saihara  recalls  the  day  so  clearly .   memories  of  violet  eyes   &   the  shock  of  a  first  meeting .   a  bitter  concoction  of  bewilderment   &   curiosity .   saihara  remembers  their  first  encounter ,   their  third ,   their  tenth .   &   he  saw  ouma ,  then .   he  sees  him ,   now .  

just  ...  differently  this  time ,   perhaps .  

saihara  laughs  when  ouma  gently  bonks  his  head  with  a  curled  fist       a  soft ,  breathy  noise  that  shakes  his  shoulders   &   makes  a  warm  smile  break  across  his  pale  visage .   it’s  been  like  this  for  a  while  now ,   admittedly ,   that  saihara’s  attention  has  been  less  focused  on  the  papers  in  front  of  him   &   rather  to  the  nagging  presence  on  his  left .   he  stopped  paying  attention  long  ago ,   instead  hoping  to  nurture  this  fresh  bruise  upon  his  heart .

‘   they  aren’t  wishy - washy ... !   you  could  really  stand  to  read  a  few  of  them ,   you  know .   ’   he  gives  another  gentle  laugh ,   swatting  the  hand  away  from  himself .   he  doesn’t  say  it  aloud ,   but  he  thinks  he  disagrees :   there  is  honesty  to  be  found  here .   calm  only  rarely  settles  itself  in  these  moments ,   in  the  quiet  spaces  between  them ,   &   it  allows  for  a  level  of  comfort  /  of  intimacy  that  wasn’t  there  before .
