in the series finale when the manager asks to speak to Arthur alone and John agrees to getting sent away, do you think when the manager resumes his conversation with Arthur, Johnās kinda confused but isnāt sure if he should draw attention to himself so he makes a subtle hand movement, like maybe raised it slightly or spread his fingers out, just something to try and say to Arthur āhey Iām still here?ā so Arthur just reassures him by casually holding Johnās wrist to tell him āi knowā

John should be allowed to be a little evil, for good
My favorite thing about the Witch episode is the whole John embracing both sides of himself, he can't be only good and doesn't have to be only bad and all that stuff. I especially liked how we got to see this at the end with how the Witch was defeated cuz lbr, John isn't much of a threat by himself or even in general. If Arthur is dead or otherwise knocked out, John's just a disembodied voice that only a few select people outside of Arthur can even hear.
So for him to be able to defeat the Witch in the only way he can was a really cool feat for him. Even as the King in Yellow, I think he preferred mind games and manipulation before resorting to violence and the way he manipulated the Witch into offing herself with the gun by seeing that he can take advantage of her hubris/ignorance and lie to her about what it does shows that he can still be a threat in his own way
And I want to see more of this. Arthur is the one with any agency, it's his actions and (mostly) his choices that push the plot, John's mostly just there to provide the scenery and maybe drop some lore insight here and there and because of this I think he can sometimes feel more like a narrative device than an actual character. Obviously he's had his own character growth and arc, but idk, for the most part there's not much he can actually do besides provide description, be introspective, or just be there as a sounding board for Arthur as he works things through.
The Deal episode kinda showcased how I think John can take on a more active role when Arthur was trying to distract the Butcher away from Daniel. Arthur was just throwing things at the wall hoping something stuck while John kinda coached him on what to say to really get under his skin. I like when John is shown that he can be really insightful on these kinds of things, just able to clock people's insecurities or fears and weaknesses, knowing which buttons to press to get them to behave or act in a certain way that benefits him/them

I have a theory that the king in yellow became more violent and callous after being fractured and having a piece of himself trapped in the dark world
I wonder if he could feel that part of himself, all the anguish and torment that being in the dark world brought it
Or if just being forcibly ripped into pieces drove him a little mad himself. He wouldāve done anything and gone through anyone to be whole again
In threshold we find out that the king had spent āeons on earth trying to make sense of your myths and storiesā just observing and studying the creatures inhabiting it
And that just doesnāt sound like the king in yellow we meet in s2. donāt get me wrong, i think he was always more than capable and willing to torment and torture people, but just in cases where it benefited him or helped him achieve his goals. I donāt think he found any kind of sadistic pleasure in it, it was just a means to an end for him. But for the most part he more curious than outright malevolent
Heād still gladly drive a person to claw out their own face if they pissed him off somehow tho
Started this the night āThe Parting Glassā came out. I think we all had a lot of feelings about that ending (I cried, then bawled, then listened to the whole thing again cuz im a masochist).
I put this piece aside for a while because there were things I just couldnāt resolve (like the background). Iām glad I finally finished it. I think it might be one of my favorites.
I feel like sometime after s2 or 3 John realized just how fucked up his and arthurās situation is and heās trying to come terms with it, how much heās taken from Arthur and all the terrible things heās done both as the king in yellow and just as himself, and for the most part Arthur is just like āyeah Iāve made my peace with itā
I personally like the idea that Arthur still holds some anger deep down inside for what John has done. Like buried so deep that not even Arthur knows about it. Because he never got the time to properly process it.
(HUGE spoilers for all of Malevolent up to Threshold (S7) below) (sorry) (ignore the rest if you ain't there yet lol)
Like sure, Arthur has "made peace" with it, but that is in large part because getting over it was essential for their survival because how much Kayne and the KiY used their relationship against them. It was either forgiveness or death. Same thing with the bone cathedral in season 6. They had much more pressing matters than Arthur's feelings about the past.
But now with Threshold, that anger is re-emerging because he never proper addressed his emotions and the grief from John's actions. Arthur lost everything because of John and he never got the time to grieve. Not even the death of his partner. Now that Arthur finally found some peace in the storm, he has the time to actually face the pain of his past and those difficult emotions.
I kinda wonder if a part of arthur regrets his decision to stay the course when the manager offered him his dream life where his entire family is still alive and happy, but he chose John over all that
Like, he just wants faroe to be happy, and she was already happy in that universe. But now he has faroe again anyway, and heās too scared to get too close to her, how could he if he has this god fragment that he canāt tell anyone about in his head

Well, malevolent is drawing to a close and it's been an amazing adventure and journey. I am so incredibly grateful of the opportunity I have been given to have my art featured on such an amazing show.
Who knows what art adventures will come next but I am absolutely certain I will miss these two.
