was totally different to the rest of the classâ work, most of which was 2 side by side photos, or 1 huge spread photo.

For the final back design in particular, we have decided to combine my original photo in the background and the hourglass colors inverted.

UPDATE : Tied in votes for the chosen cover for our classâ catalog this spring. Iâll need to work on my co-Lead Designer to mesh our ideas together. So far, my favorite part about my work is the title I came up with.

Playing around with the colors (removing the invert filter on one half, for example). Also trying to incorporate the type, although Iâm not really excited about just calling it âLight vs Darkâ as it seems to cliche.

Here are some of my photos that I inverted. I really liked the idea of turning photos into negatives, to stay away from a cliche black/white as a light vs dark sort of thing. I inverted a couple of my photos, and played around with showing it as it is, as well as seeing the original colors for contrast.
I ended up with 7 photos, with varying subjects and âcutoutsâ showing the original photos. However, my favorite out of all of it is actually the first photo, where I didnât even do anything to it all.Â
I just love how it turned out, both surreal and yet realistic enough, if that makes sense. I also like how the colors turned out - orange and blue, complementary colors.

For our class catalog, the class voted in majority for Light vs Dark (although I personally still vastly prefer âfavorite foodsâ).
In addition to B/W book covers, I also thought about negative images. As someone who grew up with film photos, I was always fascinated by the rolls of negative images and how that could turn into full-color photos. I feel more strongly inclined towards this line of thought than the other one, although itâs connection with a Light vs Dark theme might be a little on the tenuous side.

For our class catalog, the class voted in majority for Light vs Dark (although I personally still vastly prefer âfavorite foodsâ). Of course, this doesnât necessarily mean simply black and white. But given the saturation of colors and images in book covers nowadays (and recent projects), I thought it would be nice to go back to basics, so to speak. Besides, Iâve always preferred a nice interplay between positive and negative spaces to create impact.
Here, my first bit of research included black and white book covers. My personal criteria was that it canât simply be a graphic/image/type that got turned into B/W or grayscale and called it a day. It had to be something that works only (or best) because itâs black and white (or grayscale).
