Joaquin gestures to the seat in front of him as a way to say that he doesn’t mind if she takes the spot. “I assume you won’t be staying here too long then?” Joaquin hadn’t planned to stay long either, but he was called to take care of some business.

The seat is taken almost immediately, head lulling back slightly, a breath released at the familiarity of it all. Knowing him, he could probably tell she was on edge, but this was the most relaxed she’d been in months. 

His question caused her to raise a brow, leaning her elbows on the table with a twitch of a smile coming to her features. “—Are you?”

“You’ve always been that way, don’t know what would change your mind now.” Which is why Joaquin didn’t mention that he was dating Kevin. Hands rest on his knees. Breath inhaled.

“Didn’t see you at the drive in last week.” A subtle way of bringing up Kevin? Perhaps. He’s sure that Karter would find out sooner or later and he’s not exactly sure how the other would react. “Had better things to do I’m guessing?”

“Y’could say that.”

HE’S still not entirely sure why he’s even bothering going anywhere near the NORTH SIDE, but it seemed he and Toni were out of options ( just like the rest of the serpents ). Brows tighten to his forehead for a moment before he leans back idly, JACKET still resting comfortably on his form when he does.

“I heard YOU were gettin’ real frisky though. Naughty naughty eh?”

Rumors spread like wild fire. I won’t tell if you don’t. So much for that promise being kept. Joaquin makes a face akin to disgust and lets out a sigh. “Not exactly.”

There’s an odd sense of familiarity in Jughead. Even silence feels– comfortable, even if that silence is because the other is shoving fries into his mouth. Joaquin takes a sip of his milkshake and relaxes. “How have you been?”

Small talk. Although he hates it and often distrusts it, he knows it’s not meant that way with the older boy across the table from him. His dad had always trusted him, and for once, that’s enough for Jughead. “Peachy keen.” An ironic twist of a smile, having swallowed a decent mouthful. “You missed Riverdale so bad you just had to come back, huh?”
