Total Tour Funds Raised For Hospice Care:
$23,000
Stuart Berry raised $2,500 this weekend by riding his bike from Victoria to Saltspring Island and back, a 170-kilometre round trip.
We made it! It was an excellent, well organized ride (cheers Graham!) and a wonderful group of people to ride with. We'll be getting final fundraising numbers (I know it's over 20000 though!) and more pictures soon, so I'll be posting updates when I have them. A big thanks to all my sponsors!
Hmmm good idea or bad idea? I had some last minute part replacements done. My chain was getting pretty bad, so I had the chain and cassette replaced. I did the cables and housing while I was at it and had the brakes replaced. Plus I got new touring tires. Doing all this right before the tour may not have been wise, since the new gear is relatively untested (I did one test ride), but then again maybe it'll save me from roadside repairs. We'll just have to see!

Work Up Your Mix Out
I am always looking for variety in my training, and Bikram Yoga really fits the bill when training for just about anything, including cycling. It is really good for core strength, flexibility, and balance to keep you strong and loose in the saddle. Bikram classes also maintain a level of intensity that helps with endurance on longer rides. I've been getting my sweat on and it feels great!

I love spin classes. They're a great way to achieve a level of intensity that you cannot easily get on the road. I use spinning to complement my regular cycling regimen. And they're just great fun! I definitely recommend it!

Does hiking count as training for a bike tour? I hope so! I had a lovely hike this weekend up to Garibaldi Lake with my wife. It is a fair climb but well worth it once you get there. This is obviously a very popular route -- busy! -- and for good reason. I only wish I could pick up my Cycle of Life cycling jersey now (they're in; I just can't get over to the Island right now to get it), so that I could promote the cause while I'm out. Oh well.
