{{ ❈ ;; }}“ Fufu… fufufu… fuwahahaha!!! ”
A sinister laugh escaped the demon as he was simply incapable of containing his excitement. Halloween, huh? The best time of the year by far. Oh the infernal plans he could hatch. The evillest seasons of them all, an entire occasion dedicated to trickery and cheats. Oh how he loved this time of the year! And oh, did he not have the best costume for this Halloween? Of course he did. He was after all the most evil, most nefarious of demons with an Evil Quotient of 1.8 million, Overlord (Spawn) Mao!
Many eyes rested on the seemingly young boy with his apparent anticipation – or possibly because of the sudden outburst of laughter – and fixing his glasses, Mao let his attention shift to a gaze that lingered for just a bit too long.
{{ ❈ ;; }}“ Girl. You seem to be in doubt, so let me tell you: this genius here has thought of the scariest, most demonically possibly evil costume I have ever thought up! Oh yes, it’s so horrifying I can feel my hair stand on end… I am going to dress up as a hero! ”
Was this guy some sort of nut? Why was he standing in the middle of the street and laughing? She couldn’t keep her eyes off this weirdo. She’d never seen him around before, but he honestly looked like a gremlin (she had NO right to be calling him that) or some edgy video game character. Or both. Yeah, definitely both.
Others who’d been distracted by this guy eventually moved, but Takane couldn’t take her eyes off of him, and it turned out that was going to be her downfall. Takane jumped upon being called out, but really, despite this guy’s way of speaking, he wasn’t scary at all, so she relaxed immediately.
“Uh, no offense, but that’s pretty stupid. Like, cute idea and all, but you do realize that isn’t... scary. Not at all.”
T.W.T.W.
As he waited for an answer his eyes roamed the apartment of his partner, disgust soon reigning over his features. This place was filthy. How could someone even live here? Nothing seemed to be organized with clothes and empty bottles thrown all over the place. Did they partner him up with a slob? His lip curled.
Okay maybe it wasn’t as bad as he was making it sound, but he didn’t want to deal with this. He could’ve handled maybe one singular article of clothing here and there, maybe the odd piece of trash as well, but this was beyond irritating. Chances are he was going to have to stay here for a while because of what the guidebook had stated. Add did not want to temporarily live in a damn trash heap.
Shuffling from the other room brought him out of his daze and he turned to watch a small girl peek, retreat, and then come out only to yell at him. This was getting old already. A sigh. She certainly didn’t look strong, and from her behavior he could only guess that he was already going to have a bad time. Great. Basically everything he didn’t want he got.
“That’s not introducing yourself. And you listen to me,” he growled, maybe a little harsher than intended. The chair squeaked as it was moved back, boots knocking aside an empty can as he strolled over to her. If she wasn’t going to initiate the greeting then he would. “I’d rather be somewhere else but I’m stuck here with you for the moment.”
He stopped in front of Takane, Dynamo slowly dropping from it’s aggressive stance as he held out his hand. The other one made its way into his pocket. “If you don’t want to start I will. Name’s Add. I’m your new partner.”
His growl elicited a squeak from her, and Takane jumped almost a foot in the air. She tensed up and turned to stare at the floor, only hearing the chair squeak and making the call to not look at him. God. Would this guy not take a fucking hint? Does “get out” mean nothing to him? This was her apartment, her space, and he had no right to just barge in, even if her door was unlocked. It was an accident. Did he have no common decency? Well, he was Add, so no, he didn’t. But right now, that didn’t matter. Whatever he thought he was doing, it had to stop. Takane had just gritted her teeth, clenched her fist, and prepared to yell at him, when she looked back up...
...Only to see him right in front of her.
Of course, that ruined her somewhat-determined demeanor entirely, and Takane jumped back with a childlike shriek. Her eyes flicked up and down, actually bothering to take in the appearance of this Add more thoroughly. It wasn’t just his appearance that had changed, even his demeanor and the way he stood changed. It didn’t make much of a difference, as Takane was still visibly shaking, but it kept her from turning and bolting on the spot.
“...Y..you can’t be. If you’re Add, you’d know me already. Add...” Takane paused to force back the memories. Not now. Not now. “...You’d know if you were. It.. There’s no way... W-who are you, really?”
“Why thank you. Nice to know my tastes aren’t too stale for a few occasions here and there.” Though she’d never care for anyone’ opinion in the first place, blending in had been something she’s had to pay attention to to fool certain watchful eyes.
“Ehh, I’ve broken my ribs for a few good jokes, but seeing how I’ll be stuck with this lot of people for a supposed eternity, I’d rather be on his good side. At least you’ve got the guts to come here after that fiasco. Kudos to you.” Swiping a drink for a server, she raised in a joking toast. “To the entertainment you provide, although maybe next time there’ll be a little less violence, hmm?”
“Honestly, I don’t care for parties. At all. But a certain someone wanted me to attend, and I guess I just couldn’t say no, so here I am. But thanks anyways. I’m a little scared of him spotting me, but if he does, let’s just hope for the best and hope I’ll be ignored,” Takane did the same as A, taking a drink (although a bit less smoothly.) And raising it for the toast. As the glasses tapped together, Takane laughed nervously.
“A little less violence? With Add? You’re joking, right? Basically every interaction I’ve had with him ended... badly for me,” she paused. “Bet I couldn’t even say ‘hi’ without making his skin crawl. Unfortunately, I don’t think I’ll be doing anything else to provoke him for... a while yet. I don’t feel like dying again anytime soon. Sorry to disappoint.”

『✿』 “hm! I just arrived, though.” Mary squinted, trying very hard not to let the days blend and mix up, but it’s hard when you’re somewhere where time does not matter. “About… Two weeks, I think? If I knew you were here… I would’ve looked for you sooner!”
“so far, I have met people that were nothing but kind to me, thankfully! how long have you been here? ah! did you meet with other’s from the dan?” inquired Mary with a cheerful tone.
“Just arrived? Explains why I hadn’t seen you around here sooner... Two weeks? Eh. It’s alright. I’ve been doing okay without you. Glad you finally decided to show your face, though.”
“Nothing but kind to you? Thank god. There are some pretty.. er... nasty people here, so be careful, yeah?” Upon getting asked the question, Takane had to pause for a moment. How long had she been here? It felt like ages, but she could at least take a guess. “Five months, I think. Hard to keep track of,” she paused at seeing others from the Dan. “...well, I saw Haruka, but he hasn’t been around lately. I haven’t seen him in a long time, actually...”
‘Hmm, that’s true. At least I’m not arrested for not picking a dress.” When asked how she was faring, a mischievous smile quirked upon her lips. The past hours of dragging Add around came to mind, each time with her succeeding o have him to something outside of his comfort zone. He hasn’t killed her yet, ( miraculously, she’s think ) so perhaps it was a sign he was still enjoying himself. Just very begrudgingly.
“Having a killer time. You know, I’d never thought threatening to push Add over the pool’s edge would work, yet here we are….”
“Pfft. You look great. Just ignore anyone who whines.”
Although, A’s next statement provoked a laugh out of Takane. Imagining the scene was pleasant, but ah, it’d probably never happen. As funny as it’d be to see that guy in his stupid fancy suit, absolutely drenched, she wasn’t going to get her hopes up. She might’ve tried before, but she certainly wasn’t going to again.
“Something I would’ve liked to see. Well, whatever. I don’t care what you do with him, as long as he doesn’t see me here. If you humiliate him, I’ll be thankful, though. Keep that in mind, yeah? He’s fun to pick on if you don’t end up getting your ribs broken. Actually, sometimes even if you get your ribs broken. Might be worth it.”
T.W.T.W.
Upon the initial callout he wasn’t entirely sure if he even had the right place. In fact, he knew next to nothing about his so-called partner. The most he was told was that her name was Takane, but no other details were mentioned. All he was following was the strange pull of their souls being bound together, as per stated in the guidebook, so Add wasn’t really expecting much.
That didn’t mean he was expecting the shriek from the other room. Once the initial shock wore off he placed his little welcoming bag on a nearby table with a sigh. “Keh… What a warm welcome. I feel like I’m home already.” He took another glance around the apartment. “Look, I have things I’d much rather be doing, but I’m stuck here for the moment so loosen up a little.”
Now that he wasn’t being ushered along by the soul binding he could only wonder what kind of girl she was. Sure it was a little rude to go snooping around in the apartment, so he just took a moment to think. Whoever ran this place, the afterlife, certainly they wouldn’t pair him up with someone that’d be nothing but a burden, right? He didn’t want to deal with weaklings, he didn’t particularly want to deal with children either, and he especially didn’t want to deal with someone who would hinder his work.
He sat down next to the table and started drumming his fingers next to the welcoming bag. The noise sang of poorly veiled irritation. “So are you going to come out here and formally introduce yourself, or do I have to come find you in your own place, Takane?”
It didn’t take a genius to figure out that just by his voice, and the fact that he hadn’t gone straight to tear her to shreds that this wasn’t quite the same Add she knew. But really, that didn’t matter. It was too soon. His voice brought back the maniacal laughter she heard, the horror, the pain. She didn’t want this. No way could this be her situation. This had to be a mistake.
“Loosen up a little?” Was he joking? Loosen up, when she’d been murdered by him (as far as she knew, him, at least)? He had to be joking. Sick joke. Ridiculous. She wanted to puke. But it looked like she didn’t have much choice. Either she was going to get up and go find him, or he was going to come and find her. And she’d had quite enough of being hunted down.
Forcing down the sick feeling, Takane stood up, her entire body trembling, but she wasn’t going to bother to stop that. She knew for a fact she couldn’t, no matter how hard she tried. Slowly, cautiously, Takane made her way to the room where he waited, peeking around the corner to see him.
He certainly looked different. Different hairstyle, different build, different atmosphere, even, but the face was the same, except he didn’t have those weird eyes. She hid back behind the corner, failing to steady her breathing. Now or never, Takane. Get him out of here before something bad happens.
“J...Just get out! Listen to me! This isn’t your goddamn apartment, so get out, okay..?!” As soon as she exposed herself, she had to yell in a poor attempt to hide the fact that she was absolutely terrified. The sooner this guy left her alone, the better.

『✿』 “Hehe, gotcha!” exclaimed Mary once her friend finally turned around. She can’t really put it in to words how she’s feeling right now, maybe relieved? It’s reassuring to see a familiar face, and Mary didn’t bother with offering a proper apology. “I-I’m so happy to see you!” chirped the shorter girl.
“Mary..!!” Takane couldn’t hide her relief at the familiar face. Haruka was here too, and of course, she couldn’t have been happier to see anyone else, but Mary was always a nice face to see. Sweet girl. Probably deserved way better than to get stuck in this hell, though.
“I’m happy to see you too. It’s always nice to see a familiar face in this weird place. Has the afterlife treated you well?” ...she wanted to question further on why she’d been the target of bread, but that could wait.

The first bread, she caught. Even though it came at her faster than most other breads she’d gotten today, she got it.
“HA! Suck it, nerd!” If she’d known who’d thrown it, she probably wouldn’t have said that, but y’know. That unbearable attitude of hers faded away quickly as lots more bread came out of nowhere. The nonstop pelting was irritating, and it even hurt a little twig like her quite a bit… Not enough to seriously injure her, but you know.
With that said, there was way too much bread. In less than a minute, Takane was drowned, buried alive in loaves of whole-wheat bread. Rest in piece, you little shit.

A fourth loaf of bread hit her in the side, but Takane was able to catch it when it bounced off her before it hit the ground.
“Hey, watch it! Don’t throw bread at me!” She spat, before turning to see who the person who’d thrown the bread (at least it was only one loaf this time) was, and found herself shocked to see one of her friends that she’d known before she entered this hell place.
“Mary?! You’re here?! And… and why are you throwing bread at me?!”
🍞🍞🍞
Takane yelped as a loaf of bread smacked into her face. Although, it didn’t hurt that bad. It was just bread. She’d been through worse. And she deserved it, for tossing an entire twenty loaves at him before.
“Alright, good job. You got me bac—” But before she finished laughing it off, a WHOLE SECOND BREAD hit her in the chest, and one in her face again. More because she was startled than from the actual impact, Takane stumbled backwards.
“Don’t throw my bread back at me! It was just a donation to your bread fund! Go throw it at that asshole esper or something!”
“So, like... how long until we run out of bread to throw at each other and we have to start stealing Add’s other people’s bread?”
That wasn’t what she was trying to accomplish. Oh no. She didn't want Add to be the overlord of anything. Even something as stupid as bread.

Dead.
Alright sure, let’s say he was dead. Let’s say there was no way of returning back to Elrios. Let’s say something just fucking killed him off and he had no idea what could’ve done it. Angry was the understatement of the year, and as Add made his way up the winding staircase to wherever the hell this force was taking him, he couldn’t help but crush part of the railing under his glove. Dynamo was bristling behind him, feeding off the frustration he felt. It didn’t help his already intimidating appearance.
He couldn’t believe it. He just needed to get to the room, meet his partner, and then start researching on this new world. Probably drag whoever he was now bound to around as well - he wasn’t going to let someone keep him from doing what he wanted. Not here. Not when he had too much to do.
Tch. The biting failure of actually dying weighed down on him. What happened with the El Search Party? Did they die too? Had their world been thrown into disarray with him being the only casualty? Or maybe they had all died and he’d been the first one to arrive. Crushing the railing once more he shoved away from it, the pull leading him to a nearby room. He could think about it later. Right now he had to meet his so-called “partner”.
He grabbed at the doorknob, giving it a jiggle and, much to his surprise, watched it turn and open slightly. Strange. Who doesn’t lock their door, especially in such a large place like this? Maybe it was a moment of forgetfulness? It was an open invitation regardless and he wasted no time in swinging it open. Not even past the door frame he called out, pink eyes searching the immediate area for any signs of life. “Hey, is anyone around? I’m assuming whoever lives here is my partner since I was led to this place.”
It was one of those days. Although, it shouldn’t be said as if they were infrequent right now. Almost every other day, if not more, Takane would find herself in her room at some point, the lights off, lying in bed and crying like a helpless child. It was pathetic, really, but every single time she closed her eyes those horrid images flashed behind them, coming back and reminding her of her weakness, of the disgusting way she fell due to nothing more than a shitty prank on her part that set off the wrong asshole’s uncontrollable temper.
One of those days couldn’t have been a worse day to introduce Takane to her new partner. When she’d been informed that she was being partnered up with Add, she absolutely lost it. No way, right? There’s no way anyone would be dumb enough to partner her up with that guy. No way. It would cause problems for her, for him, for everyone around them... right? And since then, since she’d stupidly declared that to try (and fail) to rid herself of the pit in her stomach, she’d lived in denial.
Takane jumped as the door creaked open, sitting up like she’d heard a gunshot. Had she really been so stupid as to leave the door unlocked? Shit. She’d gotten back to her apartment in such a rush that it was definitely possible she’d made that mistake. God knows it was probably no big deal, but she couldn’t help shifting into panic mode as soon as she heard the noise.
And of course, the all-too-familiar voice that followed didn’t do anything to calm her down.
It wasn’t the kind of tone she would have expected from the Add she knew, but really, the simple sound of his voice sent a jolt through her body, no matter the tone. It sounded like he didn’t know her. But she didn’t care. She wasn't going to take her chance and look in his direction to see that it wasn't the same person who'd...
“...G...get out! This place isn’t yours! Leave me alone..!”
He laughs in an almost oblivious fashion! Hahaha! “ But soup and cereal are so bland. Wouldn’t you like to look on something beautiful–like me? ”
“NO. No, we don’t! You’re not even that pretty, so please stop laughing! Cereal is a much better topic than weird stripping boys!”
